It was with enormous pleasure that we at Clonacody House were able to host a barbecue for all our neighbours and friends last Friday night. We had in the past year opened Clonacody House as a venue for private hire and accommodation and this was the first opportunity that we had of entertaining our friends and neighbours who have supported us over the years and some in particular who have played a huge part in our lives.

So far all of our business has come as a direct result of friends and neighbours spreading the word and by having the get together last Friday was a small gesture on our part to thank all of them. We were delighted that although it was a bit chilly the rain stayed away and up to 150 people arrived. Eamon O'Dwyer of Tipp FM, coerced by Waltie Moloney, came along and recorded an episode of 'Down Your Way', which will be broadcast on Tipp FM this Thursday night.

A Poem was read by Tom Acheson, and an emotional version of Grace was sung by John Carroll, together with our local and much loved music preformed by the 'Pheasant Pluckers', Joe Carroll (Killenaule), Tony Doran, Johnny B, and Pat 'Festy' Kerwick who ended the show with a rousing performance of Slievenamon.

Our sincere thanks for all who were able to make it a special evening here at Clonacody House and we hope to be able to host another in the near future.

Every Sunday night hundreds of social dancers from far and wide travel to enjoy the facilities at Fethard's 'Ballroom of Romance' and enjoy a great night's dancing. Fethard Ballroom reopened on St. Patrick's night 1993 and has enjoyed 18 years of considerable success since as the ideal venue for social dancing in the area.

The committee are to be congratulated for their efforts, not alone in keeping the hall and dance floor in pristine condition, but also for their fundraising events such as the Annual Mick Ahearn Perpetual Dance Competition which this year raised €1,475 for South Tipperary Hospice. The late Mick Ahearn, Prospect, after whom the trophy is named, was a former chairman of Fethard Ballroom Ltd. Well done to all concerned.

For those of you who enjoy a dance or two, who not come along to the Ballroom on any Sunday night from 9pm to 12pm. Dancing suitable for all and all are welcome.

On Saturday, July 9, there will be a Boxing Night Fundraiser in aid of Fethard Community Sportsfield. Up to ten matches will take place on the night. The boxers are not professional: they are from all walks of life in our locality - publicans, students, vets, shopkeepers, and even an elected representative from the world of politics!

They are giving an enormous amount of their time to train properly for this event, which will hopefully raise funds needed to continue developments at Fethard's Community Sportsfield. Please come along and show your support. A fun-filled night is in store!

Fethard GAA Club News
The Premier 12 hurling team took on St. Patrick's in Fethard last Friday night, June 17. Playing with very limited numbers, Fethard were unable to score on this occasion. We hope to find more players to join before our next fixture, but we are delighted to welcome are first two girls on our Premier 12 hurling panel, Katie O'Flynn and Amy Brophy. We invite more boys and girls to join our panel.

The U10 South Football Tournament 2011 on Saturday saw our team take on other clubs in the South for the first time in a number of years. Up to this year, we were unable to field a full panel. Fethard, being placed in Group 2, took on Clonmel Óg, Kilsheelan, Grangemockler, Ballyporeen and Ballybacon.

We may not have won our games. But one thing stood out most was the pride in our Fethard players going onto the field to play, giving it their all throughout each of the games, with the encouragement of the supporters and mentors. The weather was atrocious and yet they played on, dripping wet for some matches, and with no complaining or back-chat to their mentors or opposition.

We have come up through the ranks and our players wear their parish club jersey with serious pride and a want to represent it to the best of their ability. True Fethard GAA spirit witnessed and long may it last. Well done to all that took part and a big thanks to all who stayed on to support the club at this blitz.

Training times for week ending, June 26: Mini GAA on Wednesday, hurling for U8/U10 at 6.15pm until 7.15pm; Saturday at 11am for U6/U10 football; U8 hurling blitz in Cloneen (St. Patricks) on Saturday 25th at 11am; U12 hurling on Wednesday at 6.15pm (coach is P.J. Aherne); there will be no U14 hurling training this week. U16 football training on Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm sharp. Senior football training on Monday at 7pm and a challenge game against Arravale Rovers in Tipperary Town on Wednesday at 7.30pm. Junior A on Monday at 7pm.

Cúl Camp registration went very well. We only have a couple of places left so if you want to guarantee a place you will need to contact Ann Fleming on 086 8963925 by Sunday, June 26. Unfortunately after this date registration will be closed.

Business and Tourism Group
The next meeting of Fethard Business and Tourism Group will take place on Monday next, June 27, at the earlier time of 8pm in the Tirry Community Centre.

It is envisaged that any improvement in commercial activity will generate tourism benefit for the town and, likewise, that an increase in visitors and tourists will have a positive, knock-on effect on both existing and potential new businesses. Hence the move to combine a Tourism Group with the Business Association.

The last meeting was very well attended with representatives from local businesses and tourism event providers. The meeting was facilitated by Catherine Corcoran, Tipperary Institute, and also attended by Pat Holland, Community and Enterprise Administrative Officer at South Tipperary County Council, and Anthony Fitzgerald, Business Development Executive at South Tipperary County Development Board, and Cllr John Fahey.

South Tipperary Enterprise Board has agreed to provide training on Social Networking Sites (Facebook; Twitter; Linked-In) for interested business owners. Further details will be available and names will be taken on Monday night. If you would like to become involved in the new Business Association and Tourism Group feel free to come to the meeting, June 27, at 8pm, Tirry Centre or contact business@fethard.com
