Students' Council
The following pupils were elected by their respective classes to the Students' Council for the 2011 – 2012 School Year. 2nd Year: Mikey Earl and Aine Proudfoot. 3rd Year: Shannon Dorney and Adam Fitzgerald. 4th Year: Aobh O'Shea and James Maher. 5th Year: Ronan Fitzgerald, Chloe Byrne and Emma Hayes. 6th Year: Jane Fitzgerald and Andrew Maher. The Students' Council meets regularly and has a high profile in the school. Ms Marie Maher is the staff representative on the Students' Council and has worked hard to empower the pupils to represent themselves. A Student's Council training day, facilitated by Ms Maher and Ms Sinead Burke, was held in the school last May.
Le Chéile
Dr. Eilis Humphries, Education Officer with Le Chéile and Séan Goan, its' Faith Development Officer will address staff on Monday next October 3rd from 3.40 pm to 5.40 pm. They will then meet the current Board of Management members under the Chairmanship of Br. Matthew Hayes.
Parents' Association Collection
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the Parents' Association Collection, in aid of School Funds, on the weekend of September 17th. The School Management is very grateful for the work and the support of this wonderful association.
Ladies Football
Well done to the under 16 School Ladies Football team on their participation in the first round of the Munster Schools' competition. Unfortunately, they were beaten by a stronger team from St. Ailbes but represented the school well on the day. Beidh Lá Eile ag an bPaorach! They were accompanied by Mr Cummins and by Thomas and Marie McCarthy from the Fethard GAA, whose work with the team is much appreciated by all.
School Choir
A School Choir has been formed to perform at events in the school during the year. Last year's Glee Club, organised by Ms O'Shea and Ms Barrett identified great talent in the school community and these pupils now form the core of the choir. The Choir is organised by Ms McKeogh with Ms Vaughan as organist.

Fethard Macra
Autumn brings many events in the Macra calendar.
National club officer training took place in the Johnstown House Hotel in Enfield, county Meath on Saturday and Sunday, September 23 and 24. Several members from the club attended. In the past our officers have found this training invaluable for fulfilling their roles at club level. All who travelled this year found it a good experience once again.
Last Friday night the annual 'Know your Ag' quiz was held in Anglim's bar, Cloneen. Teams from Kilkenny and South Tipperary participated. After a tiebreak finish Callan Macra and Fethard Macra qualified for the national final. Fethard produced two teams on the night but the winning team members were Paul Tierney, David Ryan, John McCormack and Noel Clancy. The national final of 'Know your Ag' will be held on Friday, October 28, at the Macra national rally in Cork which will be held in the Radisson Blu hotel in Little Island. Also at the rally, Stephen Tierney will represent South Tipperary at the under-23 beef stockjudging and Michael Moclair will undertake the senior sheep judging on Sunday, October 30.
On Saturday night last the club headed to 'Hot Shot's' bowling in Clonmel to partake in the South Tipperary round of the national bowling competition. A good number of teams took part, with Clonoulty Rossmore emerging as victors on the night. They will now proceed to the next round.
The public speaking competition will take place on October 14, in Boherlahan. Fethard hope to field a team on the night.
Now that autumn is here again and the nights are drawing in, volleyball has begun again on a weekly basis. All South Tipperary members are invited to attend. Games take place every Thursday night at 9pm in Clerihan hall. See you there!

ICA Notes
Our next meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 11, at 8pm in the ICA Hall, Rocklow Road. Our guest speaker will be Hans Voss, so ladies you can have your gardening questions ready for Hans. Catering by the 'Red Group'.
On Thursday, October 27, South Tipperary Federation are holding a 'Back to Basics' cooking demonstration with celebrity chef, Edward Hayden, in Clonmel Park Hotel. Members and non-members are very welcome to come along. A great night is assured. The evening starts at 8pm and tickets are €20 each.

The numbers drawn on September 28, were: 2, 5, 23 and 28. We had no Jackpot winner and one 'Match Three' winner who received €150 each: Margaret Bradshaw, Congress Terrace, Fethard.

TaekWon-Do Classes

Fethard Juvenile GAA Club AGM
The AGM of Fethard Juvenile GAA Club be held on Friday, October 28, at 8pm in the Tirry Centre, Fethard. Nominations to the executive committee must be with the Club Secretary, Mary Godfrey, by 8pm on Friday, October 7, 2011. Rule 6.2 (Club Constitution) and Rule 7.3 (Club Constitution) applies.
This meeting is open to all and we hope to see many there. We are looking for trainers, assistants and committee members for the 2012 GAA season. We also appeal to our senior players to come along and commit to take a training session in 2012 season.
U10 South Division Blitz
Our U10s took part in the South Division Hurling Blitz at the weekend in Ned Hall Park. Well done to all our lads who played and played really well.
Minor B Hurling
Our Minor B Hurlers were unable to overcome the superiority of the Skeheenarinka Panel yesterday in Monroe yesterday losing out on our chance to proceed to the South Final.

The U13 match probably came a bit early in the season for Fethard with a lot of players only playing together for the first time. Their opposition was an extremely well drilled side from Waterpark with some exceptionally talented players, who dominated the game from start to finish. With our outing next week to Clonmel, there should be a vast improvement in the Fethard team. Hoping to see everyone at training at 6.45pm on Friday evening.
U12 training continues every Friday for this team, which is making progress after some great tough sessions. Padraig Harrington, Danny Gleeson and David McCormack doing some great work with Ciaran O'Dwyer, Harry Cummins and the two new guys from Clerihan, Jack and Seamus, being a big help. Training continues for U12 every Friday evening at 6.45pm with new players always welcome.
Fethard RFC and Girls rugby continues every Friday night at 8pm with new players always welcome, this is a relatively new team for girls from 13 to 17 years.
Fethard J2s played a challenge match against a strong Mitchelstown side in Fethard on Sunday which the Fethard team won well in a game which saw some great movement from both sides. The Fethard pack led by Robert Hall were on top in most phases of the game but particularly in the lineouts. Seamie O'Keefe was outstanding in the loose and was ably assisted by Paddy Teehan, Paul Scully and Cliff O'Halloran when introduced. The front row of Nigel O'Connell, Kevin Hayes and David Kelly were excellent in the set pieces. The backs put some great moves together with the new Trevor Ivors, Michael Power, Michael Fitzgerald and Martin Murphy always causing problems for the Mitchelstown defence. This Fethard team will need to keep up the work at training as tougher tasks lie ahead. New players are always welcome and training continues Tuesdays and Fridays at 8pm.
Africa – trip of a lifetime!

Over the past 8 to 10 years many Fethard people have travelled with Tracy Piggott to Africa working on charity projects with Playing for Life and ‘Self Help Africa’. Next January we are bringing a group of GAA hurling and football stars to Ethiopia to fund the building of a school/sports hall and to demonstrate Gaelic Games to local Ethiopian young people. About thirty supporters will be brought as well and if anyone from Fethard would like to be part of this group please get back to me, Seamus Hayes, as soon as possible. The launch of the project will take place in Croke Park on Tuesday and I expect that the places will be taken up very quickly after that.
Come on Fethard people you are getting first option on what will be a truly unique visit to one of the most beautiful areas of the world as yet seen by only a tiny group of travellers. The area of the Arc of the Covenent, Axum and Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches. The 11 medieval monolithic cave churches of this 13th-century 'New Jerusalem' are situated in a mountainous region in the heart of Ethiopia near a traditional village with circular-shaped dwellings. Lalibela is a high place of Ethiopian Christianity, still today a place of pilgrimage and devotion. An opportunity that only come once in a lifetime.
