Thanks to all who helped in any way. Fethard Juniors played Moyne Templetuohy in Moyne Templetuohy on Sunday evening in the Junior C Championship. The girls had a very easy victory in this event. Fethard Bridge Club On Wednesday 3rd October we play for the Free Sub Gross and the following Wednesday, 10th October, we play for the Free Sub Nett. We hope to see all our members back by then. Anyone looking for a partner please contact Berney Myles at 32038. Fethard Juvenile GAA Club The Under-16s still have a few matches to play and have reached the south quarterfinal of their championship bid. We wish them the very best of luck. Match results and report will be printed when games have been played. The Under-10s took part in the centenary celebrations that took place over the weekend in Monroe. A great day was had and a very young under-10 team took part in a football blitz. They were not to be winners on the day but certainly put on a wonderful display of football. Thanks to Monroe for their hospitality. Help For The Homeless A large crowd attended the prize giving ceremony, where Fethard’s Alice Leahy, the co-founder of Trust, handed out the prizes. Alice spoke of how the charity is now over thirty years in operation and needed even more support now than when it was founded. Despite our booming economy, Alice noted that she had homeless people from eleven countries seeking help at her door last week. The marginalized in our society need her help more and more each year. Thus it was heartening to see so many people selflessly putting their hands in their pockets to help out. The evening finished with a barbecue with music provided by the excellent ‘Supernoodles’ (formerly known as Back Door) band from Kilkenny. The committee would like to thank all of those who helped make the event such a success. It is gratifying to note that every penny of the funds raised will go directly into day-to-day use and not get eaten up by administration or high tech offices. Napier Family Information Van DeVater whereabouts Mattie’s Clinic Group Fitness Classes Fethard & Killusty Community Lotto Results The €50 Luck Dip winners were: Gormley and Hunting The Thin End of the Wedge Is this the beginning of the Green party pushing their agenda on Fianna Fail, and the country? This smacks of the Green Party (with John Gormley at the helm) promoting their internal priorities in incremental steps. Since going into government, the Green Party have been working on their policies, with John Gormley emphasising at every step the Green Party policy matters relating to the environment and other policy. What will be next for the Minister and his Party? While Minister Gormley’s position directly relates to the countryside, agriculture, and the rural population, he is woefully out of touch with the tradition and pride associated with these sports, which are not intended to cause harm to animals and are a wonderful family activity. Tom Hayes said publicly in a Dáil debate: “Everybody is opposed to the mistreatment of animals, regardless of the side of the debate they are on, or the part of the country in which they live. I love what is good in rural Ireland, whether it is coursing, hunting hares, beagling or whatever, and I believe there is a strong agenda to stop those sports.” Will the Green Party slowly work on this agenda, and where will we stand at the finish line if this unstable coalition lasts a full five years in government? For further information, please contact Tom Hayes on 087 8105016.
