JUVENILE GAA CLUB
Our under/11's travelled to Bansha on Saturday morning last and played three great games of ground hurling. We came away with great wins over Cahir and Bansha and the final game against Ballybacon/Grange ended in a very exciting draw. The lads were down three goals in the first half, and with only ten minutes a side being played they had much work to do. Their determination payed off and they managed to score three quick goals to set the game even when the final whistle blew. Well done to the lads.
DIED RECENTLY
We record the death of Manfred Naundorf, Killusty, who died on Tuesday 9th September, peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel. Those who worked picking tulip bulbs at Annsgift some years ago will remember Mr Naundorf, who was farm manager at that time.
Removal took place from his residence on Saturday 13th September to Newlands Cross Crematorium, Dublin, arriving at 12 noon.
HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY FRANK

COUNTY SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
County football champions Clonmel Commercials were dethroned by their great rivals Fethard in a pulsating county championship quarter final in Kilsheelan last Sunday evening.

YOGA CLASSES
Yoga Classes will commence in the ICA Hall on Thursday 18th September. Two classes will take place each night, one at 7pm and the other at 8.30pm. All are welcome.

The next meeting of Fethard and Killusty Community Council will take place on Tuesday night 16th September, at 8.30pm in the Fr. Tirry Community Centre. Mr Chris Sheehan, County Childcare Committee, will attend the meeting.

SHOW SUCCESSES
Fethard ladies were to the fore on the prizewinners list at the Bansha Horse Show on August 27th. Hillary O'Connor took the red rosette for 1st place in the Cob Class with her coloured cob, ‘Chocolate Chip Cookie’. Ginny Hutton was equally successful, winning the Hunter Class, showing Billy and Kylie Magnier’s mare ‘Anretta’.
It was a day to remember also for five-year-old Lucy O’Hagan who took third prize in the Lead-Rein Class of 30 entries riding her pony ‘Paddy’.
RUBY WEDDING
Congratulations and best wishes to Dermot and Carmel Rice, Everardsgrange, who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Saturday 7th September.
LUCKY WINNER
Fethard had a double success last weekend. Tipperary County GAA Board draw promoter in Fethard, Seamus Hackett, had the months first prizewinner on his list. Martin Burke of the Bridge Bar was winner of the monthly first prize of a motor car. Seamus won the promoters prize of €200. It is great to see Martin on the receiving end of a prize for a change, as he is consistently one of the most generous local sponsors of prizes for almost any local fundraising event.
Fethard club completed a good weekend when the senior footballers had a 13 to 9 points win over Clonmel Commercials in the County Senior Football Championship quarterfinal game at Kilsheelan on Sunday night.
FR TIRRY PARK
Mr Paddy Fitzgerald, on behalf of the residents of Fr. Tirry Park, would like to thank the members of the local County Council who did tremendous maintenance work on the paths etc at the estate which is used by Fethard's senior citizens.
MARRIED RECENTLY
The wedding took place at Fethard Parish Church on Saturday 6th September of Marianne, eldest daughter of Mr Bill and the late Sheila O’Sullivan, Perryville, Main Street, Fethard, to Mr Robbie O’Connell, Charlestown, Co. Mayo.
The wedding took place at Killusty Church on Saturday 6th September of Ms Caroline Phelan to Mr Alex Benson. Caroline is a native of Kiltinan and returned from Oxford, England, to be wed in her local Killusty church.
FETHARD JUVENILE GAA CLUB
It has been a quiet few weeks for the Juvenile Club but Thursday last week saw our U/14's loose to St Patricks in Mullinahone in their hurling semi-final championship bid. The final score was by no means a reflection on how these young lads played and they were only three points down with just the dying minutes left when St Pats stormed up the field and scored two quick successive goals. These young players did their club proud and played on until the final whistle. Well done to the lads and Liam, Martin, Ian and Jim.
Our U/11's begin their ground-hurling season next Saturday when they travel to Bansha. Players please note bus leaves from outside the GAA field at 10.15am.
The Club would also like to congratulate Ben Walsh and Gavin Fitzgerald (football) and Eoin O'Connell (hurling) who were selected to play the mini-games last Sunday before the South Final was played. They represented their club well.

The classic will be a three-ball scramble and entry fee is €100 per team which includes meal.
DIED RECENTLY
Our sympathy to Betty (Bradshaw) Fahey, Poulavanogue, Clonmel, on the sudden death of her husband Pat, who died on Wednesday September 3rd in Dublin. Pat and Betty are photographed above at a function in Fethard not long ago. Betty, originally from Drumdeel, Fethard, worked for many years as receptionist for Dr. Maher, Main Street, Fethard.
Remains left O'Donoghue's Funeral Parlour, Clonmel, at 6.45pm on Friday 5th September, for Sts Peter and Paul's Church, Clonmel. Burial took place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Clonmel, following Requiem Mass at 1pm on Saturday.

