'Fresh as Paint' is a joint art exhibition open until May 10, at Clonmel Library featuring work by the following artists: Cecily Purcell, Eugene de Leastar, Millie Philippa, Rosemary Ponsonby, Silvia Tilli, Sisko Raulo, Sophie Carpentieri, and Tim Corballis. Fethard Town Park Car Park Important Notice
Important Notice for users of Fethard Town Park's Car Park. As from Thursday, May 1, the Car Park at Fethard Town Park will be locked with our recently installed barrier, every night at 10pm and reopen again on the following morning at 6am.
Nationwide Rosary
On Saturday May 10, thousands of Catholics across Ireland will gather in their local communities to participate in Rosary Rallies as part of the world’s largest Rosary Rally Crusade. The initiative is sponsored by Ireland Needs Fatima, a campaign of the Irish Society for Christian Civilisation, and has been held annually since 2013 on the Saturday closest to May 13, the anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima’s first apparition.
These Rosary Rallies are a powerful proclamation of faith in a secular world and a direct response to Our Lady’s request at Fatima to “Pray the Rosary every day in order to obtain peace for the world.”
The local site is Our Lady of Fatima Grotto, in The Abbey Grounds, at 4pm. We appeal to all to join us for Rosary, Prayer Intentions & Hymns etc. We are just one of almost 600 sites nationwide.
Parish Church Lotto Draw Results
There was no jackpot winner in the Parish Lotto on Thursday, May 1, 2025. The numbers drawn were 8, 12, 15, and 20. The winner of the weekly draw for €30 was Grainne Diver. Next week's Jackpot for Thursday, May 8, 2025, will be €5,000.

GAA Sports Development Lotto Results
Fethard GAA Sports Lotto draw results for April 29, 2025, are as follows: the numbers drawn were: 6, 17, 21 and 29. We had no Jackpot winner and two Match 3 winners who received €75 each: John O'Neill and Lilly Tobin. One' lucky dip winner received €100: Joe Kenny. The next draw takes place on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, when the jackpot is €30,000.

Tanzania Donation Update
Emma Jayne Burke volunteering in Arusha, Tanzania
Emma Jayne Burke, Fethard, wanted to share an update on the impact of your generous donations during her time volunteering in Arusha, Tanzania. Thanks to your support, they were able to provide essential medical equipment to the local hospital, including:
- 2 oxygen flow meters
- 2 fetal Doppler machines
- 2,000 sets of plastic gloves
- 6 toxic waste bins
- 250 blue-top tubes and 250 ESR fast tubes
- 1 ultrasound machine
In addition to medical support, we also made a meaningful impact on education in the community. With your contributions, we provided basic stationery supplies—including copybooks, pencils, and rulers—to around 1700 students. Furthermore, we supported 1,000 local girls in their education by supplying essential sanitary products.
Your generosity has made a real difference in the lives of so many. Thank you for being part of this effort!
A great start for Fethard in the U19 ‘A’ Football Championship
On Friday last, April 25, the 2025 U19 ‘A’ Football Championship commenced in Davin Park, run this year on a league basis with three rounds run before exams start. The next two rounds will take place on Wednesday, April 30, and Friday, May 7. Six teams taking part are Fethard, Clonmel Og, Kilsheelan, Commercials, Mullinahone, and Moyle Rovers, with the top two qualifying for the semi-finals and the remaining four teams play in the quarterfinals.
On Friday last, Fethard opened with a flourish in the first six minutes with three goal chances, and scoring two, by Danny Barry and Charlie Walsh. By the 12th minute we added 0-2 from a Mark Neville free and one from Gavin Neville from play, before Kilsheelan got going. By the 25th minute the score was Fethard 2-2 to Kilsheelan 0-4 with the final score of the half being a point from play from Liam Kiely. In this half Fethard penetrated the opposition defence with seven wides, leaving the half time score Fethard 2-3 Kilsheelan 0-4.
Starting the second half, Fethard scored a point from a free by Mark Nevile. For the next 10 minutes we were out of the game leaving Kilsheelan score 4 points, leaving the score 2-5 to 0-8. On the 13th minute, a great movement resulted with Liam Kiely scoring a goal for Fethard. By the 20th minute we scored three more points from a Mark Neville free, two from play by Danny Barry and Liam Kiely, leaving the score 3-8 to 0-8.
As the final 10 minutes played out, Kilsheelan scored a point, with Mark Neville scoring two for Fethard, one from a free and one from play. Leaving Fethard run out easy winners on the night by 3-10 to 0-9, with stiffer opposition to follow.
Best for Fethard on the night were the Neville brothers, Gavin and Mark, Luke Lacey, Liam Kiely, Noah O’Flynn, Andrew Connerton, and Danny Barry. Fethard team also had two guested players from Clerihan, Michael Dempsey and Harry Hickey.

