Planning Permission Granted Tipperary County Council has granted planning permission for the amended design which is great news for our schedule as groundworks and site services are due to commence in Sept/October which is rapidly approaching. Hardcopies of the Masterplan for Fethard Town Park can be viewed in person at Fethard Horse Country Experience. Please get in touch info@fethardtownpark to arrange viewing or pop in if you are passing.
PPN Membership - Fethard Town Park is now a member of PPN Tipperary. The PPN is a collective of community, voluntary, social inclusion and voluntary groups in the County. It represents the Community Voice at county level, provides training and is a key source for information on grants, funding, consultations and all relevant activities. The PPN through it's Wellbeing Vision, for each municipal district, enables communities to create a better Tipperary.

Park Benches - Fethard Town Park will be making a grant application to the Age and Opportunity National Grant Scheme. The dealine for this application is 12noon, Friday, 2nd October, 2020. Grants are open for organisations in relation to equipment/resource items and outdoor physical programmes. We hope to raise funds for park benches to enable more inclusivity on the looped walk. Please get in touch if you would like to participate or assist in this application.
Walkway - Following a successful Expression of Interest application, Fethard Town Park has been invited to make an application to the South Tipperary Development CLG to its LEADER funding scheme. If successful, this application will go in some way to meeting a shortfall on funds in relation to completing and enhancing the walkway and landscaping.

A Letter of Support from your group/club is greatly appreciated to support these applications. Please email direct to info@fethardtownpark.ie

Funding Group - The next meeting of the of the Fundraising group will be on Wednesday, September 5th @ 11.30am. If you would like to join the group as a representative for a club, group or community member please get in touch. Together is better!

Fethard Town Wall- In partnership with Fethard Horse Country Experience, Fáilte Ireland have approved funding to upgrade existing signage for the historic walk throughout Fethard. This work will be undertaken in the coming weeks. In addition Creative Ireland, The ITWN (Irish Walled Town Network) and the local Heritage Office are working together on developing new signage similar to the attached image which they feel is a good fit for all of the Tipperary Walled Towns. We look forward to positive updates on this in coming weeks.

Surprise Party for Mrs La Terriere on Slievenamon 1959

On Sunday afternoon, August 2, 1959, a visitor in the Kiltinan area might be pardoned for rubbing their eyes in wonder at the sight of upwards of fifty children, mounted on multi-coloured ponies, trekking up the lower slopes of Slievenamon, led by a septuagenarian lady. The rear guard was composed of parents and adult friends, on foot, and Mrs Croom-Carroll, in a pony trap overflowing with infants too young to travel by horseback.

The occasion was an outing organised by the members of a riding school conducted by Mrs Joan De Sales le Terriere, Kiltinan Castle, for the purpose of entertaining their instructress at an outdoor party to mark her 70th birthday.

The tribute came as a complete surprise to the guest of the day and her pleasure was enhanced when during the function a box was opened, and a birthday cake adorned with several candles produced. Having cut the cake and distributed pieces, Mrs le Terriere expressed her deep appreciation and thanks to all concerned.

Mrs la Terriere’s letter of thanks sent to local newspaper

August 4, 1959

Dear Sir,
I am hoping you will be able to find space to print this letter in the columns of your values newspaper.

I wish to say how very much I appreciated the huge assembly of my friends and neighbours on the mountainside, where last Sunday, they had a wonderful reception awaiting me to celebrate my 70th birthday.

I now wish to thank everyone, especially Mrs Croom-Carroll, the organiser, and Mr William Holohan for the catering; also everybody who so generously assisted and provided most excellent sandwiches, cakes an all that could be wished for. Also, for the many presents and birthday cards people so kindly gave me. The beautiful cake with 70 candles presented by my friend, Mr Bobby O’Brien, Parnell Street, Clonmel, whom I have known since his childhood and at one time had tried to make into ‘a jock’, but his taste was for confectionery and we find a right good confectioner he is. We do not forget the services of Mr Michael Keating, the photographer, whose pictures we hope to see published.

I have yet to mention how much we appreciated the music, which was supplied by Mr Jimmy Murray, who plays beautifully and never seems to tire. Their dancing, songs and recitations all added to the day's enjoyment, the weather and scenery being perfect. I have to thank everybody for the generous subscription which was collected for me to buy a present for my new flat, which I am hoping to move into before the winter.

As it would be impossible for me to thank everybody individually, I hope they will accept this as my appreciation. I am not brilliant at speechmaking and was caught unawares, as I would most certainly have suggested three cheers for Mrs Evie Croom-Carroll, the chief organiser, who left no stone unturned to make the entertainment such a huge success.

Trusting you will find space to publish this letter.

Yours,
Joan De Sales la Terriere,
Kiltinan Castle, Fethard.

Former teacher Denis Burke asks your support for Alanna
My name is Dinny Burke I am a native of Fethard and a retired teacher from Patrician Presentation Secondary School Fethard.

Like anyone reading this web page I am aware of the serious illness that has struck Alannah, the wife of Martin Sheehan, originally from Killusty and a past pupil of the above school. Martin is also a former player with Fethard Juvenile Club.

I appeal to anybody from the Parish of Fethard and Killusty and every past pupil of Fethard Secondary school to go to the GO FUND ME site mentioned below and donate any amount you can afford to help Martin and his wife Alannah and their young family at this very trying time.

My sincere thanks in advance, and best wishes to Martin and his family

Alannah and Martin are parents to three wonderful children; Finn (5), Luca (3) and Phoebe (9 months) and would really appreciate any help to raise vital funds towards their medical expenses to help prolong her life! To support Alannah on her GO FUND ME page

Martin Sheehan of the Killusty (Cloran) Sheehans, now living in North Tipperary.  Martin and his wife Alannah recently received heart-breaking news. A couple of weeks after the birth of their third child and first daughter, Phoebe (9 months), Alannah started getting headaches. After a couple of visits to the doctor she was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Cancerous Brain tumour, also known as Glioblastoma Multiforme. This is a very rare incurable cancer and was told she has only a 50 percent chance of surviving past two years.

Martin has had to give up his work to take care of the family. Since this started in February this year, financial liabilities are growing and this week they have finally reached out for help via a GO FUND ME page set up by their close friend Jennifer Corcoran.
