Fethard Ladies Football
Hard luck to our under-16 girls who were beaten in the county final by Upperchurch, on a scoreline of 1-05 to 0-04, last Saturday in Boherlahan. But for hitting the post on more than three occasions the result may have been different. The girls must be praised for their brave effort and commitment. Thanks to Tom McCarthy and Kieran Butler for their work with the girls since March and to Tommy Sheehan and Chris Sheehan for their help with training.
The junior ladies have carried their form from last year to 2010 and have reached the junior league final against Gortnahoe which take place on this Tuesday 17th May. Best of luck to all involved.
Our under-12s are currently competing in the championship having reached the second phase of the competition. They are playing very well considering they are all under-12 again next year.
All outstanding membership fees need to be paid immediately as registration is almost complete.
Youth Centre Official Opening
Cllr. Liam Ahearn, Chairman South Tipperary County Council, will officially open Fethard Youth Centre on Friday 4th June at 7.30pm. All are invited to come along. Further details next week.
Fethard Rugby Club AGM
Fethard Rugby Club’s deferred AGM will now be held on this Thursday night 20th May at 8pm in the Abymill Theatre Fethard.
Golf Classic for Community Field Development
The new community field ‘Club House’ is nearing completion and funds are required to meet the payment schedules. The committee are holding a four-ball scramble in Callan Golf Club on Saturday 3rd July. Team of four costs €200 inclusive of a three course meal and fabulous prizes, such as: 4 Star Golfing Holiday in Costa Del Sol. Tees and Greens can be sponsored for €50. Fethard and Killusty Community Games will hold their area sports in the GAA Park on Tuesday 25th May at 5.30pm. Entry fee is €2. Programme of events as follows: boys and girls u-8 60m and 80m; u-10 100m and 200m; u-12 100m and 600m; u-14 100m and 800m, u-16 100m and 1500m. First and second placed in all of these activities will qualify for the county athletics finals which will take place in Templemore on Sunday 27th June. Competitors must live in the parish and be under the age specified on the 31st July 2010. We will also have a special non-qualifying race for tots u-4 and u-6. It is very important that we start this event on time as the field has to be vacated by 7pm. We are very grateful to the GAA for the use of their facility.
Augustinian Abbey Triduum
The Triduum in preparation for the feast of St. Rita of Cascia, which began on Wednesday 19th May, will continue on this Friday 21st May at 7.30pm with the anointing of the sick and on Saturday 22nd May with prayer for students preparing for exams. Invited preacher is Father Tony Egan OSA.
Fethard & Killusty Community Lotto
The numbers drawn on 12th May were: 6, 17, 19 and 32. We had no Jackpot winner and no ‘Match 3’ winner so the following drawn tickets won €50: P.J. Lonergan, The Square, Fethard; Monica Aherne, Prospect, Fethard; and Mary Myler, St. Patricks Place, Fethard.
The three following Lucky Dip winners received €50 each: Kenneth Byrne (purchased online); Breda Burke, Main Street, Fethard; and Michael Leahy, Cedar Grove, Strylea.
Next week’s Jackpot continues at €10,000 and the Jackpot sellers prize is €1000.
Maggie celebrates 90th birthday

Coursing Club AGM
The annual general meeting of Fethard & District Coursing Club will take place on Tuesday 25th May at 8pm in Fethard Ballroom.
Tony Sheehan Fund AGM
The Tony Sheehan Fund was established in memory of Tony Sheehan who died some years ago to help people in the Fethard area who suffer financial problems because of serious illness.
In the past two years the Fund/Trust, now a registered charity, has helped a number of people who applied. The AGM of the Fund takes place on 29th May in the Tirry Centre at 8.30pm and we ask anybody who is interested to attend on that night. Application forms for help can be obtained from Denis Burke (Secretary) Red City, Fethard, phone: 052-6131852.
The death has occurred on Monday 10th May, of Austin Kenny, Baptistgrange, Lisronagh. Austin was a very active member of Red Cross and Clonmel Dolphin Swimming Club throughout his life. Interment took place in Rosegreen Cemetery.
Killusty Pony Show
The next Killusty Pony Show meeting will be held on Thursday 20th May at 8.30pm in the Tirry Centre Fethard. We are heading into the 47th year of the show which is to be held on Saturday 3rd July at Claremore Killusty. Schedules are now available. We will also hold the popular dog show that is getting bigger ever year.
Mick Aherne Perpetual Trophy

Fethard GAA Club News
Our minor footballers continued their winning ways with the U-16s already South Champions. They had an impressive victory in the South semifinal played on Saturday last in Monroe finishing on a scoreline of, Fethard 2-10, Mullinahone 1-6. We had a ‘man of the match’ performance from Eoin Fitzgerald who scored 2-1 in five minutes that shocked the opposition. We wish them the best of luck against Kilsheelan/Kilcash in the final after the exams. Eoin O’Connell gave a ‘man of the match’ performance at midfield scoring 4 points from play. This now gives Fethard 5 points out of a possible 6, with Fr Sheehys and St Marys left to play.