Tipperary Ladies Football team who lost to Waterford in the TG4 Munster LGFA Senior Championship played at Fethard Town Park on Sunday, April 27.
Two goals in the first four minutes set Waterford Ladies Football team on their way to victory over Tipperary Ladies in the TG4 Munster LGFA Senior Championship game played at Fethard Town Park on Sunday, April 27.
The visitors couldn’t have asked for a better start and adding a point between the goals, they built up an early lead that they never surrendered. A battling performance from Tipperary brought them back in contention and they got to within three points of Waterford, 2-7 to 1-7, with seven minutes left on the clock to set up a grandstand finish, However, Waterford finished stronger, with 2 late points pushing them over the line.
Legion of Mary Rosary Programme for May
The Legion of Mary Rosary Programme for the month of May is as follows:
- May 1st – The Parish Church Grotto and on each Tuesday & Thursday at 7pm.
- May 5th – Killusty Grotto and on each Monday at 8pm.
Pope Francis encouraged the faithful to pray the Rosary during the month of May, ‘When the People of God express with particular intensity their love and devotion for the Blessed Virgin Mary’. All are welcome to join in praying the Rosary with us during the month.

‘May Day’ is theme this year’s Poetry Day in Fethard
Come along to celebrate Poetry Day Ireland at 4pm on Thursday, May 1, 2025 in Fethard Horse Country Exhibition, Main Street, Fethard. Join Mary Hanrahan in what has become a much-anticipated annual event in Fethard Town Hall. The theme for this year is ‘May Day’. Rich with poetic inspiration, May Day is rooted in the ancient fire festival of Bealtaine, which celebrates renewal, hope and abundance. It’s also a day of solidarity and collective strength through its global recognition as International Workers’ Day.

Fethard U14 Girls Crowned Munster Cup Champions after thrilling victory
Fethard & District RFC U14 girls who claimed a brilliant win over Clonakilty in the Munster Cup Final played at Virgin Media Park on Sunday, April 6, 2025.
Congratulations to Fethard & District RFC U14 girls who claimed a brilliant win in the Munster Cup Final at Virgin Media Park on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Clonakilty came into the match as favourites, having beaten Fethard earlier in the league season. But from the first whistle, the Fethard players showed incredible determination and laser focus as they played into a strong wind in the opening half.
Clonakilty dominated territory and possession for much of the first half, camping inside the Fethard half and threatening the try line on several occasions. However, the tenacious defence of the Fethard girls stood strong, repelling wave after wave of pressure. Alyssa Kerrigan, Talya Barlaz, Saoirse Maunsell and Catalina Calvo Costa were amongst those who tackled tirelessly. Clonakilty eventually broke through to score a converted try just before half-time.
With the wind now at their backs, Fethard started the second half with renewed energy. Ali O’Grady, Abi Callanan, Grace Lawrence, Aine O’Neil and Kate Dunne were amongst the girls who threatened the opposition repeatedly. After just a few minutes, some slick interplay between the forwards and backs saw Siún McNamara weave her way through the Clonakilty defence to score Fethard’s opening try — which she calmly converted.
From the restart, a clever kick by McNamara pushed the opposition deep into their own half. Lily Gillespie raced up to meet the Clon full-back just as she gathered the ball on her try line, producing a big tackle that brought a huge roar from the stands. Fethard were now hitting their purple patch. Sustained pressure followed, with the ball going from wing to wing. A break from Kate O’Dwyer set the platform, and Grace Keena picked from the back of the ruck to power over for Fethard’s second try — once again converted by McNamara.
The next 15 minutes were tense and scoreless, with both teams giving everything. Second rows Ayla Barlaz, and Anna O’Sullivan put in a huge shift in defence during this period. Just as the clock turned red, Fethard kept the ball alive with some exciting attacking play, and Catalina Calvo Costa crossed the line for the final try of the match. McNamara capped a great day from the boot by slotting the conversion. Final score: Fethard 21, Clonakilty 7. Huge congratulations to the players on a fantastic team performance. Co-captains Gillespie and McNamara lifted the Munster Cup, with McNamara also being awarded Player of the Match.

