| Oireachtas Outreach Programme
Through the Oireachtas Outreach Programme third year students from Fethard Patrician Presentation Secondary School attended a morning workshop on Monday last on the work of the Oireachtas. Local politicians Tom Hayes Martin Mansergh and Phil Prendergast also attended a subsequent question and answer session with the students. Also included in the photograph with the students and politicians are Majella Whelan, Marinella Raftery, Emma Ryan, Michelle Edwards, Margaret Barrett and Orla Barrett.
The Houses of the Oireachtas Education Programme will run in all post-primary schools nationwide over the next two years. Fethard & Killusty Community Lotto Christmas Hams & Turkeys
From Wednesday 3rd December Fethard & Killusty Community Lotto will be giving extra prizes for 3 weeks. We will hold 3 free draws for turkeys and 3 free draws for hams each week for tickets entered. The last lotto draw before Christmas will be on Wednesday 17th December. We take a two week break over Christmas and the New Year and resume on Wednesday 7th January. Our thanks to everyone who has supported the lotto throughout the year and we look forward to your continued support in 2009. We would also like to specially thank our online players at home and away. It is great to see people who have moved on still supporting their community.

November Rosaries in our parish cemeteries
Next Sunday, 30th November we finish our month on Rosaries in Killusty Graveyard after Mass in the adjoining Church of the Sacred Heart at 10.30pm.

Hunting News
From Poulmucka on Monday 17th the first draw at Mrs. Nugent’s held. Hounds hunted across the Poulmucka Road but he quickly got to ground after running towards the beech grove and back to the near the entrance. A short run was had from Donegal covert where scent soon faded. Moving across to the coursing club grounds hounds did not find again until Breen’s. Finding in the overgrowth surrounding this historic building they hunted strongly down to the laneway near the old castle crossing the line here they were really away through the large fields in Mr. Nugent’s. Just when they looked like having a real flier the fox got to ground near Mr. Nugent’s large barn. Little could be done with a brace in Mrs. Clare Ryan’s one getting to ground in covert.
Foxes were scarce at Ballinure on Wednesday. Hounds did however provide excellent hound work as they huted strongly with great cry around Noan Wood fro thirty minutes. On Knockcura Hill Drangan on Thursday they found very quickly. After a short run across Knockcura they marked to ground on the far side near the Crohane road.
Foxes were again in very short supply in Ballingarry on Saturday. Grawniole held a brace which could not be persuaded to leave and had to be left. Hounds did not find again until drawing the gorse overlooking the Commons hurling field. Non-existing scent and a fox that first dodged and ducked around the covert provided the end to not the best of days. However, such is hunting and there is always tomorrow.
Senior Day at Fethard Day Care Centre
The Fethard & District Day Care Centre will hold a senior day on Friday 28th November from 11am. The chiropodist and public health nurse will be in attendance and a hot meal will be served.
Killusty National School
Kate O’Donnell, Killusty National School, presenting a cheque for €350, the proceeds of a coffee morning, to Sinaida Jansen, South Tipperary Hospice, on behalf of the people of Killusty. Also included with the pupils are Ms Frances Harrington (Principal), Tracy Wallace (Special Needs Assistant), Helena Delany, Josephine Mackey, Sarah O'Sullivan and Jim Bond (South Tipp Hospice).
With the White Heathers
Very eventful and rather unusual would be perhaps the best way to describe Sunday’s meet at Grove. Drawing from the entrance gate screen through Knockbordan to the Abbey Rocks hounds did not find. Back down the riverbank to Grove they did not find until just inside the estate wall at Mulleann Bawn. Hunting down through the forest inside the wall they crossed the avenue at the Back Lodge. A few circles of the forest here they hunted out on the far side for Tullow. Here a very heavy hail shower seemed to wash out all the scent and they lost him. Drawing Tullow, the Deerpark and Kilmaclugh Graveyard blank they had a fox away from here, which however, ran the short distance back to the Graveyard where he got to ground.
