Hunting News
Moving off towards Killusty from Loughcopple, on Monday, hounds found on the hill at Carrigeen. Running through Ballynaclera to Tullow they wheeled towards the Deerpark and ran back to where they found. From the Quarry in Barry Walsh’s they hunted down to the Blackthorn’s near Tony Slattery’s back under the road at College to PF Quirke’s, down to Morgan’s and back to Quirke’s to ground. Following a short run from Lalor’s, Rathcanty, down to the bridge at Annesfort, where they lost him, they drew Baptistgrange Graveyard. Here they found in a most unusual spot in the ivy on the ruined gable of the old Church. Charlie was loathe to leave so whipper-in Sam, like the sailors of old, was obliged to climb aloft. Charlie was still slow to shift but eventually, from the top of the ruin, he was forced to abandon ship. He provided a nice run back to Barry Walsh’s through to Grangebeg and to ground.

Wednesday at Delaney’s Cross proved to be a blank day with not a fox to be found. They did not find from D’Arcy’s Cross on Thursday until reaching Castleblake, crossing the Cashel – Clonmel Road they hunted down through Ballydoyle to Mulcahy’s. From the Kennel’s they ran a circle on very patchy scent back to the big plantation. Crossing the road to Coolmore (Holloway’s) they ran across the Fethard – Barrettstown Cross Road, towards Prospect. Left-handed towards Tullamaine to Burke’s they re-crossed the road to Hunt’s and back towards Prospect where they lost him.

A field of fifty riders turned out for the Killenaule meet on Saturday 12th December. One of a brace from The Glen was headed three times when attempting to cross the road to Springhill and was left. Springhill was blank. From Feehan’s they ran down to Richard McCormack’s at Dunguib where they caught him on top. Lahart’s held and hounds hunted through Cllr. John Fahey’s and back right-handed to the large Dunguib plantation. From the Old Railway line by Buffana they hunted through Graystown to Burnchurch and left-handed back to Hassett’s where they marked to ground.

With the White Heathers
A large crowd turned out for the Ballyluskey White Heather Harriers meet at Rocklow on Sunday. Thanks to John and Susan Halley for the reception and refreshments at Rathvin House, prior to move-off. A good afternoon’s hunting was enjoyed. However, poor scenting conditions and a good supply, sometimes too good, of foxes did not help matters. Hounds were kept on the go all the time through Rathvin, Rocklow, Ballybough, McCarthy’s Bog and Monroe. They finished a long days hunting from behind the Equine Hospital, at Strylea, down across the Moyglass – Fethard Road, across the river to the Old Railway Line behind Londis, Kerry Street. They ran from here through Brodeen to Redcity where Donie blew from home at 4.30pm. Next Sunday the White Heathers meet at Peppardstown House and on St. Stephen’s Day at Drangan, both meets at 11am.
The results of the White Heather Harriers members and friends draw for December are as follows: First Prize (€200) - Bernie Clancy, Magoury and London, and Second Prize (€100) – John Kenrick, Deansgrove, Cashel.

Second ‘gold’ for Jack in seven days!
For the second week in a row all ‘boxing’ roads led back to Wexford for the league finals, hosted by Enniscorthy Boxing Club on Sunday 13th December. Teams from all over Munster took part in this very prestigious open competition.

Yet again Fethard’s Jack Connolly of Clonmel Boxing Club, put in a flawless display to pick up his second gold medal in a week, to be crowned Wexford Open League Champion 2009 at 57kgs. Jacks opponent was Irish Champion Tom Stevenson of St Michaels Boxing Club in Wexford. A hard fought first two rounds, but Jack kept the skill and experience to pull away in the third and final round.
Again, Stevenson who had nearly 4kgs on Jack, could not handle the Tipperary boxer who won on a unanimous decision from all 3 Judges. Wexford is getting to be a happy hunting ground for Jack, who has added yet another title, to the many titles and honours already won this year. Again well done Jack on another brilliant performance and best wishes for the 2010 season.

Fethard Rugby Club News
Our under 15s travelled to Clonmel for a league game and maintained their unbeaten record this season overcoming Clonmel by 31 points to 0. This was by no means an easy victory as Clonmel were camped on the Fethard try line for the first quarter, and the bigger Clonmel lads threw everything at Fethard, our two props Joey Purtill and Luke Keating were immense at this stage and continuously won turnover ball and claimed any dirty ball with the determination of terriers. The back row of Ger Gorey, Jack McCarthy and Tommy Anglim gave an exhibition of tackling which denied Clonmel scores in the opening quarter. Fethard eventually rucked up field with Shane Cleere and Thomas McGabháin constantly breaking the gain line before releasing the ball to the backs who set up Jack McCarthy for Fethard’s first try, converted by Joss Murray. Fethard claimed the ball from the kick off and the backs put some scintillating moves together to release Kyle Walsh for Fethard’s second try, again converted by Joss Murray.
Clonmel began the second half very strongly but Fethard as a team were firing on all cylinders, with Cian O'Connell having a great game in scrum half and Kyle Walsh at out half making all the right decisions, there was not way back for Clonmel. Fethard pushed on and a great team movement involving Paul Butler and Tadhg Fogarty released Kieran White for his first try in the corner. Fethard were now dominating every area of the field, the line out being particularly effective thanks in the main to exceptional work by Cathal O'Donnell finding his jumpers with a consistency that Jerry Flannery would envy. William Ryan back after an absence of a few years scored his first try which was again converted by Joss Murray, Adam Fitzgerald came on a contributed well.

Fethard's Youth Club will host a Christmas Party for Rugby Mini's on Friday night next.

Christmas Party — only a limited number of tickets remain, don’t be disappointed, book them now from any committee member. DJ for the night is Ian O'Connor of Tipp FM. Eileen Condon from Newcastle will cater for the extensive banquet included in ticket price. A great night is in store.
