The death has occurred of Marie (Dineen) White on Friday 15th December in Leamington Spa, England. Marie was originally from Kerry Street, Fethard.

Christmas Carol Service
The annual Carol Service at Holy Trinity Church of Ireland will take place on Friday 22nd December at 8pm. All are welcome.

Penitential Service
A Penitential Service will take place at 7.30pm in Holy Trinity Parish Church on Monday 18th December.

Christmas Country Market
Fethard Christmas Country Market will take place on Friday 22nd December from 8am to 11am. Come early — lots of Christmas fare — holly, holly wreaths, cakes, puddings, mince pies, eggs, jams and marmalade etc.

Healthy Living Club
Fethard Community Youth Project invites you to the ‘Healthy Living Club’. This ten-week programme is for any girl aged between 10 and 12 years and will run every Tuesday, after school, for 10 weeks only. The aim of the club is to learn about a healthy lifestyle in a fun way. If you think you know anyone that is interested in learning about having a healthy lifestyle; healthy food and exercise, playing games and having FUN! A registration evening will be held in the Tirry centre at 7pm on Tuesday 19th December for anyone who may be interested. The meeting will be an opportunity for parents to come along and hear more about the ‘Healthy Living’ programme and to register their child. Died Recently
The death has occurred on Monday 11th December of Edith Murray, Mockler's Terrace, Fethard. Remains will leave McCarthy's Funeral Parlour at 7.45pm on Thursday 14th December for Holy Trinity Parish Church Fethard.

Requiem Mass at 11am on Friday followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.

The Fethard / Killusty London Reunion was held on the 7th October in the Function Room at the Walkabout, Temple, London. The central London venue was chosen after feedback received in previous years, as was the change of date to get away from the holiday season, which was cited by several as a reason for not attending. A small crowd was in attendance for what was a very entertaining evening with music and song from Mary Morrissey and her Band and a superb hot buffet provided by the Walkabout. The dance floor saw plenty of action before the night was out as Mary and the lads played a great selection of tunes, old and new, for us to enjoy.

Redcity was well represented with Tim Curran, Helen Curran and Ena (Curran) Griffin coming down from Hertfordshire.  Ollie Fitzgerald travelled from Leicestershire to meet up with daughter Clare and Mick and Mary, on the London leg of their European tour, which has also taken in the Netherlands this year.

Tom Ryan from Killusty received a great round of applause when he popped up to give us an auld song. The auction of Clonacody House having taken place earlier in the week, provided a base for many stories of life and times around Clonacody, Jossestown, Coleman and Coolmoyne.

“The numbers were disappointing, but the evening was great”, commented Paul Looby, organiser of the event. Paul has, once again, asked for feedback from those who attended and those who didn’t. It would be a pity to lose the opportunity to meet, on an informal basis, others from home, but there is a considerable expense involved in organising anything at London venues.

Questions have been asked about the Irish Centre at Camden Town. The Kennedy Hall, venue of the Reunion for many years, is now office space, with the smallest available room in the Irish Centre accommodating over 320 people for functions. Most of the other Irish centre-type venues have regular Saturday night events, such as Bingo, country music, etc.

Patrician Presentation Jottings
Volleyball
Boys cadet volleyball team played three matches in University Limerick on Monday 4th December, against Blackwater C.S., Mountmellic, County Laoise, and Listowel, County Kerry, in three thrilling games. The boys managed to defeat Listowel in the first, lost to Blackwater in three sets in the second, and ensured qualification for the next phase by beating Mountmellic in a thrilling game. The starting team was: Adrian Lawrence (Captain), Thomas O’Connell, J.P. McGrath, James Kelly, Darragh Dwyer and Alex Channon. Sub used was Ciarán Ryan.

Study Skills
Study Skills Day was held on Wednesday 6th December. A visiting lecturer from Student Enrichment Services gave a very intensive day-long training course to 3rd Year and some 4th Year students. They focused on improving study techniques, exam preparation, and setting targets. All the students, afterwards, expressed great satisfaction with the course, which is held annually, sponsored by the Parents Association.

Grease
Well done to Ms Marian Gilpin and the whole cast, on their wonderful production of ‘Grease’, which ran for three nights last weekend. The show played to full houses each night.

School Athletics
Congratulations to Adam O’Donnell on winning the recent Cidona Schools Cross-Country 3rd Year Boys’ event, also, well done to Louis Rice on coming 6th in the 1st Year boys event.

Religious Services
Penitential services for senior classes, directed by Fr. Gerry Horan OSA, will take place during the coming week in the Convent Chapel. The school is grateful to Sr. Bosco and the Community for the use of the beautiful chapel on numerous occasions during the year.

Junior classes will have their penitential services on Thursday in the Parish Church. Fr Tom Breen P.P. will kindly conduct these services.

Finally, our annual carol service will take place on Monday 18th December at 2.45pm in the school hall.

It is hoped that these religious services will help remind the pupils of the real meaning of Christmas in an ever-increasing commercialised world.

How Many Graveyards?
Our recent question, “Can you name the graveyards in the parish of Fethard and Killusty?”, has certainly raised lots of controversy. Perhaps we phrased the question rather badly when we asked can you names the twelve, which should have said, the twelve in which the Rosary was recited during November.

One reader says there are fourteen and questioned Kilbragh, which is partly in our parish, but the actual graveyard, Kilbragh / Railstown, is in Cashel parish.

The graveyards we can list in Fethard & Killusty Parish are: Parish Church Church; Augustinian Abbey; Holy Trinity Church of Ireland; Presentation Convent (private); Kiltinan; Killusty; Kilmaclugh (Grove Estate); Everardsgrange; Calvary Cemetery; Peppardstown; Rathcoole; Tullamaine; Redcity and Templemartin.

