Special Mass for Peace in Ukraine on Monday at 7pm
Fethard Parish invite all to participate in a Special Mass in the Augustinian Abbey, Fethard, at 7pm on this coming Monday evening, February 28, to pray for Peace in Ukraine and show solidarity with the people under attack from invading forces.

Please Attention, Alla's Patisserie is collecting aid for Ukraine! They need the following things: briefs, high warm socks , disposable utensils, thermal underwear, fleece jumpers, bandages (for food ask for cereals, rice, pasta), tea. Tourniquets are also required to stop bleeding!

Family run business 'Away with Nature'
Away with Nature is a family run business based in Drangan. They handcraft natural skincare, home fragrance and stock a selection of products from Irish producers. Fiona of Away with Nature is the daughter of Joan O’Donohoe who you all will know from her 20 years in the Tirry Community Centre.

GAA Sports Development Lotto
Fethard GAA Sports Lotto draw results for Friday, February 25, are as follows: the numbers drawn were: 21, 30, 31 and 33. There was no jackpot winner and two Match Three winners who received €75 each: Christopher Quinn (online ticket) and Andrew Heffernan (online ticket). Two Lucky Dip winners received €50 each: Mary Murphy Coolmore, Fethard; and L. M. Thurles. Please Note the Lotto Draw will change from Friday Nights to Tuesday Nights from March 1, 2022.

The committee of Fethard GAA Sports Centre Development Lotto would like to thank all our supporters near and far who participate in our weekly lotto draw. The next draw takes place on Friday, March 4, when the jackpot is €30,000 and the seller's prize is €1,000. The funds raised are used to promote sport in the local community.

Died Recently
The death has occurred on Thursday, February 24, 2022, of Joseph (Joe) Duggan, Rink Place, Clonmel, and formerly Cloran, Cloneen, peacefully, in the loving care of St. Teresa's Nursing Home, Cashel. Sadly missed by his loving family, relatives and friends. May Joe Rest in Peace.

Reposing at O'Donoghue's Funeral Home on Sunday morning, February 27, from 10.30am to 12 noon with removal to S.S.Peter and Paul's Church for Funeral Mass at 12.30pm which can be viewed on www.churchservices.tv/clonmelpeterpaul followed by burial in the old cemetery, Cloneen.

Fethard Town Park – Regional Centre of Excellence

Munster Rugby and Fethard Town Park were delighted to announce on Friday, February 18, a new exciting partnership which sees the establishment of Fethard as a Regional Centre of Excellence for Munster Rugby. Munster Rugby and Fethard Town Park are delighted to announce a new exciting partnership which sees the establishment of a Regional Centre of Excellence for Munster Rugby. This partnership will see Munster Rugby’s underage and development squads have access to state-of-the-art facilities including a full-size 3G floodlit pitch

Speaking at the launch, Maurice Moloney, Director, Fethard Town Park, said: “I am delighted Munster Rugby have come on board using this magnificent new facility as their Centre of Excellence; their involvement will be of tremendous benefit in developing rugby from grassroots to high-performance level.”

Speaking at the launch in Fethard Town Park on Monday night, Tipperary GAA County Board Secretary Tim Floyd said, “Fethard Town Park is the gold standard of GAA Pitches, we are delighted to have it as a centre of excellence for our inter county GAA players and wish Fethard Town Park Committee continued success in their ongoing development.”

Director of Fethard Town Park and Head of Economic Development at Tipperary County Council, Anthony Fitzgerald acknowledged the huge investment by the local community in developing the 3G Pitch and community facilities – the result of years of perseverance and dedication from the local community group and significant investment from Coolmore and the Magnier Family. We are delighted to see the facilities open to the public and welcome many happy days ahead watching Tipperary GAA. It’s an exciting time for Fethard and the county.

The construction of a community pavilion, dressing rooms, gym and café is due to commence in the coming weeks with completion by the end of the year. Phase 2 of Fethard Town Park is funded by The Rural Regeneration Development Fund with the support of Tipperary County Council who successfully led the application to the Department of Rural and Community Development.

"Land Commission to Purchase Killerk Estate" – Deputy Davern

Proceedings at a land settlement meeting, held at Killerk Creamery, Fethard, on Sunday, December 4, 1955, were cut short by an announcement from Mr M.J. Davern, T.D. who was present, that the Land Commission had decided to purchase the 237-acre Slattery Estate at Killerk. The announcement was received with acclamation.

The meeting, at which there was a large attendance, was called by a local committee of which Mr L. Dargan, Red City, was chairman and Mr A. Fox, Killerk, secretary.

Mr P.J. Coffey B.E., Fethard, who acted as chairman at the meeting, said he understood, that if the land were divided, there would be no hardship to any of the successors in title to the Estate. There were a lot of landless men around the district, and this was a piece of land which could easily be divided. All the TDs and Senators of the county had been invited to the meeting, but there was a bye-election in Limerick and all available speakers from both parties were being rushed there. They were fortunate, however, in having Deputy Davern with them, who was always ready to help his own in preference to people in outside counties.

Mr J. Ahessy, MCC, said he understood the proceedings would not last long, because “The kettle is boiling and everything is over.” Deputy Davern was going to make a statement which would show them that everything was all right. He was proud to see such a fine crowd of people coming together to help each other in this case.

Mr T O'Neill expressed the hope that, if the Land Commission purchased the Estate and divided it, the interests of the local people would be met first. He said that in other districts land had been divided and not one man locally got any of it, because people had been brought in from other areas. He didn't begrudge any man land, but he would like that the local smallholders and landless men would be met first.
