Presentation Tapestry - A story in Fabric
At the IPA (International Presentation Association) Assembly at Bangalore, India in 2007 the idea for this tapestry was put forward and the pieces were collected, each unit representing the life and work of the Presentation Sisters throughout the world. Sr. Julianna Purcell from Fethard agreed to put the pieces together telling their story in fabric.

Public Speaking Team Success
Congratulations to our public speaking team Julie, Edmund and Una who won the county round of the public speaking competition in Clonoulty on Saturday last. Many thanks to Martha Sheehan for all her help and advice for the team. Preparations will now begin in earnest for the national quarterfinals. Well done also to the other teams from Slievenamon, Clonoulty and Boherlahan who took part.

Fun Run
Club members are continuing to train in Clonmel on Wednesday nights for the 4K run. This is proving to be a very achievable challenge for our members. It’s helping our fitness levels as well as being a very sociable activity.

Queen of the Land
South Tipp Macra have organised a bus to go to Queen of the Land in Tullamore on Saturday, November 14th. This is always a great night out. Our Queen representative for South Tipp this year is Una Ryan from the Dundrum club.

Rathkeevin 60th Anniversary Dance
Rathkeevin Macra are holding a 60th anniversary dance in the Clonmel Park on Saturday, November 27th. The guest speaker on the night will be Mr Brian Crowley MEP. Tickets are available from any Rathkeevin club member.

New Year’s Eve Ball
The New Year’s Eve Ball was officially launched in Kilcoran on Friday, 6th November. The theme of the ball is’ Black and White’. Tickets are a recession busting €40 and are available to the public in general from club members. A mulled wine reception and raffle prizes including gym membership and a weekend away are some of the main attractions of the night. Clonmel band the ‘Pearly Whites’ will be providing entertainment on the night

Competitions
The Fethard Macra team are participating in the soccer league taking place in Clonmel on Friday evenings. The welding competition will also be taking place this week. Any clubs in South Tipp interested in finding out more details on the upcoming ‘Capers Competition’ contact Una 087 6882683.

Fethard Players end succesful run

Hunting News
From Halley’s Hill, from Knockfee, on Monday, hounds had a nice hunt on a fox viewed slipping away from the lower end. They ran towards the sandpits by the castle, turning left they crossed the road, ran left-handed again where they re-crossed the road and checked and were stopped. Hacking back to the fort by the main Cahir-Bansha road, near Knockfee, they fast held a brace. One went to ground in the big badger sett in the fort. Hounds hunted the second across Moorestown lane, left across the Cahir road they ran into serious electric fence trouble and were stopped. Drawing Knockfee wood they found and marked to ground. Moving down to the valley they had a nice run from the fort here marking him to ground. They finished the day with a similar run from the fort near Kedrah. On Monday, at the end of the day, Tipperary Whipper-in and acting Huntsman, Sam Staniland, was feeling none too well.

Unfortunately, Sam was down with a very severe dose of ‘flu on Tuesday morning. With both Derry and Sam sidelined Wednesday’s meet at Horse and Jockey was cancelled. However, once again, with the hour came the man and Pat O’Brien made a comeback to hunt the hounds at Newchapel on Thursday. Pat slipped into his old familiar role no problem. Foxes were rather scarce, all foxes in the area seemed to have been concentrated in the last draw of the day, Glenwalsh Glen near Giants Grave and across the road in the fifty acres of maize at Ballyveelish. After hunting on both sides of the road after some time with several foxes on the move hounds did eventually put one to ground in the Glen.

A monsoon-like downpour between ten and eleven o’clock on Saturday morning did not look too good for Moyglass. Fortunately conditions improved and hunting was able to go ahead with a slight change in the order of drawing. One of a brace in Fogarty’s went to ground and the other was left. The old railway line by Clonbrogan Sandpits held a brace, one of which was caught on top after a short hunt. Moving across the Arbour Hill road hounds found in Mr. Paul Kavanagh’s. They ran towards Beechmount to Ryalls, from here to McGivern’s where they marked to ground. Having drawn Cllr. John Fahey’s, Lahart’s Glen and Hassett’s blank they found at Mr. Kelly’s. Running back towards Graystown to Hassetts they swung for Buffana wood and were stopped in fast fading daylight before reaching the big covert.

With the White Heathers
Sunday’s meet in Cloneen, in contrast to last week in Drangan, provided a great days hunting. Finding in Grant’s, hounds hunted under Cloneen village crossing Kilbury lane.

Running parallel to the Mullinahone road they crossed it at Ms Kathleen O’Brien’s heading towards Kylenagranagh. Swinging left here they crossed the Cloneen-Drangan road and hunted towards Garranguile. Turning left again they were really flying crossing the Fethard – Cloneen road. Down across the Killusty Road they ran to Mr Kieran O’Shea’s bogs, near Milestone Mill, where they checked. Casting and quickly hitting off the line again they ran back to Kilbury where they marked to ground. Following two very good runs from Kilbury and the second from Rossaun, Donie moved across the road to Slattery’s. Finding here they ran to Mr. Bernard O’Hallorans on Kylenagranagh hill. Turning right-handed they ran almost to the Dublin road. Here Charlie did an about turn and ran back through Kylenagranagh to the Drangan-Cloneen road. Running parallel to the road they hunted strongly to the big glen behind Mr Mick McCormack’s. Their fox was inclined to linger here but hunting in great style they gave him little respite forcing him out at the top end from where he ran to the big plantation at Tullicussane.

Light was fast fading at this stage and with hounds still hunting strongly Donie decided to blow for home at almost five o’clock bringing a great days sport to conclusion. The Ballyluskey White Heather Harriers meet Sunday next, 15th November at Loughcopple and on Sunday 22nd at Coolbawn at 11am.

