General photographs at the first Fethard Festival Family Fun Day held at Fethard Town Park on Sunday, June 12, 2022.

Fethard Festival Family Fun Day on, Sunday, June 12, was a great success with thousands turning up for the first Festival held at the spacious Fethard Town Park. The large attendance was a great test for parking facilities and access to the town park, while Stage 2 works are still in progress. The whole operation was very well organised and was blessed with good weather, if a little windy at times.

People came from far and near and were treated to a wonderful family experience with lots of events, stalls, games, music, and entertainment for all ages. The free entertainment and amusements were all supplied courtesy of the Magnier family at Coolmore, who are also the main sponsors of the Fethard Town Park Development, assisted by Tipperary County Council and Tipperary Development Company.

Corpus Christi Procession to the Abbey Grounds in 1953

On this Sunday, June 19, we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi with a special mass at 11am in the parish church and A Eucharistic Procession from Holy Trinity Parish Church to the Augustinian Abbey at 7pm.

The mass will be in thanksgiven for those who helped us through the last two and a half years of the Covid Pandemic, and remembrance of those we lost in that time. The feast of Corpus Christi is a celebration of Christ’s real presence in the Eucharist. When the Eucharist is carried through the streets in solemn procession, we give public witness of our faith and devotion toward the sacrament of the Eucharist.

A Waterford Family have won the Fethard Town Park raffle prize of a €10,000 Holiday of a Lifetime. Nicola Caulfield was announced as the winner of the fundraising raffle at a live draw in Fethard Town Park on Sunday 12th June. The draw was also streamed live on the Fethard Town Park Facebook page.

Fethard Town Park sold 2,000 tickets with entries from every county in Ireland. After seeing a Rachael Blackmore video supporting the raffle, Nicola purchased a ticket online and couldn’t believe her luck when she was notified as being the winner. Nicola and her husband Michael are planning a trip to Disneyworld with their 2 young boys.
Speaking with the prize winners in Fethard Town Park on Wednesday night, Director of Fethard Town Park, Maurice Moloney said, "This has been a fantastic fundraiser for us with all profits going towards the ongoing development of Fethard Town Park, community, sport and recreational facility. We are delighted to see the prize won by a young family and we wish them every best wishes on their travels."

The raffle prize was generously sponsored by two local companies, Ribworld and Gleeson Quarries. Director of Fethard Town Park, Anthony Fitzgerald said, "Both companies have been great supporters of Fethard Town Park since the start and we are extremely appreciative of their partnership on this fundraiser."

Phase 1 of Fethard Town Park has been operational since January 2022 and includes a full size 4G and Grass Rugby/GAA pitch, training pitch, outdoor exercise equipment, walkways, and significant public realm. The construction of a community pavilion, dressing rooms, gym and café at Fethard Town Park commenced earlier this year and is due for completion in early 2023.

Lester Piggott Month's Memorial Service at the Augustinian Abbey on Sunday, June 26
Lester Piggott 1935-2022

Sunday, June 26, is exactly a month to the day since the death of the legendary jockey Lester Pigott. While Lester is an iconic figure throughout the horse racing world, his name resonates in a special way here in Fethard. While the 'Sport of Kings' features prominently across the globe, it is no exaggeration to say that Tipperary, and especially Fethard, could be described as the 'Mecca' of the equine industry.

All will be familiar with the extraordinary role played by Lester Piggott in his beloved sport and Fethard folks can be so proud that he had such a prominent involvement in their locality. Accordingly some of his local admirers and fans have asked that some simple ceremony be organised here in his memory. This will take place at the Augustinian Abbey here in Fethard on Sunday June 26, at 9.30 am. It may be viewed online on Augustinian Abbey live stream.

Then it’s on to Nano Nagle’s birthplace in Ballygriffin outside Mallow where we will have a light lunch followed by a Heritage and Organic Garden tour. It will begin with a visit to the heritage room with a guided introduction to the Nano Nagle story followed by a guided walk around the grounds and the environmental features of the gardens. Once again, there should be time to explore at leisure after the guided tour.
