Congratulations to Holy Trinity National School pupils who scooped first prize of €500 in the schools category of the national ‘Love Where You Live’ Photography Competition 2011, run by an Taisce and sponsored by Alupro Ireland.

Hourihan from Kiltinan?
I am trying to find out some information on my father’s family. My father was born on October 21, 1913, in the district of Kiltinan. My grandfather was a gardener and was working in the area. Is it possible he was working at the castle? They were both named Denis Hourihan(e).

I know they were not very long in the area. They were originally from Cork and I have traced my grandfather on the 1911 census and know they moved to Cork city when my dad was still very young. I don’t know where he was baptised.

We visited the area recently just for a look around and were told that Lisronagh church is a possibility. Is there any way I can check records? I know it’s a long shot but I would be delighted to get any information.
My email is: marymurtagh@campus.ie

Thank you in anticipation, Mary Murtagh (nee Hourihan).

Fethard Rugby Club
A wonderful morning of Rugby was had in Fethard on Sunday morning with Kilfeacle being the visiting team. The weather was on our side and what a treat to see two clubs field so many youngsters at mini-rugby. Special thanks to all the parents who helped and supplied fabulous food and refreshments during the morning’s games.

The Fethard U7s had their first game of the season and acquitted themselves very well. With eleven of the twelve players having their first ever game of rugby, a large gathering of parents supported David Lalor, Robin O'Shea, Pairic Heffernan, Mark Neville, Louis Ryan, Padraig O'Dwyer, Clodagh Foley, Padraig Duggan, Oisín Ryan, Michael James Phelan, Luke Dolan and Andrew Wall. We witnessed all the basic skills being used during the game with some great offloads and plenty of tries scored by both teams.

Our U8s have improved on last year with newcomer David McCormack ably assisting Conor Neville, James McCormack, T J Murphy, Ben Ruttle, Charlie Cummins and James Ryan. The team showed great tackling along with some good rucking resulting in some fine tries.

The U9s team consisting of Matthew Burke, Richard Robinson, Michael Scully, Conor Walsh, Craig O'Shea, Sean O'Dwyer, Eoin O'Dwyer, Max Watchman, Shane Neville, Cathal Ryan, Daniel Bourke, Oisín Smullen, Josh Rowan, Cathal Foley, Toby Collier and Robert Wall, proved a strong force in the first half with plenty of possession throughout and great offloading. Kilfeacle went into an early lead but Fethard regrouped to level the game The match ended in a draw.

Our U10s had a tough game against Kilfeacle. Great tackling from all players especially Jack Hassett, along with the passing skills of Mark McCormack, Matthew Gleeson, Owen, Lucy Murphy, Angus MacDonald and Kyle were impressive. Fine recycling of the ball from Courtney Walsh, Ian Harrington, Eva Fitzgerald, Darragh O'Connell and Ethan Cohen showed a fine grasp of the game.

The Fethard U11s game was a very exciting game to watch with great phases of play put together from both sides. This team, while young, played exceptionally well against a strong side from Kilfeacle. It was good to see such a turn out of both players and supporters, Looking forward to seeing you all at training on Friday evening at 6.45pm.

Fethard U12s played some exciting rugby and the level of support play from the side was extremely good with great passing and running and some great speed. This could be a team to watch for the season ahead!

Fethard U13s played a fine team from Waterford City and had a lot of improvement to do on last week’s match. From the very start they were determined to do just that with the first points going on the board from a good try scored by Ross McCormack which Josef O'Connor converted. Waterford City came back strong but with robust tackling from David Healy, Andrew O'Connell, Jessie McCormack and Aaron Smullen they kept them out, tagged on another try from Jack Dolan and kept Waterford City scoreless in the first half.

In the second half Fethard really grew into this game putting some good phases of play together with Frankie Meagher breaking the Waterford city gain line on several occasions which led to Jack Dolan scoring another fine try, converted by Josef O Connor again. With Fethard now in the front they took the foot off the pedal and let Waterford City in for a try. This try was quickly cancelled out by a well-worked try from the forwards which was scored by Richie Holohan. The game ended, Fethard 19, Waterford City 5. This is a good result, looking forward to seeing everyone at training on Friday evening at 6.45pm.

Our U17s played a well-schooled Clanwilliam team in their first league match which was played at home. We had a team of seventeen players and still awaiting the return of four injured players. After a poor start Fethard started to turn the tide in their favour in the second half. Cian O'Connell had an outstanding game in cleaning up dirty ball ably assisted by Ger Gorey.

Our five Ballingarry boys put in a great game for their first match, with Shane scoring a penalty and three conversions, welcome back lads. Keith Bergin controlled things at the base of the scrum with Willie Morgan and Tadgh Fogarty making good runs.

One of our newest players had a man of the match performance, Adam O'Connell, a great addition to the team scoring three tries on his debut. Well done Adam.

Going on this performance we have a strong team for the coming season. Well done boys, keep up the hard work and see ye at training on Tuesday and Friday nights.
