Not so long ago a group of local racing enthusiasts watching racing on TV in Butler’s Bar, Main St. decided to form a syndicate and purchase a race horse. Peter Nolan, one of the group was appointed to make the purchase. He bought a mare by Accordian out of Lady Roife, she was put in training at Nolan’s yard in Co. Wexford and thus the Lord of the Rings Syndicate was born. The lads certainly hit the jackpot. The mare was named Feathard Lady and won seven races including the Straw James Christmas Hurdle at Sandown on 26th December ’05 and looked definite Champion Hurdle Material, when unfortunately a tendon injury ended what promised to be an outstanding racing career. Her moments of glory were not however yet ended. The mare was entered for sale at the 2007 August Doncaster Sales and was sold for 270,000 guineas a record price for a National Hunt Broodmare. Perhaps the Lord of the Rings Syndicate encouraged by their success in their first venture into the racing game may be tempted to try their luck again. Best of luck and every success if they do decide to do so.
Yoga classes will commence in the Tirry Community Centre on Monday 1st October at 8.00pm. For further details contact Catherine on (087) 2890796.
