Touching Tribute
The solemn occasion was availed of by old comrades of the famous Tipperary player to honour his memory and the memory of other deceased members of the Fethard GAA Club.
It was a silent, but touching tribute, and indicative of that link of loyalty which death cannot sever, as the old-timers formed up on the Square and led by ‘Bloody Sunday’ and 1920 All-Ireland Championship veterans, marched to the Parish Church. The parade was headed by representatives of the men of tomorrow – the boys from the Patrician Schools, in charge of that staunch Gael, Rev. Brother Albert Small.
Altar Draped in Mourning
There was a large congregation in the Church, where the altar was draped in mourning. During Mass business was suspended in the town. In charge of the arrangements and parade were Messrs. John Keating, Vice-Chairman, South Tipperary GAA Board; P.J. Coffey, B.E. and W. B. O’Flynn. Relatives of the late Ned O’Shea present were Mrs Katie O’Meara (sister), Andrew O’Meara (brother-in-law) and Jim Currid (brother-in-law).

Pat Culligan’s Garden in Bloom
Pat Culligan sent us these photographs of his garden at his home in The Valley Fethard. Pat, a keen gardener, is making great use of his horticultural skills in these challenging times. His interest in gardening grew very quickly while recovering from a serious operation in 2006. Every morning he would go out into his garden and this gave him strength and happiness. Pat loves his garden and often quotes the old saying, “A thing of beauty is a joy forever!”

This Year's Holy Year Cross Pilgrimage Cancelled
People are no doubt aware at this stage that this year's pilgrimage to the Holy Year Cross on Sliabh ns mBan has been cancelled. Some people may still wish to make the climb, with that in mind Keith O'Donnell has kindly offered to allow people to park their cars in the Mass Rock field on Sunday, August 16. Please note that anyone parking there will do so at their own risk as the field will be unsupervised during the day.
This year is the 70th anniversary of the erecting of the first cross on the mountain, we should in our own way remember and pray for all those who put the time and considerable effort to build it. We will honour their memory at a future date when things return back to normal.
