Fethard Tidy Towns 2010–2014Project 4 – 2013The new tree park area on the Cashel road started in 2012 was once again one of our main projects carried out in 2013. We cleared a lot more Japanese Knot Weed and giant hog weed from this area.Coolmore kindly donated all the beautiful new mature trees that were planted in the park. All the trees were grown three miles from Fethard at Coolmore Stud Farm and have matured over 25 years. The tree types located in the park are as follows, Golden Ash, Blue Cedar, Oriental Pear, Silver birch, Copper Beech, Norway Maple and Red Maple. On the planting of trees we went for a sequence of trees rather than a compass of trees as the area is too small, and this provides you with a full view of the playground and river area. When we started this project there was no footpath on the public road so this was included as part of the park project, this has been of great benefit to pedestrians.Coolmore Stud also planted all the trees for this project and prepared the ground work, while the County Council constructed the footpath. We also undertook to start developing the Convent Hall side of the river. We removed fallen trees, rubbish and constructed a new footpath, set wild flowers, fruit trees and shrubs. The next project this year involved hedge cutting and clearing on Clonmel Road at Garrinch. The old hedge was cut back to provide both pedestrians and motorists with clear visibility of the very busy Fethard/Clonmel road.Page 15
