Emigrant’s Newsletter time again!
Now, as summer holiday time fades into school time, preparations are already being made for the publication of this years Emigrant’s Newsletter, printed and posted free of charge to our emigrants in time for Christmas every year.

We now invite submissions of articles and photographs for inclusion in this year’s edition. The Newsletter covers all generations of emigrants and it would be nice to see more young people submit articles. The article need not be long. It might just be a funny incident, a local character you remember, a particular event, school time or any other memory waiting to ‘pop’ out of your head.

Last week we held the first ‘Green and Barrack Street Reunion’ and it was a tremendous success. It was clearly obvious how everyone just loved chatting and reminiscing about people and times past. The popularity of the Emigrants Newsletter is for very similar reasons. People love reading stories that rekindle memories of people and places long forgotten. So please consider putting pen to paper, or voice to recorder, and submit an article for this year’s issue. Photographs are also very welcome.

Articles or photographs can be submitted to Joe Kenny, Rocklow Road, Fethard, or by email to newsletter@fethard.com

Reunion Booklet in demand!
The Green and Barrack Street Reunion took place on Saturday, August 18, where approximately 200 people mingled and reminisced about times past in The Green and Barrack Street.

The commemorative sixty-page booklet of photographs and articles published in conjunction with the event was very well received and is still in demand. Fortunately we still have some copies for sale and these can be purchased for €5 plus €3.50 post and packing worldwide.

Bunny Hop reopens on September 10
Bunny Hop music and movement for 0-4 year olds will reopen again in Fethard on Monday, September 10, at Fethard Youth Centre / Old Convent Hall from 10am to 11am. Within the hour we do a wide variety of stimulating songs with actions, musical instruments and lots more, interacting with children same or similar age. Music is a very important part of a child’s development, making them aware of different sounds, developing their memory, new skills and introducing a new environment. There is a free playtime afterwards.
All are welcome and for further information and to join us contact Nicola at 087 6742401 or visit bunnyhop.ie

Jack and Jessica Stokes at the Medieval Parade
Jack and Jessica Stokes at the Medieval Parade

This year, as in the former five years of the Medieval Festival, there were many competitions that ran alongside the main event and these all added to the fun of the day. The organisers would like to thank all the sponsors and those who supplied facilities that were used leading up to and on the weekend of the festival: O’Sullivans Pharmacy for the children’s shield workshop space, Fethard Ballroom for tables and chairs, Fethard Scouts and Niall Higgins for erecting tents, Youth Centre for showing hurling match on the big screen and Holy Trinity Church of Ireland for the use of the church and grounds over the festive period.

Special mention must go to the County Council staff and the Tidy Towns group for again having the town and especially The Valley area looking so well, especially after the biggest floods in living memory.

Children’s Art Competition
The winners of the Children’s ‘Humpty Dumpty on Fethard’s Wall’ Art Competition sponsored by Tom Hennessy Spar were:
Under 8 years: 1st Robert Keating, 2nd Rose O’Donnell, 3rd Paddy Whyte.
8 to 12 years: 1st Megan Hackett, 2nd Zoë Stokes, 3rd Lucy Whyte.
13 to 18 years: 1st Cassie Needham, 2nd Eamonn Lyons, 3rd Katie Whyte.
Some of the winners had their photos taken with Humpty Dumpty himself, which really put the seal of approval on their great endeavours. Those who did not receive their prize-money on the day should phone Catherine on 087 4102430 to organise the collection of their prize.
