Fethard Tidy Towns
The Fethard Tidy Towns committee would like to thank all who supported their church gate collection on last weekend. The big clean up is ongoing at the moment. Black spots identified are, around the Town Hall, and the car park at the Cashel Road. Some people still dump their rubbish and leave it for us or the County Council to clean it up. So please put your bottles in the bottle bank and take your cardboard boxes and plastic bags home with you.
Thanks to all who helped in any way so far with our ‘litter picking’ which takes place on most nights of the week. We are looking for new faces to come along and help out. Planting of the flower beds is now taking place at the moment many thanks to Jimmy Horan and his team of workers for all their help. Thanks also to all who helped with our recent successful cake sale, school poster competition and to all children who took part and their teachers for their help. Following the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century, the buildings were subsequently neglected and fell into ruin and are now in the care of the Office of Public Works.

With an amazing sixty years teaching between them, Dick and Margaret Prendergast, together with their loved family, colleagues past and present, and Canon Tom Breen P.P. celebrated the end of one road and the beginning of a new life at Raheen House on Thursday 4th June. It was a warm and convivial occasion, tinged with nostalgia, nevertheless a fitting tribute to the wonderful dedication and verve that both Margaret and Dick brought to the countless students of Patrician Presentation Secondary School that passed through their very capable and caring hands throughout the years. Margaret Walsh from Coolmoyne, and Richard Prendergast from Kilkenny imparted so many values to boys and girls from Fethard and its hinterland, in particular a great love of the Irish language. Their legacy will live on; their grace and companionship will never be forgotten; may their future be filled with health and happiness, and a myriad of memories of a time well spent. Go n-eiri an bothair.
