€10,000 COMMUNITY LOTTO JACKPOT WON
Congratulations to Paddy Cooke, St. Patrick's Place, who won the €10,000 Fethard and Killusty Community Lotto Jackpot on Tuesday night 4th November. The winning ticket was sold by his wife Anna, who received the sellers prize of €1,000.

ICA MEETING
The next meeting of Fethard ICA Guild takes place on Monday 10th November (please note change of night). Elka Wilson from Newcastle will give a talk on Christmas celebrations in her native Germany. She will also give us some cookery tips and recipes. Catering by ‘Blue Group’. Competition theme is “The Oldest Cookery Book”. Social half hour with the ‘Red Group’.
FETHARD ATHLETIC CLUB
Last weekend eight Fethard athletes travelled to Rathgormack to compete in the uneven-age Munster cross country championships. First to toe the line was Gregory Henry who ran well to finish 16th in the boys under-11 race. Next in action were the boy’s under-13 team of Ben Walsh, Michael Costello, John Lalor and Darragh Dwyer. This team competed doggedly but were unlucky to finish outside the medals, however, Darragh Dwyer ran a great race to take an individual medal in 8th place.
In the girls under-15 event Fethard captured another individual medal as Mary Gleeson put in a very determined effort to finish in 9th position. Lastly, in the boys under-15 race, both Wane Laslett and Lolo Trehy can both be very pleased with their efforts as they finished mid-pack in what was a top class competition.
Next weekend, Sunday 9th November, the County B Championships take place in Ballynonty. All athletes who did not win medals in the County Championships are eligible to compete. Training continues on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 4.15pm in the Community Sports Field. All are welcome.

FETHARD GAA CLUB
Our intermediate hurling county quarterfinal played in Boherlahan on Sunday 2nd November resulted in another hard luck story going down by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline, Golden 0-11 (0-4), to Fethard 0-10 (0-7). The team was: Paul Fitzgerald, Michael Quinlan, Michael Ryan, Shay Ryan, Tomas Keane, Stephen O’Donnell (capt), Michael Aherne, John P Looby 0-2, P J Aherne, Jamie McCormack 0-1, Aiden Fitzgerald 0-2, Brian Coen, Colin Allen 0-3f, Miceál Spillane, Michael Dillon 0-2. Subs: Cian Maher (used), Eoin Doyle, Shane Walsh, Garreth Byrne, Philly Croke and William Harrington. Thanks to all who brought us so far this year, players and Management. Twenty-one years ago, in 1982, we played our first county quarterfinal in this grade against Golden in Boherlahan and, on the day, we lost by the same margin. Our remaining game this year is the south final replay to be played at a future date .
The senior football county league final and county junior A county semifinal fixtures are still to come up.
Our lotto jackpot of €1,600 was not won. We had one match three winner of €150, who was Patrick Kearney (Killusty). The numbers drawn at Grants Bar were, 16, 18, 20 and 23. The €50 Lucky Dip winner was Stephen O’Donnell (Monroe, Fethard).
TIPPERARY FOXHOUNDS OPENING MEET

The opening meet of the Tipperary Foxhounds was held in Fethard on Monday October 28th. The mounted field of 85 riders was perhaps down a little on recent years attendances. However, whether it was the beautiful day or what was the cause, the car followers largely outnumbered the mounted field.
There must have been in excess of 100 cars on the roads around Rocklow. A fox from the first draw on the old railway line but ran to Kilknockin Hill. The little progress hounds made up with this one did not seem to indicate a good days sport. From Mr Halley’s, hounds hunted very well to Carrigeen. Crossing the road they found in Crehanes Grove and ran a good right handed circle around the sandpits back to Rathvin and lost him at the close to Mr Alfie Brett’s.
Rocklow held a brace out a half. After some excellent covert hunting, hounds pushed one out at Rocklow Lodge, hunted him through the fort to Rathvin and back to Rocklow covers where he was left. A few more circles in the Powers Wood and Rathsallagh areas bought a most enjoyable day, while followers witnessed some excellent hound work in glorious weather to the end.
Here’s wishing Pat, James P.J. and all followers an excellent seasons sport.

