The Senior Club held their AGM on Friday, January 14, 2011. I t was well attended by forty-three members. Club President, Fr. Tom Breen, spoke with passion and asked that both players and members commit more in all areas of the club in order to go forward into a brighter future. He asked that members take pride in our club, pull our socks up and put a bit of 'back-bone' into our contribution to what is part of our national heritage, and pride of our parish. Fr Breen, certainly left the meeting with healthy 'food for though'.

Outgoing chairman, Jimmy O'Shea, stepped down from his post after many years of support and commitment to the club. We wish him well and we know he will always be on hand to help out and support the club in anyway he can. Jimmy received a well earned rapturous round of applause.

Gus Fitzgerald (PRO) also stepped down from his post after many years. Gus will continue to assist in any way he can and will still continue to promote the County Bord Draw as well as our Lotto Draw. Gus will be unavailable for the foreseeable future as he is due to undergo surgery this week. We take this opportunity to wish Gus a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing back in full swing in the near future.

The 2011 Fiodh Ard committee are: Patsy Lawrence (chairman), P.J. Aherne (vice chairman), Mary Godfrey (secretary), Ann Fleming (assistant secretary), Stephen Fitzgerald (treasurer), John Fitzgerald and Ann Fleming (joint public relations officers), Eoin Fitzgerald (senior players representative) and Andy O'Donovan (designated childrens' officer).

Hunting News
Tipperary Foxhounds had a field of over seventy riders for their Lawn Meet at Coolmore on Thursday, January 13. Having been lavishly entertained they moved off to their first draw close to the Coolmore offices. Finding here they ran towards Coolbawn Cross. Turning right-handed in Skehans they ran back to Kilnockin. Right-handed here they flashed across the Fethard – Killenaule Road to the old Kilnockin Racecourse. Sam got ahead of them here and they were stopped as they were running out of country.

Back to Coolmore they found by the Banogue River in Anglim's. Away from here they fairly flew back through Dillon's and Skehan's crossing the St. Johnstown road to Prendergast's. Doing a u-turn here they ran back over the same ground, Charlie getting to ground just ahead of hounds at Coolmore Lake, quite close to where found. Peppardstown House area drew blank, hounds again down by O'Donnell's. They hunted through Sparrow's across the road to Niall O'Donnell's. Turning again here they re-crossed the St. Johnstown Road, ran down almost to Dillon's, turning again here they hunted to where found. This good fox got to ground in a pile of round bales.

They found again in Blackmore's, running down to the St. Johnstown Road they were stopped as they were heading towards country already hunted over. They finished with a run from the fort at Coolbawn Cross to ground in Cooney's and from the Waterfall they had a short run through Donal Kennedy's and to ground in Ritchie Holohan's.

The large field out included a party of American visitors including a huntsman of an American foxhound pack. They said their day with the Tipps was the highlight of their Irish hunting holiday. Their huntsman was loud in his praises of the Tipperary hounds, both of their quality and hunting ability and also highly complimentary to Tipps huntsman Derry Donegan. They say in business, "a satisfied customer always returns" and the American visitors, who took some souvenir photographs of their Tipperary visit, promised to make a return visit in the future.

With the White Heathers
As a mark of respect to the Hayden family, who had suffered a bereavement in recent days, the Ballylusky White Heather Harriers transferred their meet on Sunday last to Killusty. Drawing up the Glen they were slow to find until reaching Mullinbawn. From here they ran towards Fethard crossing the Fethard – Killusty Road to the Sawmill, crossing the Cloneen Road to Carroll's where they lost him. Returning to Byrnes Rock they found again. To Bannixtown, turning right-handed they ran through Donovan's to the Killusty Road which they crossed at Grove back-gate. Right-handed here they hunted the grove inside the estate wall re-crossing the road at Mullinbawn pump house.

Through Roebucksland they ran to Byrnes where they marked to ground. Finding again across the Cloneen road they hunted to Bennettshill. Swinging left here they ran through Mouse Morris' Gallops, crossed the Fethard – Cloneen Road back to Mullinbawn where they lost him. Finishing a nice days sport at 3.30pm. Fethard Rugby Club
The mini's played had an enjoyable morning of rugby at home to Thurles last Sunday. The weather was kind to us and it was marvellous to see so many youngsters out enjoying themselves.

The under-9 squad was: Colin Fitzgerald, Jack Hassett, Sean Ryan, Cain Welch, Mark McCormack, Paddy Gaynor, David Hayes, Richard Robinson, Matthew Burke and Conor Vaughan. These boys played well with some good recycling of the ball along with a few tackles. Keep up the training boys and huge thanks to Alistar MacDonald for all his continued work in coaching this group.

The under-10 squad met a strong organised Thurles team who were well versed. Fethard's team was: Peter Wall, Angus MacDonald, Aaron Quigley, Ben Purcell, Matthew Thompson, Will, Matthew Gleeson, Lucy Murphy, Ian Harrington, David Ivors and Ryan Walsh. They showed a few nice tackles and some pieces of good play throughout their game with a case of work in progress for this group.

Special thanks to the three players of Thurles who swapped with Fethard players to make for a more informative match. Also special 'Get Well' wishes to coach Anthony Wall. We look forward to seeing you back on the pitch soon. Thank you very much to all the coaches, players, parents and supporters who travelled on the day. Training for the minis takes place every Friday evening from 6.45pm to 8pm.
Our under 11 panel got the exciting opportunity to play a halftime fixture against a Douglas side at the Munster v Glasgow Warriors in Musgrave park on January 8. A panel of fourteen travelled by minibus with parents and coaches in tow to maintain order. A few singsongs, a lot of fighting for the backseat and one pit-stop later we arrived in Cork.

The first treat was a VIP style entry, no tickets and straight past the queues. The second was to see some squad members in Fethard colours in the match programme and the third and most important was a chance to meet Munster players after the match.

Excitement began as the Munster squad entered the field, realising that in forty-minutes time it would be their chance to play in front of 7,000 rugby fans. As Munster left the field the Fethard squad entered full of confidence and chomping at the bit to go. And go they did! I have never witnessed a mini's game of rugby played with such intensity. From the whistle the Fethard side captained by Gavin Ryan attacked and David McCormack was first to cross the line with a great individual break. The well-drilled Douglas side tried to do the same but were met with ferocious tackles and counter rucking that the Munster squad would be proud of.

After turning over Douglas possession Fethard struck again with a try from Dara Lynch. More great defending followed and for the eight or so minutes the game lasted Douglas did not even get into the Fethard half. The game may have been brief but all players got to showcase their talents. Douglas were gracious in defeat and are eager for a rematch at some stage this season! After the match our squad got to meet a few of their heroes with a lot of the Munster players signing jerseys, balls and anything else our guys could find to write on. A perfect end to a day that will be with them forever.

U-11 Squad: Gavin Ryan, Joe Carroll, Harry Cummins, John Gilman, Danny Gleeson, Daragh Lynch, Dale Murphy, Ruth McDonald, Owen McGarry, David McCormack, Frank Meagher, Padraig Harrington, Patrick Scully and Ciaran O'Dwyer. Coaches: Martin Murphy and Michael McCormack.
