History was made last Sunday when Fethard’s ‘Gaelic4Mothers’ took to the field in Croke Park to take on Clonakilty in an exhibition game. After marching onto the field behind the Artane Boys Band the game quickly commenced. Following some fine scores from Kay Cummins and Tracey Lawrence victory was ours on a scoreline of 0-2 to 0-0.

Well done to all our supporters who travelled to Dublin on the day and help make it an occasion that these ladies will never forget. Our appreciation goes to Maureen, who had everything organised to perfection on the day, and to the ‘three Toms’, well done on a great achievement with this group of athletic ladies.

To all our Gaelic4Mothers, this was your day and well done to you all. Finally the club would like to thank Tom Hennessy from Spar, Colville and Hunt, Clonmel Glass and Mirrors, Martin Coen and Bob Fitzgeralds for all your generous donations that help keep us on the road. The club can’t thank you enough.

We now look forward to National G4Ms blitz which takes place in Portmarnock on Saturday, October 16. Another great day to look forward to.

Our sponsored walk up Slievenamon takes place this Sunday, October 3, at 1 pm. All are welcome to join us on the day and sponsorship cards should be returned by next Friday, October 1.

Our u-10 girls played their first competitive game in Fethard last Saturday against St. Patricks and, following a very exciting game, finished in a draw on the scoreline, 3-4 to 3-4. Well done girls and keep the future bright.

Janneke and Bert Van Dommelen photographed celebrating their joint 60th Birthday with friends in Fethard last weekend.

Congratulations to Janneke and Bert Van Dommelen who celebrated their joint 60th birthday last weekend with friends in McCarthy’s restaurant, Fethard. The very popular couple moved to Fethard from Holland in 2002 and have since been very active as voluntary workers in both Fethard and Cloneen communities.

Bert has been a journalist for more than 30 years. He worked for various Dutch newspapers. Bert is also a keen guitarist and plays traditional Irish music with the Slievenamon Hillbillies.

Janneke worked as a professional photographer since 1992 and in March 2004 started her own photo studio in Clonmel, called SpotOn Photos. Janneke is now based in Burke Street, Fethard, where she offers a full photographic service including studio portraits and weddings. We wish them both a very happy 60th birthday.

Fethard GAA News
Fethard Intermediate Hurlers put up a great display on Sunday last in Boherlahan going down in the county quarter-final by only a goal scored in the final few minutes to North champions, Shannon Rovers, on a score line, Fethard 0-14, Shannon Rover 1-14. The teams were level at 0-8 each at the break so it was nip and tuck all the way until the only goal of the game was scored.

Fethard team: J.P. McGrath, Peter Gough, Mickey Aherne, Aaron Conran, Miceál Spillane, Shane Walsh, Aiden Lonergan, Eoin O’Connell, John Leahy, Tomas Keane, Jamie McCormack, Declan Doyle, Eoin Doyle, Colin Allen, John Paul Looby. Subs were: Kenneth O’Donnell and Alan Bourke.

The Club would like to thank all who helped on last Sunday and during the year as this brings the curtain down on the club’s adult competition for 2010.

Club Draw Results: 1st Niall Madden (Kildare) €1500, ticket seller was Ciaran Treacy €200; 2nd John Walsh (Coolmoyne) €500. The club would like to thank all the sellers who worked so hard and all those who supported our draw.

The numbers drawn in last week’s lotto were 4, 5, 10 and 11. We had one match three winner of €150 to Michael Quinlan (Tullamaine, Fethard). The €50 Lucky Dip went to Martin Bolger (Drumdeel, Fethard).

This week’s Lotto Jackpot €4,200 was not won. The numbers drawn were 12, 27, 28 and 32. We had no match three winner so the following drawn tickets won €30 each: Philly Kenny (The Green, Fethard); Mary Godfrey (Derryluskin, Fethard); Jimmy Connolly (Post Office, Fethard); Margaret Lyons (Grangemockler); and T.J. Sheehan (Killusty, Fethard). The €50 Lucky Dip went to T.J. Sheehan (Killusty, Fethard). We thank AIB, Main Street, Fethard, for providing the tickets.

On this coming Sunday, October 3, a once in a lifetime event will take place in Killusty – that’s the day we will celebrate the centenary of our beautiful little national school at the foot of Slievenamon.
The centenary celebrations will begin with Mass and a play performed by the pupils of the school, in Sacred Heart Church Killusty at 12 noon then it’s over to the school for refreshments and a trip down memory lane. We are hoping that as many ex-pupils as possible will return for this special event.

This is a great opportunity to reunite old friends and classmates, to share stories and memories, and who knows, we might even have a bit of music song and dance. If anyone has any school photos or memorabilia please bring them along.