Sr. Philomena O'Brien (left) photographed with her first cousin Gemma Burke at the Opening Meet of Tipperary Foxhounds. Sr. Philomena, is home on holidays from New York to celebrate her 85th birthday and she was delighted that it coincided with the Opening Meet, which she remembers from her childhood days. Originally from the Green, Sr. Philomena left Fethard at the age of 17 to join the Ursuline Order of Nuns at Long Island, New York, where she is still based today.

Our Lotto Jackpot of €1,500 was not won. We had two match threes drawn at Burkes Bar and €75 each went to Davy Lawless (Brodeen), and Mary Cummins (Hymenstown, New Inn). The €50 Lucky Dip winner was Garreth Byrne (Claremore). The Numbers Drawn were 17, 20, 21 and 24.

THE PLOUGH FOR ABYMILL
Fethard Players will stage Sean O’Casey’s, ‘The Plough and The Stars’ in the Abymill Theatre on Sunday 16th November for a six-night run. Sean O’Casey’s classic needs little introduction to Irish audiences as it has long been recognised as one of Ireland’s greatest plays. Its mixture of tragedy and comedy captures the dramatic events in Dublin during and prior to the Easter Rising of 1916.
A large cast in this production includes: Marian Gilpin, Angela Dillon Whyte, Mary O’Connell, Mia Treacy, Sarah Kennedy, Siobhán Prout, Jimmy O’Sullivan, Gerry Fogarty, Philip O’Meara, Robert O’Keeffe, Vincent Murphy, Eoin Whyte, Joe Hanley, Michael Tillyer and Eoin Powell. NAPPER VISITORS TO FETHARD
Photographed above while on a visit to Fethard to trace their Napper relatives are Mike Napper (right) and his father Myron Napper (left) from Canada. They are photographed above with Tony Newport who was delighted to see the original spelling ‘Napper’ still in use. The spelling ‘Napier’ is more frequently used in this area. This is Mike’s second time in Fethard, his first being a very brief visit some time back while he visited Guidant Clonmel on a business trip. Mike is a manager, Supplier Development Cardiac Rhythm Management, with Guidant in the USA.

