I know that a racehorse called ‘Kerstin’ was bred somewhere in your region and I am trying to trace anyone who knew of her or maybe had something to do with her. I am the daughter of the owner Harry Moore and this coming year (2008) will be the fiftieth anniversary of the mare wining the Cheltenham Gold Cup. I intend to be at Cheltenham to celebrate what I think was a great achievement for the North of England - Northern owner Harry Moore; Northern trainer Verly Bewicke; and Northern jockey Stan Hayhurst. At the time I was a seventeen-year-old girl and I was not able to see the mare win the race but I vowed then that if I could I would be at the 50th Anniversary. Well I will be there and hopefully I will be able to meet up with some people who knew of her origins. If you can put me in touch with the stud where she was born that would be wonderful. Many thanks. Margaret O'Doherty” (email: sandmod@talktalk.net). Cemetery Rosaries Slievenamon Musical Society stages ‘My Fair Lady’ My Fair Lady the story of a young cockney lass who is plucked from her familiar surroundings and placed in a middle class environment simply for a bet is one of the most loved stories told to us through music. Henry Higgins or should I say Professor Higgins believes he can change this ‘guttersnipe’ as he calls her from an annoying foul speaking creature to a lady. Will he succeed? Well, he has a huge task ahead of him and his challenge leaves this middle-aged man with mixed emotions for this young girl. His feelings take a turnabout, which leave him wondering what has happened until he realises life without her is not the same. A wonderful story; great songs; and a must see! Booking is now open at Tel: 087 7814290 or 087 3283074. Fethard Rugby Club Our under sixteen’s travelled to Waterpark and were beaten on a score line of 27 points to 19. Our lads settled the better and were rewarded with a well-taken try within 5 minutes, by Ciaran Power after he won the fall from a Waterpark lineout. Waterpark upped the intensity and scored 3 tries and a conversion before the break to leave the score 17 to 5. On the restart the Fethard lads fought back bravely with James Kavanagh, Sam Manton, Matt O’Sullivan and Colm Shanahan putting in the tackles and making the hard yards which gave the platform for our backs to show there attacking prowess with Aaron Conran, Alan Casey and Daniel Hickey being very effective. These attacks and strong forward play gave Ciaran Power a hat trick and Daniel Hickey converted to close the gap to 3 points. Fethard looked to be well on top at this stage with Joe Maher tackling with a ferocity that belies his years. Waterpark got a lucky breakaway try to finish the game. Best wishes to Sam Manton who retired with an eye injury. Our under elevens travelled to Carrick and though they lost the game, this band of young rugby players did the club proud and showed great promise. Those to impress were Niall Prendergast, Jack Kennedy, Gerard Horan, Charlie Manton and Charlie Carroll. Our under twelve’s also played Carrick and gave an exhibition of Munster style rugby, rucking and mauling their way to a very exciting draw. This was a game of the two packs and the Fethard pack scored two great tries through Jimmy Feehan and Shane Cleere. The Fethard lads also defended bravely with every player putting their bodies on the line to hold Carrick at bay time and again. Paul Butler and Ciaran O’Connell were particularly effective in defence. Our under fourteen’s played Clanwilliam and fought back bravely to take the honours. The try scorers were William Croke, Keith Quirke, James Holohan and Colin Maher. Eoin Fennelly gave an exhibition of kicking in scoring all the coverts. Congratulations to Matthew Fitzgerald, Ciaran Power and Shane Kavanagh on being selected for the under Seventeen Easter-Munster side, with Matthew and Ciaran also making the under sixteen Munster team. This is a great achievement by these young men and reflects very well on the club and the quality of coaching. Well done to all.
