It was in 1972 after her studies in UCD that Anne O'Donnell, originally from Wexford, arrived in Fethard to teach in Presentation Secondary School. The Presentation Secondary School later amalgamated with the Patrician High School. It was a co-ed school then with separate management-structures. Life was uncomplicated and Anne remembers being interviewed for the job by the Principal, Sr. Alphonsus, in the UCD carpark.
Anne studied English, History and Economics in UCD before completing her H.Dip in 1972. During her time in Fethard, Anne taught all three subjects to Leaving Cert Level with great success and went on to qualify as a Special Needs Teacher in Mary Immaculate College Limerick in 2000. In recent years, she excelled in this area and parents often commented on her sensitive approach to this work. Aspects of Anne's personality which will be remembered in the school are her gentleness in every situation, her empathy with all members of the school community and her collegial support.
In a recent article for the School Yearbook 2012, Anne wrote: "In September 1972, I had to search for Fethard on the map – in 2012, I can certainly say that Fethard and its people have formed a centre point on the map of my life and the life of my family". The management, staff, parents and pupils of Patrician/Presentation wish Anne many years of health and happiness in her retirement. Ní bheidh do leithéid arís ann.
First Green Flag for Holy Trinity NS
Jennifer Phelan and Mark Hayde accepting Holy Trinity National School's first 'Green Flag' on behalf of the pupils at a special ceremony in Cork
Holy Trinity National School received its first Green Flag on May 17 at a special presentation ceremony held in Cork. The overall aim of the school was to reduce waste in the school and to minimise the use of cling-film and tin foil for lunch packing. There has been great success in this area and the two dreaded non-biogradable materials have all but been eradicated from the premises. The pupils and staff are now looking onwards and upwards towards procuring flag No 2.
New Tipperary Rangers function
New Tipperary Rangers Social committee will hold a function to honour Mark O'Dwyer of Ballinure, now living in Annacarty, who played centre field for the New Tipperary Rangers hurling team that won the Mid Number 2 Junior Hurling Championship in Semple Stadium against Rahealty in 1948. Mark is one of the five remaining members of that team still hale and hearty at 92 years of age.
At the opening of the New Tipperary Rangers monument and celebrations Mark was unable to be present at that time, so the organizing committee felt that he should be honoured and fêted for his contribution to the success of the team. The function will take place at the famous Jerry Jack's bar in Annacarty on this Friday, June 15, with music and finger food on the menu. A great night entertainment is guaranteed and every one is welcome to come along and join in the merriment.

Well done to our senior footballers on a convincing win over Kilsheelan Killcash in the South Tipperary senior football championship game played during the week in Cloneen. Even though we were short a few players the selected team gave an excellent display on the night.
At half time we were behind by two points but the boys really gave their all in the second period and ran out winners on a scoreline: Fethard 0-14, Kilsheelan Kilcash 0--12. The introduction of David Hayes and Aiden Lonergan made all the difference to the game and was a telling factor on the result.
Team: Paul Fitzgerald, Shane Aylward, Gavin Fitzgerald, Alan O'Connor, Ronan Fitzgerald, Dee Burke, Brian Delahunty, Shane Walsh, Jamie McCormack, Cian Maher, Michael Dillon, Dylan Fitzgerald, Ciaran O'Meara, Brian Coen, Kenneth O'Donnell. Subs were: David Hayes and Aiden Lonergan.
Unfortunately our intermediate hurlers gave a walk over to Fr. Sheehys on Sunday in the championship.

Lakefield enquiry
Dr Eddie Gatner, Aberlady, Scotland, is looking for some information on Lakefield.
I am trying to find details of a relative, Thomas McCabe, who was a butler at Lakefield, Fethard, sometime between 1901 and 1911. I know that he had four children there and possible even married there. Although I have records of the three later children, I have no details of the first child, Mary, or of his marriage to Elizabeth Maud Richards who came from England. I do not know whether they wed in Ireland or if Thomas went to England and met his bride. I realize that this query is a little 'off the wall' but would appreciate any information that you could supply. I traced Thomas to Johnson Castle in 1901and they were very helpful but no mention of Elizabeth. Thanks for even reading this. Email: eddie.gatner@btopenworld.com