FETHARD & KILLUSTY COMMUNITY COUNCIL AGM
The annual general meeting of Fethard and Killusty Community Council (Fethard & Killusty Muintir Council Ltd.) was held on Tuesday 21st October in the Tirry Community Centre, attended by Tom O'Gorman, representing O'Gorman Brannigan Purtill & Co., Accountants & Registered Auditors, Clonmel. Mr O'Gorman praised the committee for their achievements during the year and was very impressed with the keeping of accounts.
The total income for the year was €120,179, with €65,864 coming from Community Lotto ticket sales and the balance from rent, fundraising and donations. Expenditure, including Lotto prizes and administrative expenses, amounted to €61,196 leaving an operating profit of €59,573 (which includes €590 bank interest received).
The committee have now repaid outstanding loans for the purchase of the Convent Hall and the building/refurbishing of the extension to the Fethard & District Day Care Centre. The next project, now in progress, is the development of the Convent Hall.
Projects undertaken during the past year included: Fethard & Killusty Community Employment Scheme; Purchase and Erection of Christmas Lights and Tree; Participation in the Slieveardagh Tourism Project; Preparation for Fethard Development Plan 2004; Fethard & Killusty London Reunion; Fethard & District Day Care Centre; Fethard Town Wall Floodlighting; Formation of Residents Associations; Sponsorship Special Olympic Athlete; Resurfacing Car Park at Community Centre; Golf Classic at Slievenamon Golf Course; Tidy Towns Development Projects; Town Hall Consultation Work; Fethard Community Information Office; Feasibility Study Application to Tipperary Leader Group; and individual consultation committee meetings with the following guest speakers: John Devane (Tipperary Leader Group); Martin Maher (Tipperary County Library); Michael Bulfin (Tipperary Institute); Sheila Comerfort (County Childcare Committee); Stephen Fallon (Conservation Officer South Tipperary County Council); Tess Collins (Tenant Liaison Officer, South Tipperary County Council); Chris Sheehan (County Childcare Committee).
The board of directors appointed for the coming year are as follows: Joe Kenny (chairman); Jimmy Connolly (treasurer); Edwina Newport (secretary); Marie Murphy (public relations officer); Ger Manton (vice-chairman & Christmas Lighting); Peter Grant (Community Employment Scheme Coordinator); Thelma Griffith (Day Care Centre Delegate); Diana Stokes (Tidy Towns Delegate). Board Members: Liam Hayes, John Barrett; Brian Sheehy; Fr. Tom Breen; and Jimmy Lawrence. The committee would like to acknowledge the work of Joan O'Donohue, Supervisor of the Community Employment Scheme, and her staff who do excellent work on a daily basis at the Centre and in the community. Also the voluntary workers who help on an ongoing basis with the Day Care Centre; Meals on Wheels, Community Lotto and Tidy Towns. A special thank-you to Cllr John Fahey, who never fails to attend all our meetings and offer his help when needed.
FETHARD CIVIL DEFENCE
Fethard Civil Defence have now resumed their weekly meetings on Tuesday nights at 8pm in the Tirry Community Centre. If you are over 16 and would like to take part, please come along on Tuesday night or contact Rory Walsh at Tel: 086 0802782.
FETHARD RUGBY CLUB
We travelled to Thurles on Sunday morning to play in a Blitz. Our under/18's got a flying start with a great win over the home team, this was a great performance with Shane Keogh, Luke Keating, Harvey Blackmore and Josh Murray among the try scorers. It was Cashel we played next and this game was very close with Cashel taking an early lead, but the Fethard lads never gave up and won by 7 tries to 5 in the finish. Cian O'Connell, Colin Kenny, Russell Casey, Gavin Delaney and Colin Grant all played very well in this game.
We were now through to the final against Nenagh. The Fethard lads were a little nervous at first and trailed by 3 tries to 2 at half time, but they tried their hearts out and some great performances saw them win by 6 tries to four. Keith Bergin, Jass Murray and Shane Keogh having fines games. Well done to the under/8's and Fethard's first ever win in a Blitz.
The under/10s played Thurles first and were narrowly beaten by two tries. Good performances we given by David Bergin, Eoin Walsh, Shane Power and Coim Meagher. In the second game they played Cashel. This was a great game and Fethard won by one try, Luke Mulcahy and Joseph O'Brien playing well.
The under/12s tried hard in both their games but had to give best to Thurles and Cashel. Our thanks to Thurles for a great morning of fun for all.
KILLUSTY NOTES
Judo - Irish Open International (Dublin) Lorraine Wins Bronze
Lorraine Feery moved up in class when she secured an excellent Bronze Medal in this Open Judo Competition which included participants from England, Italy and Wales. Lorraine was forced to move up in weight fro this competition but this did not deter her determination to get among the medals in this her first attempt against foreign opposition. Fethard Judo Club of which Lorraine is a memebr took home five awards from this competition. Well done to all concerned.
First Division Soccer League, Killusty 5 Moyglass 2
Killusty had a good win over Moyglass in this home fixture last Sunday. It continues their good start to the season. Decaln Fanning and Jamie McCormack were among the goal scorers. Final score: Killusty 5 Moyglass 2.
Very much a local derby here with both sides putting it all in but in the end the home team were worthy winners. Hectic stuff from the start with the ball flying all ser the place and a very fast pace to the same, it took 25 minutes for the first score to arrive. Jimmy O'Meara got himself on the end of a cross from the right to put the home team ahead and ten minutes later they were two ahead when Jamie McCormack picked up a through ball to fire to the net, 2-0 at half time.
In the first ten minutes of the second half Moyglass were well on top and pulled a goal back through Ken Brown on 55 minutes. The visitors piled forward in search of the equaliser and the home team hit them on the break when a long ball was played out of the defence and Declan Fanning got on the end of it to make it 3-1 to the home team. Killusty added two more on the 75th minutes and 80th minutes through Jimmy O'Meara and Colm Coen to really sow up this game. The visitors got a consolation goal on the 88th minutes from Carl Gahan.
Youths - First Division
Killusty's bad form in the League continued with a 3-1 defeat at home to Clonmel Celtic. Joey Feery was on target for Killusty. Final score: Clonmel Celtic 3 Killusty 1.
The visitors took the lead in this game after ten minutes with a goal from Patrick O'Donnell. Five minutes after that he got a second to leave it 2-0, however the home side bounced back after twenty minutes when last year's league division two player of the year, Shane Aylward scored to leave it 2-1 at the break. The second half of the game was very close and either team could have scored but it was the visitors who got the all out winner after eighty-four minutes to leave it 3-1 at full time.

