To win an All Ireland Championship in anything is a great achievement. The foxhound world is no exception with the following, leading thirteen, packs in Ireland taking part at Stradbally Hall this year, Ballymacad and The Island, Wexford, East Down, North Down, Duhallow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Limerick, Meath, Tipperary, North Tipperary and Waterford.

The display of the magnificent Cups and Trophies won by the Tipperarys at Stradbally at the Tipp Puppy Show last week was a marvellous sight indeed. Something not too easily achieved. Congratulations to the puppy walkers who walked the hounds and especially to Huntsman, Derry Donegan, and Whipper-in, Sam Staniland whose hard work, breeding policy and attention to detail is now showing results on the flags and in the field.

Favoured by a glorious evening, Tipperary Foxhounds held their annual Puppy Show at The Kennels on Wednesday 7th July. Derry Donegan presented seven-and-a-half couple Dog Hounds and eight-and-a-half couple Bitches before judges Mr Rupert MacAuley, of the North Wicklow Foxhounds, and Mr Paul O’Brien, of the Kilmoganny Harriers. The following were the prizewinners:

Dog Hounds: 1st Govener, walked by Thomas Donegan; 2nd Lifeguard, walked by Ginny Hutton and 3rd Benedict, walked by Yvonne McClintock.

Bitches: 1st Lilac, walked by Mr Ned Tierney; 2nd Banquet, walked by Mr Frank Quirke and 3rd Dauntless, walked by Mr William Morgan.

Presenting the prizes, Mr Padraig Kennedy, Chairman, thanked Derry and the Kennel Staff for their work throughout the year and the resplendent condition of the Kennels and surrounds. He also thanked the landowners and puppy walkers without whose co-operation hunting just could not continue. The evening concluded with a Barbeque and Puppy Show Tea and refreshments in the Marquee provided by the ladies committee.

Fethard and Killusty Community Games
Girls U16 Volleyball team
Double victory for the U-16 girls and boys volleyball teams at the Munster finals of the HSE Community Games which took place in University of Limerick on Saturday 10th May. The Fethard area, who had such a tremendous record in this event in the past, were relatively quiet during the past two years, but they certainly made a big impact last weekend. The girls were first to play and beat a team from Quin/Cooney in the semifinal they then went on to complete a decisive win over St. Senans Limerick in the final.

Fethard Boys U-16 volleyball team, winners of gold medals at HSE Community Games Munster Finals, being presented with the Sean Murphy Mohawk Cup by Tony Lee Director of HSE National Community Games. L to R Cormac Horan, Eoghain Hurley, Adam Fitzgerald (captain), Niall Doocey, Cathal Hurley, Tony Lee, Denis Burke (manager) and Dion Butler. Also on the team is Ronan Fitzgerald.

That victory put it up to the boys who faced a strong team from Quinn/Cooney in their final but Fethard pulled out all the stops and were not going to give in until they had Mohawk Cup in their grasp to the delight of their managers, Denis Burke and Justin McGree, who put in so much effort coaching both teams.

The trophy for the girls final was none other than the Tom Butler Shield which was presented to the Munster Council many years ago by our county patron Tom Butler from Coolanure and whose granddaughter Lucy was a member of the present team.

Lucy's mum, Alice, played, coached and managed volleyball teams in Mosney in 1987 so she wont be lacking in support. Big thanks also to her dad Kieran for all his assistance in the media dept on the day.
Teams members (girls) were: Emma Hayes (captain), Aobh O’Shea, Michelle Walsh, Tara Horan, Karen Hayes, Aisling Costin, Chloe Byrne, Christina Myler, Kelly Keating and Lucy Butler. Boys: Adam Fitzgerald (captain), Eoghain Hurley, Cathal Hurley, Ronan Fitzgerald, Cormac Horan, Niall Doocey and Dion Butler. Brian Healy and Dylan Fitzgerald were absent due to previous commitments to a match in Dublin. Other panel members are David Hayes and Graham Meagher.

The HSE National Finals will take place in AIT Athlone on weekending 13th -15th August. Fee of €120 to stay in student accommodation, which also includes all meals and entry to entertainment. Fee to stay out is €25. Passport type photo of all team members and managers must be forwarded to the Community Games Office, Grove Road, immediately. Well done to all.

The Community Games Church Gate Collection will be taken up within the next few weeks.

Died suddenly
Aideen O'DonnellThe news of the tragic death of Aideen O’Donnell on Saturday morning, 10th July, came as a great shock to the Fethard community. Aideen, daughter of Ann and Pat O'Donnell, Kilconnell, Fethard, attended the Patrician Presentation Secondary School in Fethard and maintained her many school friendships since completing her Leaving Cert in 2001.

Our sincere sympathy to the O'Donnell family and to Aideen's relatives and friends. Requiem Mass took place at St. John The Baptist Church, Cashel, on Tuesday followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.