Winners in the November Ballyluskey White Heather Harriers members and friends draw, held on Tuesday 3rd November, were: 1st Prize (€200) - Conor Duggan and 2nd Prize (€100) – John Noonan.

The Rosary will be prayed in the following cemeteries in the coming weeks.
Sunday 15th November: Calvary at 3pm and Peppardstown at 3.30pm. Sunday 22nd November: Rathcoole at 2.45pm, Tullamaine at 3pm and Redcity at 3.30pm. Sunday 29th November: Killusty (after Mass), Kiltinan at 3pm and Kilmaclugh at 3.30pm.

Fethard and Killusty Community Games
Reminder to all that the AGM of Fethard and Killusty Community Games will take place on this Thursday night, 12th November in the Tirry Community Centre at 8pm. All are welcome. Please make a special effort to attend.

Youth Centre open to all second level students
Opening hours for the Youth Centre will change this weekend and open from 8pm to 10pm on Friday nights and Saturday nights. All second level students from Fethard and surrounding district are more than welcome to join. Application forms are available at the Youth Centre. Adult leaders are also welcome to come along and get involved. In the coming weeks we will have inter-club visit, table quiz and film night.

Fethard & Killusty Community Lotto
The numbers drawn on 4th November were 2, 4, 13 and 17. We had no Jackpot winner and two ‘Match 3’ winners who received €75:

Fethard GAA Club Lotto Results
This week’s GAA Sports Lotto Jackpot of €3,800 was not won. The numbers drawn were: 8, 10, 18 and 25. We had one ‘Match Three’ winner of €150 to: Patsy Lawrence (Woodvale Walk, Fethard). The €50 Lucky Dip went to Rachel Quigley (c/o Merrys Clonmel).
Last week’s drawn numbers were: 9, 11, 15 and 21. We had three ‘Match Three’ winners of €50 each to: Davy Maher (Barrack Street, Fethard); Martin Burke (Main Street, Fethard), and Chloe Burke (c/o Merrys Clonmel). The €50 Lucky Dip was won by Mike Burke (Red City, Fethard).

Patrician Presentation Secondary School Jottings

Volleyball Referee Training Course
On Monday 2nd November, a number of students from each of the volleyball squads at the school attended a Referee Training Course at Moyle Rovers GAA Complex. Under the instruction of a VAI referee’s coach from Dublin, twelve students from Patrician Presentation Fethard were joined by six students and two coaches from Dungarvan who have all begun competing in the sport at both school and club level in the last few years).

Over the course of a long day from 9.15am until just after 4:30, the students were coached in theory and rules, followed by practising their skills in matches throughout the afternoon. The day ended with a written and practical exam, the results of which will be available from VAI head office in the next week or so. The instructor on the day was very impressed with the students’ practical application of the rules and was confident that if they showed the same knowledge in the written portion all twelve from Fethard would successfully qualify as VAI registered referees. Thank you to all who took part and to Moyle Rovers GAA club for the use of their venue.

Dear Initiative
D.E.A.R = Drop Everything and Read. During the week 9th to 13th November, all staff and pupils of the school will participate in the D.E.A.R Initiative at 11am each day. All school activities will come to a halt and everyone will either read a newspaper, book or magazine. The aim of the initiative is to encourage reading as a hobby and to promote stillness and concentration.

Limerick Open Day
The fifth and sixth year students attended the Limerick open day on Wednesday 14th October. The students visited Mary Immaculate College Limerick, Limerick Institute of Technology and University of Limerick. The students attended talks on courses, toured the colleges and met lecturers and tutors. The trip was organised by Mr O’Brian, Career Guidance Teacher and Mr Leonard, L.C.V.P Co-ordinator.

Careers Talk
A series of career talks commenced on Friday 16th October when Anne McBride of Tipperary Institute gave a very interesting presentation to Sixth Year students on the level 6, 7 and 8 courses on offer at the Institute’s two campuses in Thurles and Clonmel.

Author in Residence Initiative
Local author, Grace Wells, visited the school on Wednesday 4th November to begin some workshops on creative writing with 3rd Year students. The first session resulted in each student composing a poem about themselves, beginning “I am from . . .” This was an interesting and enjoyable experience for all the students involved.

Table Quiz
The parents association will hold a table quiz in the Secondary School Hall on Monday 16th November at 8.30pm. A table of four will cost €28 (students €5 each). Wonderful raffle prizes to be won. Refreshments will be served by the Parents Association. Pupils and their parents, past pupils and their friends are cordially invited.

Log On, Learn
The Transition Year under the guidance of their teacher, Mr Justin McGree, have already embarked on a training programme in preparation for the ‘Log On, Learn Initiative’. This is a simple and user-friendly method devised to engage our older population in computer training, using the principles of the on-to-one method. The program is designed to ‘buddy up’ a participating transition year student tutor with an older person from their local community, so each shares their skills.

In eight weekly training sessions (starting in mid- November), which will take place initially in the school’s computer room, the student tutor shares knowledge of how to use a PC and mouse, basic word processing and internet confidence to overcome the ‘fear factor’ surrounding new technologies. The older person shares their ability to relate and communicate; memories of the past and their life experience.

Open Evening Preliminary Notice
The School’s Open Evening will take place on Monday 30th November from 7pm to 8pm. All 5th and 6th Class pupils are invited to attend with their parents. Further details will be given later.

Died Recently
The death has occurred on Monday 9th November of Mr Jackie Aylward, Roebucksland, Fethard. Reposing at McCarthy's Funeral Parlour from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday 10th November. Removal to Sacred Heart Church, Killusty, for 8pm.

Funeral Mass at 11am on Wednesday followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