IRELAND EVENTING CHAMPIONSHIP

The initial Dressage phase saw the team in a close second position. However a strong cross-country and show jumping performance resulted in an exciting win for the Tipperary Pony Club Team over the 2002 winners from the Island Hunt branch.
Both Kate Hannigan and Jennifer Ronan were individual winners in their respective arenas.
This young team went to represent the Irish Pony Club Championships at Sansaw park. They finished in the top ten in a very strong competition with teams from all over the U.K. and Northern Ireland. Jack Halley finished a very credible seventh individually in his arena. A group of enthusiastic supporters travelled to the event and their help and encouragement was greatly appreciated.

ALICE RECEIVES €8,000
Jasper Murphy and Frank Purcell presented a cheque for €8,000 to Alice Leahy Director of TRUST helped by international best selling author Maeve Binchy and RTE's Pat Kenny - the proceeds of the Slievenamon Golf Classic in aid of TRUST. The presentation took place at the launch of book WITH TRUST IN PLACE edited and complied by Alice all of proceeds of which also go to TRUST.
SMALL WORLD
Adrian Morrissey and his new bride, Avril Colville, spent their honeymoon touring New Zealand. They were surprised during their tour to be flagged down by a passing truck which overtook their camper van on a highway outside Wellington. Their surprise turned out to be amazement when they discovered they had been hailed by Michael Byrne, a very near Killusty neighbour of the bridegroom.
When they had recovered their composure, Michael said, he recognised his old schoolmate as he passed his vehicle.
They arranged to meet in Wellington that night where they had a good natter about the ‘times and the joys’, that for these young people are certainly not gone, but just beginning, in “The Valley Near Slievenamon’ — 12,000 miles away.
BIN COLLECTION
The initial confusion over the alternate week collection of household waste wheelie bins and sacks of recyclable waste have more or less sorted itself out.
Here are some ideas of what can and cannot be included for recycling: newspapers, magazines, junk mail, waste paper, plastic bottles (lids removed and placed in clear bag), shampoo bottles, butter/spread containers, plastic drinks bottles, plastic milk bottles, yoghurt drinks and yoghurt cartons, cream containers, clothes conditioner packets, cereal boxes, plastic bags, biscuit packs, tetra packs, milk cartons, juice cartons, dog food tins, bean/pea tins, soft drinks cans, Christmas/birthday cards.
No unwashed food containers, No wet items, No glass jars or bottles, No heavy bags, No soiled kitchen paper, No ashes, No nappies, No sanitary items, No crisp packets, No sweet wrappers, No contaminated cling film, No food wrappings, No toothpaste tubes, No foil contaminated with food, No milky containers, No bric-a-brac, No builders rubble, No aerosols, No batteries and No grass cuttings.
Remember if the bag contains the wrong material, is too heavy or is wet, it will not be taken.

The Fionn Mac Cumhall Players, Cloneen are hosting a fundraising night on Saturday 1st November in Cloneen.
