Fethard and District Rugby Club
Fethard under 18 girls completed in their third Munster seven-a-side tournament last Saturday at Shannon. With every game this team has improved hugely and this week beat Bandon 28-0. Kora Delaney was great in the scrum and along with our scrum half Niamh Holohan they both constantly tackled and had great runs. Aishling Kelly was fantastic with her line outs to Hannah Stapleton, they both worked well rucking over and clearing out ball for Ciara O'Donnell to show her quick thinking and working with Aobh O'Shea who took the ball on passed out to Aoife Doyle to score and convert. Leah Fox scored also with a fine run and quick feet under the posts. Aideen Farrell helped on the wing and with new member Amy Tynan playing a stormed for her first games. The girls worked well together and in their second game showed another good game with Aobh O'Shea scoring a fine try from work from all the team up along up along the pitch.
Training continues for all girls from 13 years up to 18 years on Friday evenings at the Community field from 8pm to 9pm. The will be some more friendly games planned for the coming weeks with the 15-a-side tournaments commencing in January.
Fethard Minis were at home to Kilfeacle and Galbally last Sunday. The U8s had two guest players from Galbally, Jason O'Mahony and David O'Milan. Fresh from his debut try last week Michael James Phelan put in some great tackles with Tomas Ryan and Louis Ryan.
What a difference a week makes. Our U9s and U10s played teams from Galbally and Kilfeacle. The way both teams played was quiet exciting with the rucking, mauling and picking top class. Well done to both teams and see you all at training on Friday.
A tale of two weather fronts last Sunday as Galbally were first to line out against Fethard U11s in what proved an energetic and good spirited match, close at half-time, but Fethard ran away slightly in the second to come out comfortable winners. Kilfeacle blew away any cobwebs against Galbally and then faced Fethard as the rain started. Playing full U-11 rules both teams enjoyed practising new found skills. This game had few brave spectators that hung on after everyone else had slunk away to the weather-proof clubhouse. It was tackling, if anywhere, that proved the difference in the end with Fethard missing too many and Kilfeacle running in two tries towards the end of the game to come out eventual winners, 3-1. What a game, back to the drawing board for our team.
Thanks to all the families for donations of food for Sunday. Furthermore huge thanks to the ladies who very kindly and generously gave their time yet again to serve it.