Moving on to the Carrigeen gorse which was blank, hounds marked in Loughcopple. A couple not at the mark opened in a nearby thicket. The others flew to the cry and before the whippers-in could get ‘round them the pack were away on a large stag. After hanging around here for a short while Rudolph decided that Home to Our Mountain was his best bet. Setting his muzzle or mask for Slievenamon he crossed the road on the Killusty side of Loughcopple Bridge crossing the full-flowing Anner as if it was not there he ran to Kyleavalla with the pack in close pursuit. A few circles here and they were away for Killurney.
By this time they were out of sight and sound. Fortunately, a friend of Donie’s was on a quad bike in Killurney Wood. He contacted Donie and with the information that hounds were hunting high up in the wood and were probably out on the heather. Donie quickly got around by car, like the runaway train in the song “he blew and he blew and he blew”. Fair dues to him he had all hounds on in a short while, near the reservoir at Ballyknockane. Hounds had been running for just over an hour. Our super-fit regular follower, John from Freshford had kept in contact until they crossed the river. After a few attempts to cross it he decided it was a bit too early for the Christmas Day swim. After that we had to play it by ear.
The cups of hot tea provided by Catherine and Tom after hunting each Sunday were never as welcome. From the Abbey Rocks to Killurney is six miles by road and a far bit further as the White Heather followers covered on Sunday. The Ballyluskey White Heather Harriers meet on Sunday next, at Fethard Rectory; on Sunday 7th December at Ballyluskey and on Sunday 14th December, Fethard for Rocklow. All meets at 11am.

Nano Nagle Parents Association’s Christmas Cards
The Nano Nagle Parents Association have produced beautiful Christmas Cards, which are now available at the school and from a number of local shops. We ask the local community to support the parents' association's fund raising effort and all funds raised will be used to provide services and equipment to the pupils.
The committee are currently working on producing the first School Newsletter which will be distributed to all pupils in the school. Any submissions for future newsletters can be sent to nanonagleparentsassociation@googlemail.com
Fethard Macra
Club members travelled to Ballyneale on Friday night where Slievenamon Macra was holding a table quiz. Although Fethard Macra didn’t win any of the top prizes a very enjoyable night was had by all. Well done to Slievenamon Macra for organizing the event. Indoor soccer for Fethard Macra continues on Thursday nights in Monroe. Indoor soccer for all clubs continues in Clonmel on Friday evenings.
The first round of the public speaking competition takes place on 29th November. We’d like to wish the best of luck to our club public speaking representatives — Michael, Edmund and David. Fethard Bridge Club
On Wednesday 18th November we played for our Gross Turkey prize. We play for the Nett Turkey on 26th November and the Change of Partner Turkey on 3rd December. The results of all the turkey competitions will be announced at our Christmas Party which will be held in the Tirry Centre on Sunday, 14th December. There are still a few subscriptions outstanding which are now due. Looking for a partner, contact Berney Myles at 32038.
Art Exhibition in San Francisco 'Field Systems'
Ms Pat Looby, Kerry Street, recently opened her solo exhibition of new paintings, 'Field Systems', in San Francisco at the David Cunningham Projects Centre. These photographs were taken at the opening and include many familiar Fethard faces now living in San Francisco.

Fethard and District Rugby Club
Christmas Party arrangements are now complete and the crack planned will make this the social event of the Christmas calendar as well as making much needed funds for the Rugby Club and Community Field. Secure your tickets now from any member!
This young under-9 team travelled to Thurles and proved to be far too strong for a game Thurles side winning by 10 tries to 2. The scorers for Fethard were Ned Grogan, Richard Holohan, Mark Heffernan, Jack Grace, Jason O’Connell, Patrick Scully, Harry Butler and Joseph O’Connor. Darragh Harcourt and Aaron Smullen were very strong defensively and prevented Thurles from getting a foothold in the game.
A twenty-four strong under-12 panel also travelled to Thurles and played a very tough game in equally unforgiving weather conditions. This young team got off to a slow start and Thurles led by 8 tries to 3 entering the final third of the game. Fethard were glad to welcome back Robert Horan whose defensive work kept Fethard in the game.