Congratulations are extended to our leaving cert class of 2003. They were delighted with their results received on August 13th. Good grades were achieved at higher and ordinary levels and personal hopes were fulfilled. Many now travel on to 3rd level education to pursue courses in engineering, business, law, construction and the arts.
Our popular geography and English teacher Justin McGree tied the knot on August 16th. Both he and his wife Sinéad are on honeymoon in California presently.
The sympathy of the principal and staff is extended to Mr Richard Prendergast on the death of his brother Anthony at so young an age, and to Michael Leonard on the death of his mother, Bridget.
Friday August 29th is E Day (entry) for our new 1st year. Our intake has increased significantly this year and we wish them a happy six years with us.
NO NEW NEWS
“Kerry player bitten by Tyrone opponent in All-Ireland semifinal!”, screamed the headlines in a national Sunday paper. What’s new?
We recall a Coolmoyne v Carrick Swan senior hurling match way back in the fifties when a similar event occurred. During what the late Micheál O Heir called a ‘schmozzle’ on the edge of the Coolmoyne square, the Coolmoyne full back and the Swan full forward collapsed in an untidy heap. Both of these players were bordering on the super-heavyweight division. The Carrick man realising that the thumb of the Coolmoyne full back was in his mouth, could not shout a warning of his predicament. He decided, however, to apply a little pressure with his upper and lower molars to the offending digit, which had the desired effect.
Both players rose to their feet and continued playing, no warning was given, no names taken and no one sent off. Nevertheless to say, there were no startling headlines of the occurrence on the report of the game in The Nationalist that week. Concerning which, the late Tommy Kearney of the Carrick Opinion fame wrote, “Next Sunday’s game between Coolmoyne and Swan should be a tough encounter, after all, Coolmoyne are Fethard (feathered) and The Swans have a ‘down’ on them.
FAMILY TREASURE HUNT
This week is Heritage Week all across Europe and Fethard Historical Society have organised their second event on Tuesday evening, 9th September, with a guided tour of the Medieval Town, by Mary Hanrahan, beginning at 7.15pm There is no fee and all are welcome.
South Tipperary County Council have produced a brochure of all events for the week, contact Newsagents, Community Council Office or the County Council itself for a free copy.

THE LATE FR. TWOMEY OSA
The news of the death of Rev Fr Michael Twomey OSA on Sunday 31st August in Dublin was received with great regret in Fethard. The late Fr. Twomey in his three terms of ministry at Fethard Augustinian Abbey probably exceeded the term served by any priest in Fethard Parish.
The saintly Father was held in the greatest regard and high esteem by all who were privileged to know him. Sincere sympathy is extended to his fellow priests in the O.S.A. and especially to his relatives and the Augustinian Fathers who served with him in Fethard. Fr. Twomey will be interred at Fethard Augustinian Abbey.
Remains left Ballyboden, Dublin, at 4pm on Tuesday, and arrived at the Augustinian Abbey Fethard at 7.30pm. Requiem Mass took place at 12 noon on Wednesday 3rd September followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
SOUTH FOOTBALL SEMIFINAL
It was sweet pay-back time for recent defeats by Fethard when a confident and well-focussed Moyle Rovers stripped their arch rivals and the fancied holders of their championship crown with this comprehensive victory in their South Tipperary Clonmel Oil SFC semi-final at Kilsheelan on Saturday 23rd August. IRISH PILGRIMAGE TRUST – GOLF CLASSIC
The Irish Handicapped Children's Pilgrimage Trust was first set up by a small group of twenty eight people in Easter of 1972. The first group to travel to Lourdes consisted of fourteen young people with special needs who were accompanied by fourteen adult carers who pay their own fare. Thirty years later in 2002 over five hundred people with special needs were accompanied by five hundred adult carers on a very special journey. The Trust covers the cost of the young people selected to travel. It costs approximately €850.00 to bring each young person to Lourdes.
This year the South Eastern Region have the responsibility of raising €20,000.00. The Trust relies on the generosity of people making donations or supporting the many functions organised by its regional committee.
To raise this amount for next Easter's Pilgrimage, one of our group, Sr. Betty, has decided to take part in a sponsored cycle from Dinard in the north of France to Lourdes, a distance of approximately 600 miles, during the week prior to the children travelling to Lourdes. We plan to raise a major part of our sponsorship by organising various events during the coming months, such as Golf Classic, Raffles, Sponsored Walk, etc.
The Golf Classic will be held in Slievenamon Golf Club on the l2" and 13th of September next. You may wish to support this venture by sponsoring a team of three for 120 euro (meal included). Sponsor a Tee Box/Green for 50 euro, or any other donation you may wish to make will be greatly appreciated.

Training for Fethard Rugby players under/12 and under/10 will commence in the Community Sportsfield on Saturday 6th September. Training for under/8s will commence on Saturday 13th September.
