Sr Betty’s work acknowledged 2013
We would like to to to to take this opportunity to to to to pay tribute to to to to Sr Betty Cagney for the care care she provided to to to to young children during her 38 years’ service in in in in residential social care care spent in in in in Fethard and as as Betty has moved on to to a a a a a a a a a a a new role in in in Kilkenny we believe it is an an opportune time to to acknowledge her work Sr Betty joined the Thurles congregation of Presentation Sisters in in in in in in in in 1966 She moved to to to Dublin in in in in in in in in 1972 to to to commence her training as a a a a a a a a a a paediatric nurse On graduating she she returned to to to to to Tipperary initially to to to Dundrum before she she moved to to to St Bernard’s Group Homes Fethard in in December 1975 She arrived as as a a a a a a a a a young nun called Sr Anselm dressed in in in in in her full habit and veil Betty was one of of the the founding members in in in in establishing St Bernard’s as as part of of the the the local community and and and is is is much loved and and and fondly remembered by the the children staff and and parishioners We’ve had a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a year to to prepare for Betty’s retirement and and it it was with great sadness we we we bid a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a fond farewell to to her in May 2013
after 38 years We marked the occasion with bittersweet emotions both
Sr Juliana and a a a a a a a group group of of knitting friends held a a a a a a a weekly ‘Knitting Cafe’ where some some some of of the the the group group knit knit for for for for charity some some some for for for for First Communion others for for for for family members and some some some just for for for for themselves!
