The cast and crew of the film 'Stella Days' finished filming in Fethard last Friday. Before they left, they expressed their gratitude to the people of Fethard for being so generous in accommodating them while recording the film. Jackie Larkin, one of the Producers of the film from Newgrange Pictures, commented that they had never been so well received in any town, with people going out of their way to help the crew.

It was quite a revelation to see how a film is made. The hours are long. Most of the crew rose at six each morning to be on set at seven. They then worked through to seven at night. The days could be tedious, taking and re-taking shots from different angles until they got it right. This production process is a far cry from the glamour of the awards ceremonies that one generally associates with the movies.

It was a novelty to see the faces that we normally see on the silver screen or on the television wandering up and down the streets in Fethard.

It was also nice to hear both cast and crew say that had they known that they would like Fethard so much, they would have sourced more accommodation in town (as some of them did). Some have already brought their families to visit and many others plan to return.

Anne Doorley, sister of Michael Doorley who wrote the book 'Stella Days', came with her friends from Borrisokane (where the book was based on) to see the final scenes being shot in Fethard on Friday last. She said, "We're sorry it couldn't be filmed in Borrisokane, but Fethard is a great location. We've had a great day and were so welcomed by everyone here in Fethard."

Anne was also accompanied by her friend, Seanie Parker, who attended the opening of the original Stella Cinema in Borrisokane. His father built the balcony and Seanie remembers handing him the nails!
Director Thaddeus O'Sullivan called in to McCarthy's before they left town on Friday night and promised that he would return to Fethard for a special screening of the film upon its release. We look forward to that night!

St. Vincent de Paul will hold their annual Church Gate Collection this weekend at all masses. Nobody needs reminding of how hard things are economically at the moment. However, we would ask people to continue to support our work as in the past.

We are an active caring conference. We try to help everybody who comes to us and any money donated to us is used prudently and effectively.

If there are people not be around on the weekend and still want to donate to us they can do so by sending donation to The Treasurer, St. Vincent de Paul, Fethard. All donations will be acknowledged.

Sean Tyrrell to play at Crocanoir
Crocanoir, set at the foot of Slievenamon on the way to Mullinahone, will host folk-singer Sean Tyrrell, on Thursday, December 9th, for what promises to be another great night's entertainment at this unique venue. John and Monika have cultivated Crocanoir as an ideal music venue where 'under the mountain sessions' are really taking off.
Sean Tyrrell accompanies himself on several instruments, and his singing style is authentic and expressive. He is known for composing music for poetry. His sound combines traditional Irish music with contemporary influences. His unique voice and the musical accompaniment are memorable - the melodies unusual and the instrumentation complex and haunting, perhaps reflecting the Galway musical tradition.

Tickets available from John & Monika at (052) 9153117 or 086 8907329. To learn more about Crocanoir - check out their website at www.crocanoir.com

The Ballyluskey White Heather Harriers got the day off to an excellent start on Sunday last being entertained by Laurence and Rosina Kenny at their residence. The foxes were not, however, in such an obliging mood being rather difficult to find.

There was a surprisingly large turn-out for the meet considering phones were ringing all morning enquiring if hunting had been cancelled or not.

Drawing down from Saucestown Bridge through Rices, Everardsgrange and Farranshea hounds found eventaully in Byrnes Rock. They hunted a nice circle through Byrneskill and Ballinard to the Cloneen Road and back to the Sawmill where they checked.

Casting left Donie brought hounds back to the fort where they found the line once more. Charlie ran almost the same circle again, hounds losing him at Addishes at the Cloneen road. More than likely he had crossed the road to Carroll's. Hounds did not find again until they reached Killusty Glen. This fox crossed the Killusty-Cloneen Road at Quartercross running through to the Anner. He ran the river bank crossing the mountain road at Killusty Bridge down by the Soccer pitch to Killusty Castle where they lost. While it may not have been Ear to the Ground as far as hounds were concerned it was a case of 'noses to the ground' as they had to work the line every inch of the way in very poor scent.

Hounds meet next Sunday, December 5, at Ballyluskey at 11am.

Hunting News
Drawn towards Rathsallagh from Rosegreen on Tuesday, November 23, hounds found in Morrissey's. Hunting up to Kilbragh they swung left back to Kilconnell. Rounding the Castle they ran towards Coolmoyne, marking to ground in the valley under the Fethard – Cashel road. From the main covert in Tullamaine hounds had a good run up to Kilbragh where the fox crossed the road. Running a good left-handed circle towards Railstown they hunted back to the road below Kilbragh House where they checked.

The fox had more than likely ran back to Tullamaine and was left. Finding again in Tullamaine near Hayes' they hunted back through John Slattery's. Hunting strong toward the ball alley their fox went to ground in Mulcahy's. At St. Johnstown on Thursday scent was not good. The dry cold North-East wind not helping matters. Nevertheless, while not achieving runs of any great distance or points hounds were busy all day and provided good sport in very trying conditions. Having drawn Dillon's blank a fox from the fort at Coolbawn Cross was quickly caught on top.

One of a leash of foxes in the small covert at Bawnbrack ran down towards the St. Johnstown Road. Right-handed up through Blackmores he crossed the Killenaule road near Coolbawn Cross to Mortlestown where they checked. Hitting it off again in the Laurels they hunted back by Mortlestown House to Willie Browne's gallops where they lost him. In the afternoon they enjoyed two runs through Patrick Kennedy's and Aiden Kennedy's and the Waterfall near Crosscannon Cross.

Fethard Macra News
The regional final round of the national public speaking competition was held Saturday night in the Woodlands Hotel, Adare, County Limerick.

After winning the South Tipperary round a number of weeks ago there was high hopes for our team of Leah McNamara, Julie Kennedy and Fiona Shanahan. The girls represented themselves well on the night but unfortunately lost out to a very experienced and highly capable Avondu team from cork. We congratulate the three girls and a special word of congratulations goes to Julie Kennedy who was awarded best speaker of the night.

Volleyball continues every Thursday in Clerihan at 9pm. All surrounding club members are welcome. Soccer is ongoing every two weeks in Clonmel Rugby Club on Friday nights.

The next meeting of Fethard Macra will take place in a week or two, members will be notified by text message in due course. There are a number of items up for discussion. For more details on Fethard Macra and upcoming events or membership contact David on 087 9454384.

As part of the 'county exchange programme' members of Waterford Macra made their way to Clonmel last Saturday night to socialise with members of South Tipp Macra. The night started off in Hotshots bowling club in Powerstown after which members retired to Eldon's to begin a night on the tiles. The 'county exchange' initiative is a great way for members from various clubs and counties to 'bounce' ideas and to form a better network within Macra circles.

Fethard Macra would like to congratulate Dundrum Macra member, Sherine Prendergast who was recently crowned 'Queen of the land' in Tullamore. Sherine represented Dundrum in the competition and is well known to us here in Fethard and is a very active person within Macra. She fought off stiff competition against twenty-seven other competitor's. We wish her all the best.

South Tipp volleyball continues weekly at 9pm every Friday in Clerihan hall. Everyone from the region is encouraged to come along. Soccer takes place every two weeks on Friday nights in Clonmel rugby club.

A number of our Macra Club took part in last weekend's Slievenamon Musical society's production of 'Me and My Girl'. The show went down a storm and they would like to thank all Fethard Macra member's who made the effort to come and support the show on the nights.
For more information on Fethard Macra see our Bebo page or phone our chairperson, David on 087 9454384.