Tiobraid Árann Abu
The ultimate Tipperary GAA story on DVD, “The Blue and the Gold”, has been widely acclaimed in GAA circles since its recent launch. ‘The Blue and Gold” contains footage from the archive heritage from over sixty matches spanning eighty years. Produced by Galway man, Frank Burke, the DVD is now available locally and should be a must have on any Tipperary man’s Christmas list.

Killusty National School

Shannon O'Brien, Killusty National School, presenting a cheque for €350, the proceeds of a coffee morning, to Jim Bond, South Tipperary Hospice, on behalf of the people of Killusty. Also included with the pupils are Ms Frances Harrington (Principal), Catriona Morrissey (Teacher). Tracy Wallace (Special Needs Assistant), Josephine Mackey (Special Needs Assistant), Helena Delany (Special Education Teacher).

Hunting News
Tipperary Foxhounds have had some good hunting during the past week though the rain and very strong winds still prevail. On Monday from Killenaule, hounds had a very nice run from Rathrua. Finding in the roadside gorse, their fox ran parallel to the Ballingarry road, which he crossed. Hunting strongly, hounds ran right-handed through Kellys and Kylenahone, crossing the Ballynonty road at Delaney’s Cross.

Reaching the big plantation over the road, they hunted with great cry and drive. Charlie was determined not to leave this refuge and Derry decided to leave him after some good covet hunting.

Hacking back to Monslatt, hounds took some time to get one of a brace to leave the covet by the Killenaule / Ballingarry road. They hunted their fox across the laneway to the plantation where he was left after twenty minutes hunting in covet.

The main covet at Springhill held a fox, which was once again not anxious to leave. Eventually pushing him out on the top, they headed down to the Laffansbridge road at Cleragh where they were stopped.

Drawing across the road, The Glen proved blank as did Dunguib where, in cricket parlance, bad light stopped play.

Foxes were hard to find from Ballinure on Wednesday. A short run was had in the afternoon from The Scart. This fox ran through Ballougoby towards Folkstown. Making a u-turn here, he retraced his steps to where he was found. Running right-handed, it looked very much as if he was heading for Noan wood where he got to ground close by the Ballinure road.

The weather once again proved the spoilsport at Loughcopple on Thursday. Hounds and huntsman tried their very best but little could be done. A good supply of foxes did, however, keep hounds and followers on the move throughout a very bad day.

The best run of the day on Saturday, from Darcy’s Cross, was in the afternoon from Holoways, following a run from Mocklerstown to the Lagoons and back to Milltown in the morning. From Holoways they crossed the Barrettstown road to Prospect. Turning left, they crossed the Coolmoyne road to Barrys. From here they ran right-handed to Coolmoyne at Martleys where they lost him.

With the White Heathers
The atrocious weather on Sunday morning certainly did not help matters with the Ballylusky White Heathers at Clonacody. Hounds could just not get it together in the driving rain and wind.

Fair dues to huntsman and whips for taking out hounds on the only day in the week they can, getting wet through on Sunday in the process.

The Ballylusky White Heather Harriers meet on Sunday next, 17th December, in Cloneen, and on St. Stephen’s Day in Drangan. Both meets at 11am.

Fethard & Killusty Community Lotto Results
The numbers drawn in the Fethard & Killusty Community Lotto on Wednesday6th December were: 1, 21, 25 and 27. There was no Jackpot winner and no ‘Match 3’ winner so three tickets were drawn and the following won €50 each:

Carol Singing
The annual ‘Carol Singing’ on the streets of Fethard, in aid of the Central Remedial Clinic Santa Bear Appeal, will take place on Thursday 21st December, commencing at Fethard Town Hall at 7.30pm. All are welcome.

St. Vincent de Paul Collection
The St. Vincent de Paul Society, Fethard, would like to sincerely thank all those who contributed so generously to their Annual Church Gate Collection last weekend. The total amount came to €2,112 for which we are extremely grateful.

Putting Christ back into Christmas!
The final night’s preparation service for Christmas, by Sr. Winnie, will take place at 8.20pm on Monday 18th December, in the Presentation Convent Chapel, following the Penitential Service in the Parish Church on the same night. All are invited to come along and prepare for the birth of Jesus. Put Christ back into Christmas by spending an hour in this pleasant prayerful environment.

Fethard GAA Club News
Congratulations on all who participated in our ‘Open Forum’ on Friday 3rd December. The meeting was very successful and was chaired by Barry O’Brien (Vice-Chairman County Board). Some good ideas were raised which are now at the disposal of the incoming club officers and committee for 2007.  Our AGM will be held on the 5th January 2007 in the Abymill at 8pm.

The club would like to thank the Allen family (Killusty) for presenting the Dick Allen Memorial Cup to the South Board on Sunday 10th December. The cup will be used for the up and coming Minor Football B Championship 2007.

We wish Miceál McCormack the best of luck in his second year as South Board Chairman and to Noel Byrne who retained his position on the Fixture Committee.

We would remind anyone with photos available for inclusion in the South Centenary Book to forward same to Noel Byrne without delay. The first event of the South Centenary Year will be the unveiling of a plaque at the GAA Centre Clonmel on Saturday 13th January at 3pm by Munster Council Chairman. Sean Fogarty. A presentation of medallions will be made to relatives of deceased officers of the South Board.

Last week’s Lotto Jackpot €2,900 was not won. We had no match threes. The numbers drawn were 15, 16, 17 and 26. The following won €30 each: Veronica Barry (Cashel), Robert O’Riordan (Cloran), Chrissie O’Meara (Grove Rd), Philip Doyle (Woodvale Walk) and Claire Landy (Killusty). The €50 Lucky Dip going to Kathleen Connolly (The Valley).