Two hat tricks from Darren Prout and Shane Cleere along with a try each from Tommy Anglim and Padraig Norton earned Fethard a well-deserved draw. Thurles continued to attack and were camped on the Fethard line but great tackling and stout defence from Tomas MacGabhann, Cathal O’Donnell, David Heffernan, Cathal Maher, Jack Stapleton and Jason Ryan ensured Fethard a share of the spoils. We play Clonmel at home next week so a full panel is required at training on Friday night.
Fethard under-14s hosted Kilfeacle and both teams offered up a very entertaining game of rugby where no quarter was asked or given. The Fethard forwards stood strong against a much bigger Kilfeacle pack. The Fethard lads followed every ball with tenacity and when Ciarán Walsh broke and carried the ball for half the length of the field to be denied an almost certain try on the line by fierce Kilfeacle tackling, our forwards were right behind Ciarán, rucking and mauling with such intensity that the ball squirted out for James Holohan who reacting the quickest and pounced on the ball for a great try under the posts. This was duly converted by Dylan Fitzgerald.
The Kilfeacle lads attacked relentlessly from the restart and were camped within the Fethard 22 for the remainder of the game, being stopped on the line time and again by courageous defence from all the Fethard team. Gareth Lawrence’s tackle count was very impressive at this stage which included holding up the ball when Kilfeacle crossed the line. Dylan Fitzgerald was outstanding at full-back throughout and saved the Fethard line on at least four occasions in the second half. This was a great team performance and coming on the back of an equally impressive win against Nenagh last weekend, these lads have guaranteed themselves a place in the knock-out stages of the league.
Despite a vigorous warm up it appeared as though the Fethard under-16s were still in bed as they allowed Thurles to cross the line for the opening try in the opening minutes. The next 15 minutes were hard to watch as our normally strong tacklers went missing in action. Our forwards eventually got into the rhythm of the game and in a great move involving the pack and the backs Ciarán Power was released to touch down under the posts. The conversion was well taken giving Fethard the lead of 7 points to 5 at the break. On the restart Thurles attacked with menace and were rewarded with a try. Our lads responded well with great running from Robert Hall, Adam O’Donnell and Sam Manton pilled the pressure forcing Thurles to concede a penalty which was converted by Fethard to tie the game. The next 10 minutes produced some great rugby from both sides but Thurles were destined to win this one. They scored a try under the posts which they converted to run out winners by 17 points to 10.
Pheasant Pluckers Gig
The Pheasant Pluckers will play in McCarthy's back room on this Friday night 28th November. Why not come along if you like to listen to some music with your drink!
Fethard Players ‘Three Angels’
Fethard Players are currently in rehearsal for their forthcoming production of ‘My Three Angels’ a comedy by Albert Husson. The play, produced by Austin O’Flynn, will be staged in the Abymill Theatre from Friday 28th November to Wednesday 3rd December inclusive. The play is set in a tropical French prison colony, Devil’s Island, and tells the story of three convicts and their involvement with a store owner and his family. The action takes place on a Christmas Eve in 1910. The cast includes Ann Connolly, Angela Dillon-Whyte, Niamh Hayes, Marian Gilpin, Jimmy O’Sullivan, Colm McGrath, Joe Hanly, Pat Brophy, Gerry Fogarty and Matt O’Sullivan. An enchanting classic comedy suitable for all ages. Early booking is advisable.
Preparing for Christmas
Advent is a time of spiritual preparation to celebrate the real meaning of Christmas.
Put some time aside for prayer and personal reflection during this time by joining in an hour of prayer at the Presentation Convent at 7.30pm on Monday evenings, commencing on 1st December. Encourage your family and friends to come along as well. All are welcome.
Christmas Bazaar in aid of Missions
The Presentation Sisters’ Zimbabwe Mission Appeal will hold a Christmas Bazaar at the ICA Hall on Sunday 30th November from 2pm to 6pm. Admission is free and all are invited to come along and maybe find that unusual handmade Christmas present for someone special. A selection of hand-crafts, bric-a-brac and much more will be on sale. There will also be a raffle for a beautiful Christmas Hamper full of all kinds of Christmas fare. So please come along and support this very worthwhile cause.
