The U12 girls football team are really on fire at the moment, after winning their county title in Semple Stadium they proceed to win the Féile in Tralee, a county title in New Inn, and became Munster Champions all in the space of one week.
Katie Wyse opened the scoring with a great goal after five minutes into the first quarter of their semi-final against Kilmurry/Brickane, Co. Clare, which was quickly followed by a goal from Kelly Ryan to lead 2-0. Nicole Delaney scored 2 goals and Heather Spillane scored a goal bringing the half time score to 5-0 to 1-0. When play resumed further goals scored by Kaycie Aherne, Katie Wyse and Nicole Delaney brought the final tally to 8-0 – 1-1.
Glanmire, Cork won their semi-final by 11 points and looked formidable opposition in the final but didn’t know what hit them when each Fethard girl played a vital role in securing the title with an amazing score of 5-14 to 0-2 to the delight of their mentors, parents and spectators.
Scorers were Nicole Delaney 3-4, Aine Connolly 1-0, Kaycie Ahearn 1-0, Heather Spillane (captain) 0-4, Kelly Ryan 0-3, Lucy Kenny 0-3. Team managers were: Micheál Spillane and Sean Óg Ryan.

Front L to R: Zach Smith, Gavin Neville, Ben Allen, T J Keane, Sami Laaksonen, Killian Hallinan and Alex Butler.
The U10 boys’ football team also had a great game in their semi-final against Cooraclare/Cree, Co Clare. These lads showed determination and skill just failing the hold the strong challenge of Clare during a game where the weather was a bit unkind with a strong cross wind and showers. It was a great achievement to become county champions in Semple Stadium and their Munster certificates of merit were well deserved. These young boys will have benefited from the experience and we are sure to hear more from these players and their manager Jimmy Smith. We are very proud to be associated with such talent.
The girls will now compete in the National Finals in Athlone – weekend to be confirmed. Mark O’Meara will compete in boys U10 Handwriting on weekend one, Saturday, August 13, at 2pm.
All managers please note adults must be Garda vetted for Community Games ASAP in order to be eligible to accompany children. All competitors must complete a Form of Consent and Medical Form.

UCD King John 800 Conference, Dublin Castle
The story of Fethard began with the coming of the Anglo-Normans to Ireland eight centuries ago. The low hill on which the town is sited was chosen as the location of a major settlement by a Norman lord, almost certainly William de Braose who had been installed by King John in 1201 as the chief tenant of a very substantial territory encompassing most of the modern county Tipperary.
The following information was brought to our attention by architectural historian, Prof. Tadhg O'Keeffe, who is fondly remembered in Fethard for his many informative lectures and his publication in 1995 of the ‘Archaeological and Historical Survey of Fethard’, commissioned by South Tipperary County Council, and in 2003, for his publication. ‘Irish Historic Towns Atlas: No. 13 Fethard’, as part of the Royal Irish Academy's brilliant Historic Town series.
UCD are hosting a major three-day International conference, from September 8-10, 2016, to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the death of King John. It will be the largest ever gathering of specialists in the life and legacy of John.
King John was the most important English king in Irish history, who died 800 years ago this year. This is a unique opportunity to hear the leading experts, Irish and international, historians and archaeologists, speak on King John's career.
We would love to see people attend who have a passion for local history. John was an internationally important king but no corner of Ireland was unaffected by events of his reign.
