Anyone interested are asked to please come along and also bring a friend. Fethard U14 hurlers beaten by narrowest of margins

Fethard U14 hurling team who were beaten by Wicklow county champions, Carnew Emmets, in the Féile na nGael Division 10 final at Fraher Field, Dungarvan.
The agony and the ecstasy of sport was there for all to see at Fraher Field, Dungarvan, on Sunday morning June 19, when the Fethard U14 Feile hurling team playing in the Division 10 final against Wicklow county champions, Carnew Emmets. Just coming up short by the narrowest of margins in an exciting game of hurling.
Playing in wet and windy conditions it was a game that ebbed and flowed. Having been five points up into the second half and then going a point down with seven minutes remaining, a few minutes of stalemate was then broken when Ryan Walsh thundered the sliotar to the net from a 25 meter free with two minutes remaining. The dream was very much alive but was short lived when the Carnew Emmets captain struck again to get his second goal and ultimately the winning score to send the Fethard players, mentors and supporters from unmitigated joy to plunging into the depths of despair. The final whistle sounded soon after and try as they did it was not to be our day. Beidh lá eile.
The panel of 16 was as follows: Conor Neville, Ciaran Moroney, Jack Quinlan, Shane Neville, Robert Wall, Cathal O’Mahony, Robert Hackett, Ryan Walsh (captain), Darragh Hurley, Micheál Quinlan, Nevan Healy, Sean Moroney, Cathal Ryan, Keenan Ahearne, Kieran O’Donnell and Toby Collier. Management team: Mick O’Mahony, Michael Moroney, John Hurley and Eugene Walsh.

Fethard Playwright at Junction Festival
Paul Maher from Coolmoyne Cross will stage two one-act comedies at this year’s Clonmel Junction Festival with his own company, ‘Dreamtime Theatre’.
In the romantic comedy, ‘The Man from Clerihan’, we meet a strong farmer who calls on a young widow seeking money owing. But as the drama unfolds with the music of Joe Dolan and some seriously dangerous muffins. Is it possible that a romantic trashy novel could yet save the day?
The second play, ‘Angel Dust and Dallas’, is a case of John B Keane meets Fr Ted in an outlandish comedy where the sacristan and the priest’s housekeeper are gone to the bad from watching that auld Dallas on the telly and taking angel dust for the HRT so that when a new young priest arrives in the parish he has, to say the least, a lot to contend with.
The two plays will run in the White Memorial Theatre on Saturday, July 9, at 4pm and 9pm. Tickets are €10 for matinee and €15 evening show and can be booked from the Box Office, Tel: (052) 6129339. Further info on Facebook at Dreamtime Theatre.

South Tipperary Disability Groups Forum
If you fancy having a bit of fun and an outdoor sandwich or snack instead of the usual lunch-hour sitting indoors – this year’s ‘Picnic in the Park’ might be the answer! South Tipperary Disability Groups’s ‘Lunch ’n’ Roll’ event at the Beautiful Sensory Garden in Cahir on Thursday, July 7, from 12.30pm to 2pm, will be a very special occasion. The aim is to celebrate summer in the outdoors (weather permitting) as we have done for the last number of years, but this year we also aim to focus on a 1916 commemoration theme. Stephan Grace and Friends will entertain us with traditional music and songs to celebrate 1916. Please put the date in your diary and remember to bring along your lunch snacks and sandwiches.

75 years, time for a reunion?

A lot of encouraging verbal interest has been expressed in the proposed St. Patrick’s Place Reunion to be held later in the year. The following message was received from Mary Morrissey (London),
“Absolutely excited at the prospect of St. Patrick’s Place gathering. I often visit each house in my minds eye of the families that were living there as we grew up. Please keep me up to date and I hope very much that it goes ahead.”
The next stage involved is setting up a steering committee to plan the event and which would involve gathering available information, photographs and stories for display and inclusion in a printed booklet commemorating the reunion. A similar event was held in 2012 for The Green and Barrack Street, which proved very successful for a large attendance of over 400, many of who moved from The Green to St. Patrick’s Place when the houses were built in 1941.
If you are interested in getting involved in any way please email: reunion@fethard.com or give your name to Joe Kenny, Rocklow Road, or contact the Community Office, Barrack Street, Tel: (052) 6131000, and leave your mobile number so we can text you with further details if we have sufficient interest.
