Patrician Presentation girls play well in Football Blitz

Well done to Patrician Presemtion 1st year and 2nd year girls who participated in a Football Blitz at Rockwell on October 7, 2021. They played St. Anne’s, Borrisoleigh, Rockwell, and had a very close game with Templemore. Great performance girls, well done!

GAA Sports Development Lotto
Fethard GAA Sports Lotto draw results for Friday, October 8, are as follows: the numbers drawn were: 15, 23, 28 and 29. There was no jackpot winner and no 'Match 3' winner. One 'Lucky Dip’ winner received €100: Andrew Heffernan, Clonmel. Three 'Lucky Dip' winners received €50 each:Donal Gleeson, Clonmel; Ciara Aylward, Killusty, Fethard; and Nicky Murphy, Belfast.

The committee of Fethard GAA Sports Centre Development Lotto would like to thank all our supporters near and far who participate in our weekly lotto draw. The next draw takes place on Friday, October 15, when the jackpot is €30,000 and the seller's prize is €1,000. The funds raised are used to promote sport in the local community.

Parish Church Lotto Draw Results

Fionn MacCumhaill Players stage 'The year of 21'

The Fionn MacCumhaill Players will stage their production of, 'The year of 21, in The Watergate Theatre, Kilkenny, on Friday, October 15, 2021, Booking now at Tel: 056 7761674. On Friday, October 22, the play will be staged at The Source Theatre, Thurles, Booking at Tel: 0504 90204.

Local writer, Brian Clancy’s latest work, 'The Year of ‘21', directed by Anne Williamson, explores the themes of religious and sexual identity, patriarchy and place in an era of great turmoil in Irish history. Grounded in real events that occurred towards the end of the War of Independence, this story explores how the loyalty and love of neighbours and friends are tested to the limits in times of extreme political violence.



The play also endeavours to imagine the voice of those who were on the wrong side of history at this time and to explore the emotional reactions of those who were indirectly affected by the violence. On the hundredth anniversary of the war, the themes of love, betrayal and profound loss are all relatable to a modern audience.

Died in England
The death has occurred on Friday, October 1, 2021, of Sarah Hammoum (née Morrissey), Kent, England, and formerly St. Patrick's Place, Fethard. Sarah, aged 55, predeceased by her parents, died after a short illness and was the youngest daughter of eleven children born to the late Mamie and Dan Morrissey, St. Patrick's Place, Fethard.

Sarah is survived by her husband Rachid Hammoum and their two daughters, to whom we send our deepest sympathy. Our sympathy also to Sarah's ten siblings, David, Philomena, Patsy, Mary, Benny, Majella, Declan, Patricia, Ann and Paula; and their extended families.

May she rest in peace. Funeral service will take place in Kent, England on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal 2021


The Christmas Shoebox Appeal is an Irish project that promises to get your 'Christmas Shoebox' into the hands of a needy child in Eastern Europe. All they ask is for you to fill a shoebox with a range of simple Christmas gifts, and drop it off at your local drop off point at Centra, Fethard, or Monica Pollard, Rocklow Road, up and including Monday, November 8, 2021. HOW TO BUILD A SHOEBOX

All you need to do is get an average size shoebox (or a plastic storage container would also be great), and wrap it with Christmas paper. This year we are vert short of empy shoe boxes and would be very grateful if anyone has some, to please drop them in to Geraldine McCarthy at Fethard Community Centre. Harvest Thanksgiving Service
A Harvest Thanksgiving Service will take place in Holy Trinity Church of Ireland Fethard on Friday, October 8, at 7.30pm. The congregation are pleased to announce that the service will be taken by The Rgt Revd Bishop Michael Burrows.

This is an ideal opportunity to come together and give thanks and praise for our beautiful world and all the food and nourishment we all enjoy. Adhering to the current Covid restrictions we can allow approx 80 people in the church so we are hoping people will join us in celebrating the Harvest.

"  It would appear to be part of Fethard's celebration of the 1932 Eucharistic Congress. This was held to commemorate the 15th centenary of St Patrick's arrival in Ireland some years after his escape from slavery there. It was a massive event culminating in Mass in the Phoenix Park which was attended by around a million people. I remember my aunt, Girlie Healy, telling me that she and family travelled to the Mass by an excursion train from Fethard. John McCormack sang 'Panic Angelicus' during the celebration.
