Dogs and Graveyards
Locals (and non-locals) visiting graveyards are requested not to bring their darling pets with them on these occasions. We visit graveyards to show respect for those dear to us who have passed on. Unfortunately, dogs in particular, do not show the same respect – quite the opposite in fact – and leave paths and actual graves in a very unflattering state after doing their business.

We’ve had many complaints, despite the warning ‘No Dogs’ on the entrance gates, of perfectly attended graves being dug up by dogs and with their ‘leavings’ left on graves and paths – insulting to those above and below the ground! So please –No Dogs – take them for a walk but not to the graveyard!

Although all members were very familiar with Fethard it was their first time to FHC Experience and 'certainly not their last'.

Shoe Boxes for Clonmel Soup Kitchen

A local project to help ‘Clonmel Soup Kitchen’ support homeless people at their annual Christmas Party they have organised. You can help by preparing a ‘shoe box’ which might include some of the following items they suggest: toiletries, socks, gloves, hat, scarf, baby wipes, cereal bars, sweets chocolate, tinned foods, toothbrush, toothpaste, hot water bottle, ‘Pot Noodles’ or any long-life foods.

If you prefer, you can just put some items into a bag which would also be perfect. The local organisers can also arrange a collection night in Fethard Convent Community Hall in December (night to be decided) and they will drop them into Clonmel Soup Kitchen at the Railway Station. You don't have to use a shoe box you can put your items into a Christmas gift bag or a regular bag.

Your support would be greatly appreciated at this time of year when we particularly remember those less fortunate in our community. If you need further details please contact Pamela at Tel: 086 8743752.

Sporting Success for Killusty National School
On October 3, enthusiastic students from Killusty Nationals School embarked on the eagerly-awaited journey to Thurles Crokes Athletic grounds to make their debut in the County Tipperary Primary Schools Cross Country championships. Competing against students from similar sized Tipperary schools, Killusty children put their nerves aside and did themselves proud on the day.

Success came early. In the third and fourth-class girls race (over 800m), Sarah Moore led the team home earning an individual medal for her 5th place finish. Without much delay, she was followed home by her steadfast classmates. The girls claimed bronze in their team event - an excellent achievement.

In the fifth and sixth class boys race (over 1,000m) Killusty claimed the gold medal in the team event with Jack Davey, Matt Coen and Oisín Ryan finishing an outstanding 1st, 2nd and 5th respectively - all earning individual as well as team medals. The three boys were well supported by their classmates who all ran impressively in their race. Our third and fourth-class boys’ duo of Sam Coen and Tadhg Cuddihy raced bravely on the day, both finishing in the top half of the field. Finally, our fifth and sixth class girls ran with heart and spirit and were very unlucky to miss out on a team medal in their race. All the children did Killusty NS proud and represented the school with such distinction on the day. Acknowledgement is also awarded to Mary Keane – senior room teacher and instructor whose expertise in Athletics and commitment to hard work paid off in full.

And sporting success didn’t end with Athletics. On October 9, Killusty NS participated in the U13 Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic Football blitz in Cloneen. They played three games - defeating Slieveardagh, Kilvemnon and Skeheenarinky - ending the day as convincing winners of their group and advancing to the semi-finals. The semi-final came around without delay and on November 8, the 5th and 6th Class Gaelic Football team made their way to The Ragg in Thurles to compete against Aglish in the Cumann na mBunscol U13 county semi-final. It was a very exciting game with Killusty securing the win in the end. A super display of hard work and team spirit by everyone.

All roads led to Leahy Park in Cashel on Monday, November 20, for the much-anticipated County final against Killea N.S. In difficult conditions, both teams showed great determination. With huge support from the side-line and terrific effort on the field, Killusty were worthy winners bringing home the trophy for the second year in a row. Captain Matt Coen accepted the trophy with pride on behalf of his team mates – a tremendous reward for such tremendous effort from one and all.

The community representatives participating in the service included students and staff from the Patrician Presentation Secondary School, and local Garda Shane O'Neill. Among those in attendance also were numerous people who had been touched by road traffic tragedy over the years

Local students Amye O'Donovan, Mark Hayde, Jack Spillane and Carly Tobin led the prayers of the faithful. The offertory gifts were highly symbolic of the solemn occasion which was being celebrated and the students again were central to this, led by Tamara Doyle, Naomi Locke, Rachel O'Loughnan, Lauren Needham, Keenan Ahearne and Michael O'Meara.

The mass was concelebrated by Frs Gerry Horan OSA and Iggy O'Donovan OSA (Prior). This is the first time this particular event has taken place in Fethard and hopefully it will be an annual event.
