Pictured here are some of the official 'Harry Barry Stag Group' that travelled to Edinburgh during the recent St. Patrick's weekend. Harry (known to his Tullamaine family as Noel!) is due to be married to the lovely Pauline in October.

The official story of the 'Harry Barry Stag' Scottish weekend away is that it was a mild and uneventful affair, but those who travelled, and only those who travelled, know the full story. Suffice to say that all charges were dropped due to lack of evidence! All members of the group returned home safely and relatively unscathed after the event. Enough said! We wish Harry and Pauline all the best for their forthcoming nuptials!

Fethard Macra news
Last Sunday, March 27, our Fethard team took part in the national Macra basketball finals in the University of Limerick, sadly the lads didn't qualify out of their group, after losing all four of their twelve minute matches on the day. Well done to Liam Cleary who was our top scorer.

Last weekend's drama semifinals were very well received in our wonderful venue, the Abymill theatre. The six one-act plays staged over the two nights were of a very high standard. Unfortunately Fethard's production, 'One Man Down', was not selected by the judge to progress on to the national drama finals. Our cast of five gave their all and the play was greeted with great laughter at times by the audience although there was also a lot of serious content to the play. Well done to our actors; Michael Moclair, David Ryan, Leah MacNamara, Fiona Shanahan and Pat O'Dwyer on a job well done, also to our producer Michael Manley and the back stage crew. The club and cast would like to thank all those in Fethard who helped in any way with their production especially the Abymill theatre board and the Fethard ICA for use of their respective facilities.

For all those looking for a great night's craic, Cloneen Sports and Social Club is the place to be on Holy Thursday night, April 21. Fethard Macra hold their Easter dance with music provided by the 'Loose Canons', tickets are a recession busting €10 and available from all Fethard Macra members. A great night is guaranteed.

All of our members offer Una Shanahan their congratulations on her recent engagement to her fiancé, Martin. Una is a stalwart member of the club and we wish herself and Martin all the best. They will be married later this year.

For more information or to become a member of Fethard Macra phone our chairperson, David on 087 9454384

Tidy Towns AGM
The AGM of Fethard Tidy Towns will take place on Tuesday, April 5, in the Tirry Community Centre at 8pm. Cleaning and litter picking will begin on Wednesday, April 6, and will also take place on Sunday mornings at 9am.

We have chosen Wednesday, April 13, as our date for participating in 'National Spring Clean Week' activities in Fethard. National Spring Clean is Ireland's most popular, well-recognised and successful anti-litter initiative. Now in its 13th year, the campaign encourages every sector of society to actively participate and take responsibility for litter, by actually conducting clean-ups in their own local environment. National Spring Clean traditionally takes place throughout the month of April. New members are very welcome to join us at any stage.

Fethard GAA Club News
It was a mixed weekend on the playing field for football as our seniors were defeated by Kilsheelan in the South Championship on Saturday, and our minors recorded a win in their opening game against Killenaule on Sunday in Cloneen.

The senior game was never going to be an easy one and Kilsheelan opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a point, followed a minute later with a point from a free. Fethard's Eoin Fitzgerald took a great score from 30 yards to open the Fethard account in the 9th min. Kilsheelan picked another point from a converted free on 11mins. Fethard responded with a Brian Coen free, which he converted himself. Michael Dillon added a point in the 14th min to even things at 3 points apiece.

Alan O'Connor added another point, but Kilsheelan responded with 3 points in a row before Fethard fought back with a score from Declan Doyle in the 27min. Kilsheelan had one more successful attack before Brian Coen kicked a superb score from 30 yards leaving the half-time score, 0-07 to 0-06 in favour of Kilsheelan.

Fethard replaced P.J. Morrissey with Jason Nevin to start the second half. Fethard had a good chance in the 10th min, when Brian Coen hit the crossbar leaving Kenneth O'Donnell to score a point from the rebound. The score was 0-11 to 0-08 with about 10 minutes left when Fethard dug deep and Brian Coen scored two frees, leaving the Fethard supporters with hope of a comeback. Kilsheelan had other ideas and got their last score of the day. Michael Dillon's goal chance hit the upright and Fethard's last score was a point. Kilsheelan left with a 1 point win, 0-12 to 0-11. Fethard have six games left and qualification for the knockout stages is very much alive.

