Dream for Danny - Help Danny Beat Cancer
Danny Norris is 6 years old. He is bright, bubbly and full of fun and mischief. In July 2020, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a cancer of the sympathetic nervous system, with tumours often occurring in the adrenal glands or abdomen. This rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer affects approximately 7 to 10 children in Ireland annually. At diagnosis, High Risk Neuroblastoma carries a relapse rate of 60%. If the disease were to come back it is even more challenging to treat successfully. Sadly, survival rates for those children who do relapse are low, less than 10%, a stark statistic. Consequently we are fundraising for further treatment to keep Danny in remission once all frontline treatment in Ireland has ended

If the disease were to come back it is even more challenging to treat successfully. Sadly, survival rates for those children who do relapse are low, less than 10%, a stark statistic. Consequently we are fundraising for further treatment to keep Danny in remission once all frontline treatment in Ireland has ended.

The organiser of Danny's GoFundMe page is Danny's mother, Lisa Sandvoss, who works in Fethard and lives in Ballymacarbry. Please CLICK HERE for Danny's GoFundMe Page and for further information about Danny's treatment.

Danny has had the best medical care and most intensive treatment available in Ireland and has bravely fought every step of the way. He has received excellent care from his Oncologist and all the staff in St. John’s Ward Crumlin as well as the Paediatric Ward in Tipperary University Hospital. We will forever be grateful for their help and support as well as the care they have shown to Danny and our family. However, Danny is now in the last phase of his frontline treatment plan in Crumlin - immunotherapy, which he will finish by early 2022. Once this has been completed, Danny will need to travel overseas for further treatment to give him the very best chance to be cancer free.

We, as Danny’s parents, are asking for your help to raise the necessary funds so that he can access a Bivalent Vaccine trial in Memorial Sloane Kettering Hospital (MSK) in New York . The vaccine aims to reduce the chances of Danny’s Neuroblastoma returning. This cutting edge treatment is not currently available in Ireland. MSK researchers have led the way in developing new ways to diagnose and treat cancer. They maintain one of the world’s most dynamic programmes of cancer research. – Lisa Sandvoss

DISCOVERFETHARD.COM

Fethard is a hidden gem with a unique story to tell and a significant place in Irish history. The 13th Century walled town weaves heritage into its very fabric; the walls and towers lent a real splendour to an already pretty town, and round every corner, there’s something else to see.

You can take a walk along the River Clashawley at Valley Park which is super rich in biodiversity, stroll through the graveyard and look down through the battlements or get up to date with the history of all things equine in what is widely known as horse country. Even better, pay a visit to the Fethard Horse Country Museum where you can check our what makes a winning racehorse.

Fethard has a wide range of cafes, bars and restaurants to cater for all tastes so you can choose from quick bites to Michelin starred meals, or pack up a picnic from the local deli and pick a spot to take in the views.

We love to spend our days in Fethard; we think you will too.

St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Collection
For the estimated 50,000+ homes who will contact the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) this winter the words of the popular song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” are totally at odds with their circumstances. For them Christmas can be the most worrying time of the year.
For the estimated 50,000+ homes who will contact the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) this winter the words of the popular song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” are totally at odds with their circumstances. For them Christmas can be the most worrying time of the year.

We would like to remind our many loyal supporters that our annual Church Gate Collection will take place on weekending  December 11 and 12, this year. As this is our only public fundraiser, we are happy to say that we are always very well supported by our donors. However, Covid restrictions has led to less people attending Mass, so this year, we will provide envelopes in which donations can be inserted and given to any member of the Fethard Vincent de Paul Conference.

Donations can also be sent by mail to: The Treasurer, St. Vincent de Paul, Fethard. Please do not send cash in the post. Receipts will be sent to anyone who also includes their name and address with donation and asks for a receipt. Many people prefer to donate online, using the national St. Vincent de Paul website. If you wish, you can put ‘Fethard’in the section marked 'Specific location to help', when making the online donation, and it will be sent back to us for local use.

We were delighted to be in a position to still help people over the past year and a half to alleviate some of the effects of Covid on families in need. Any person who needs our assistance this Christmas should contact any member as soon as possible. Confidentiality is guaranteed.

Last year we celebrated 125 years of continuous work in Fethard. This is only possible because of you – the community – giving us the backing that allowed us to survive. We once again say ‘thanks’ for your help, we are really grateful.
