FETHARD ATHLETIC CLUB
The venue for the all Ireland inter-counties cross-country championships last weekend was Donoughmore, Co. Cork. Ten athletes from Fethard had qualified to compete in this event but unfortunately, due to an administration error outside the club’s control, only six runners were allocated numbers on the official start list. This meant huge disappointment for our boy’s u/13 team who were the bronze medallists at the Munster championships. Nevertheless, our remaining athletes performed admirably on the big stage to bring home a total of four national cross-country medals. In the boys under 11 event, John Lalor had a fine race to finish in 17th place. John’s run was pivotal in ensuring that Tipperary won 21 medals in the boy’s under 13 race . Fethard’s Shane Gorey had no small part to play in this success with an excellent 23rd placing. The talented Mary Gleeson produced another storming run when she finished 12th in the girls under 13 race. This performance merited her winning a much-coveted individual medal while also scoring on the Munster team, who were silver medallists in the inter-provincial competition. Hannah Trehy (69th girls u/11), Darragh Dwyer (60th boys u/13) and David Sullivan (26th boys u/17). All had fine runs and were unfortunate to be out of the medals. The clubs next race is the even aged National cross-county finals, to be held in Navan, Co. Meath on Sunday 8th December. Qualifiers: Boys u/12: - Darragh Dwyer, John Lalor, Ben Walsh, Kevin Quigley and Conor Prendergast. Girls u/14 Mary Gleeson and Elaine Kennedy.

NO TEAM
Fethard failed to field a senior football team at Annercarthy on Saturday last for their County Tipp S.H. league game against the home club. Twelve players in total turned up and Fethard were forced to concede a walk-over.
While Fethard have their section of the league won, and Saturday’s result was of no significance to the club, nevertheless it was no great reflection on a club with the tradition of Fethard that they could not field a senior football team in an official competition.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS APPEAL

The quotation received for the erection of this year's lights is €16,270 and a further €2,925 to erect and provide permanent power boxes along the street to connect to the ESB. Most of the expense this year is only once-off and with the support of the Community Council, local businesses and fundraising, the committee are confident on going ahead with the plan for this year. To start the fundraising, the pupils of Patrician Presentation Secondary School art class have prepared 'Christmas Lights Donation Boxes' which will be available in local shops. We ask for your support ‘Buying a Bulb’ by putting the equivalent amount in the boxes provided in the local shops.

WELL-DONE MARIE
Mrs Marie Taylor Saucestown a postgraduate student on Historical Geography at University of Limerick gave a most informative and interesting lecture at the Abymill on Monday November 18th.
The subject of Marie’s lecture was the formation of the present Fethard parish from the old civil parishes. Of particular interest were the older names of some of the long established towns lands. Not to many were aware for example that Redcity was formerly known as Kilmagog. This is another example of the connection between the Fethard area and St. Molaig. We also have Kilmalclogh and Bohermalogue the road of St. Molaig at Coolbawn.
Marie’s talk showed she had researched her subject thoroughly and is to be complimented on the very concise and interesting manner in which she presented her talk. What a pity that interesting items such as this are not included on the curriculum of local schools.

FETHARD YOUTH CLUB

Saturday 23rd November saw Fethard hosting what was a really wonderful evening of great entertainment and laughter, when clubs from Cappamore, Thurles, Tipperary Town, Cashel, Oola, Annacarty and Fethard competed in the Annual Regional Variety Show.
There were a variety of acts and Fethard did their club proud winning one and coming second twice out of approximately 45 acts. Fintan Maher won with his Solo Instrumental act and with Ashley McCormack, Sara Kennedy, Tracy Coady, Helen Frewen, Samantha Sheehan, John Hannigan, Philip Ryan, Fintan Maher, Tom Gilpin, Chris Whyte and Kyle O'Donnell doing a version of Summer Nights, they scooped 2nd prize in the Group Singing section. The girls, comprising of Ashley McCormack, Sara Kennedy and Tracy Coady did their club proud once again and won 2nd prize in the disco dancing section. Well done to all our entrants.
It was a good night for all clubs concerned and once again Fethard were complimented on the good behaviour and good spirit amongst their members. There was a friendly atmosphere amongst all the clubs with each club cheering and clapping each other on and with 150-170 entrants competing there was a great amount of cheering and clapping done. A good night was had by all.

A big thank you to Mary Shanahan and James Connolly for coming down on the night to give a hand. The Club would also like to thank the Ballroom Committee for their help on the night and running the shop. Thank you.
New leaders are urgently required and if you have 2 hours to spare any Saturday night we would be delighted to see you, so coming along down any night 7.10pm - 9.10pm to see what it is all about.

FETHARD RUGBY CLUB
Fethard played Cashel in a friendly on Saturday last. The under 8’s having to direct into two teams of eight, to accommodate them, making sure they all get a game. Both teams running out winners in not perfect conditions. The under 10’s again played a strong Cashel team in wet conditions again, in what was a tough game. Score: 3-3. Try scorers, Paul Mackey, William Power and Daniel Hickey.
The under 12’s beat Cashel 3 tries to 1, which with a good result, Fethard having a number of regulars missing. Try scorers: William Grassick, Gavin Yates, Pa Holohan.
Next Sunday Fethard will travel to Waterpark, where the under 13’s will be making their debut with the other teams. Bus will leave 9.45 am from outside A.I.B. We are also holding a table quiz in Grant’s on Thursday 28th. Tables of 4 for €20 and all are welcome.

FETHARD GAA CLUB
We failed to fulfill our senior football county league game against Annacarty on Saturday last due to a shortage of senior players, hence a loss of points for us.
A Mass for all deceased players and members takes place on this Friday 29th November in Holy Trinity Parish church, Fethard at 7.00 pm. All are very welcome .
The A.G.M. of the club takes place on Sunday 29th December. More details later.
The South Board A.G.M takes place on Sunday 6th December. The club would like to wish Miceál McCormack the very best of luck in his bid for chairman. The last Fethard man to be elected chairman was John Keating in 1955. Miceál, who has for 40 years been actively involved in the club as player, selector, physio, secretary (9 years) and chairman (3 years), is most experienced in matters involving GAA affairs and would be very highly recommended for the position. Best of luck.
The lotto jackpot of €6,400 was not won. Two match threes win €75 each, Moira Morrissey (Tullamaine), and Valerie Melinn (Dublin). Lucky dip winner: €50 to Michael Lyons (71 Woodvale Walk).
Our deepest sympathies are at this time with Gus Kenrick’s family, on their recent bereavement.
