Top guitarist to play at Crocanoir
Crocanoir, music at the foot of Slievenamon on the Mullinahone road, are delighted to welcome virtuoso guitarist Will McNichol for the first time on Monday September 1, starting at 8pm.
Will became UK Acoustic Guitarist of the Year (2011) and a Fellow of Trinity College London for his playing and compositions. In 2014 Acoustic Guitar Magazine included Will in a list of their ‘30 Great Guitarists’ from around the world. He has released three albums of original material, and has gigged up and down the UK headlining his own solo shows, or supporting artists from Pierre Bensusan and Martin Simpson to Mumford & Sons.
Will’s music is influenced by styles from all over the world, and he has developed his own unique sound, with Celtic folk being the underlying inspiration behind a large majority of his own pieces. His performances have been described as “beautifully flawless”, as he swaps between nylon and steel string guitars to show the sheer variety of tone guitars can offer. For further information contact John at Tel: (052) 9153117 or 086 8907329.
Heritage Week this weekend
This year’s National Heritage Week will run from Saturday, August 23, to Sunday, August 30, and Fethard will join the national effort with Fethard Historical Society co-ordinating a local ‘Heritage Day’ on Friday, August 29.
Both the model of Fethard Medieval Town and the Grave Slab projects will be on view (free of charge) in Old Holy Trinity Church from 10am to 5pm with personnel present to interact with the visitors. This year’s Grave Slab project consists of the full size ‘rubbings’ of 12 carved grave slabs (from the 1500s to the 1700s) which are set in the floor of the church. These very large rubbings have been temporarily mounted on the church walls and their inscriptions have been deciphered and can now be read.
Backs to the Wall Tours will be conducting two tours of the Medieval Trail of Fethard at 11am and again at 2pm for anyone wishing to find out more about their hometown. The tours last one and half hours and cost €5 per adult with all children going free. Meet at the Foot Bridge in The Valley and there is no need to book, just turn up. Further information if needed is available on: www.backstothewalltours.com