Team: P. Fitzgerald, S. Aylward, M. Ahearne, G. Fitzgerald, P. Gough, C. Sheehan, J. O'Halloran, C. Maher, M. Dillon, A. O'Connor, B. Coen, E. Fitzgerald, D. Doyle, P.J. Morrissey, and K. O'Donnell. Subs used: J. Nevin, E. Delahunty, D. Fitzgerald.

The Minor footballers opened their campaign against Killenaule with Ciarán O'Meara getting things underway in the 4th min. Killenaule responded with 2 points before Cathal Hurley got another for Fethard. Ciarán O'Meara clocked another point on 13 minutes, but Killenaule were not found wanting and scored a goal. Fethard kicked three points in a row to restore their advantage.  Killenaule got a point to leave things tied at 0-06 to 1-3 at half time.

The second half started with a bang, as Fethard scored three goals in the opening five minutes. Killenaule managed a point in the 6th minute and this was their last score of the game as Fethard went on a ruthless scoring run for the remainder leaving the final score at 5-12 to 1-04. This was a solid performance from the Fethard minors, but it will take a lot more hard work if they are to win honours in this tough championship.

Team was: R. Fitzgerald, G. Maher, E. Dillon, G. Gorey, J. Devaney, D. Fitzgerald, K. Walsh, F. O'Donovan, E. Delahunty, C. O'Meara, E. Fitzgerald, T. Sheehan, D. Butler, C. Hurley and B. Healy. Subs used: M. Smyth, T. Anglim, W. Morgan and N. Doocey.

Our Premier 12s had a challenge match with Rosegreen on Sunday, March 27. Thanks to Paddy Cooney who refereed the game for us. Our U8s had their G&D football blitz in Mullinahone on Saturday 26, and all the children played very well.

Currently on the Tipperary juvenile panel from Fethard are Kyle Walsh, Tommy Anglim, David Hayes, Brian Healy and Dion Butler.

On Sunday last Fethard U12s were invited to Kilfeacle to take part in the inaugural Johnny Woods Cup, in what can only be described as a runaway success with six teams taking part. The coaches would like to thank Jason and his team of organisers for a great day.

Our first match against Kilfeacle was a good game with Kilfeacle winning by one try. One might say the whistle came just in time for Kilfeacle. Our second game against Cashel was a very fast free-flowing game with both sides playing very attractive rugby. The two sides finished level at 2 tries each, with Fethard unable to make the numerical advantage count when the Cashel side lost a player through injury.

Our last match was the plate final against Kilfeacle B which finished with a very low score of 2 tries to 1 in favour of the home side. The Fethard side battled right to the end and were very unlucky not to level the match right on the stroke of full time.

Congratulations to Ross McCormack who was selected as the player of the tournament and received a fine trophy. Well done Ross from all the coaches and players. The Fethard team were: Jack Grace, Harry Butler, Ned Grogan, Ross McCormack, Jesse McCormack, Aaron Smullen, Andrew O'Connell, Patrick Scully, Mark Heffernan, Josef O'Connor, Dara Harcourt and Jack Kealy.

Fethard U8s travelled away to Waterford City last Sunday to play a series of games against Waterford City and Carrick-On-Suir. The dry weather brought plenty of supporters who were treated to great games of rugby throughout. The Fethard boys put their skills into practice with consistent tackling from Joshua Rowan and Michael Scully producing great tries. Ben Ruttle worked well with Aidan Fitzgerald in robbing balls to help Eoin O'Dwyer and T. J Murphy who tackled well throughout and the four succeeded in scoring a good few tries.

Sean O'Dwyer and Michael Long upped their games and proved too strong at times for the opposition. Connor Walsh was consistent throughout in recycling the ball and driving the game on. Aaron Denny, Michael Ryan, James Ryan and Charlie Cummins ably assisted the team with their hard work in all skills. Well done boys. It is also great to have James McCormack back playing with great gusto tackling. See you all at training on Friday.