Fethard RFC U14 Girls Claim Zara Horan Cup at the Good Friday Tournament hosted by Shannon RFC
Fethard U14 girls put in a superb performance at the Good Friday Tournament hosted by Shannon RFC, battling through wet and windy conditions — perfect rugby weather — to win the prestigious Zara Horan Cup on Friday, April 18.
Fethard came out on top of their group with good wins over familiar rivals Ennis, and two new opponents — Boyne RFC and the Tullow Rhinos. The knockout stages saw Fethard face a determined Garryowen/Richmond side in the quarter-finals before meeting Ennis again in a tough semi-final clash. Remarkably, after five matches, the Fethard defence had yet to concede a single point.
The final against a physically imposing Buccaneers team was a true test of character. Fethard were first to score — a crucial advantage under tournament rules. Buccaneers hit back with a try of their own, but a well-worked team effort saw Fethard retake the lead. The Fethard girls were relentless in their tackling and pressure.
After the final hooter, play continued for a few intense minutes, and Buccaneers managed to cross the line again. With the score tied and no extra time allowed, the tournament rules awarded victory to the team who scored first — crowning Fethard deserved champions.
The Zara Horan Cup was presented to the Fethard captains by Zara’s father in a touching moment. All players contributed to a fantastic day of rugby, showing skill, stamina, and team spirit across six tough matches. Congratulations to all involved on a well-deserved win! Thanks to all in Shannon RFC for a fantastically organised tournament .

School celebrates its 25 nationalities
Multicultural Day was celebrated in style at the Presentation Primary School in Clonmel on April 24, 2015. Pupils and staff came to school in national costume or national colours, with many proudly carrying scarves and flags to represent the 25 countries they call home.
Some of the Irish pupils chose to wear the colours of an adopted country. The classrooms and play- grounds were a riot of colour, with many creative designs and patterns. Hats, scarves jewellery and head pieces added to the display as did some very unusual accessories such as an Australian cork hat, a didgeridoo and flamenco shoes.
The Presentation School was delighted with the response of parents, many of whom visited the school to talk about their home country and its similarities and differences to Ireland. Pupils listened in amazement to tales of picking bananas, coconuts, peppercorns and tea or making clay diya lamps for the four-day festival of Diwali in India.
Pupils were fascinated by the thoughts of translucent white lizards and stealthy snakes in Brazil. Some groaned in envy at the information that winter temperatures in Argentina can reach 17 degrees Celsius. Visiting parents kindly explained the significance of particular items of clothing jewellery and body art. Some taught songs or a dance. Many brought food, and mouth-watering aromas wafted around the corridors as pupils and staff happily sampled savoury and sweet treats.
Music and song echoed through the classrooms as teachers taught lessons with a difference. Pupils sang Freres Jacques and danced and laughed their way through the Mexican Hat Dance and an Australian Bush Dance. Artists created intricate henna hand designs and made origami hearts. Many pupils had been busy in the kitchen the previous evening, making traditional dishes including Irish stew, rosó (chicken noodle soup) from Poland, samosas and rice dishes from Pakistan and India, kaiserschmarrn (thick pan cakes) from Germany and sweet puff puffs from Nigeria.
This wonderful Multicultural Day was the highlight of an annual Presentation project called Challenge to Change, which this year (2015) aimed to promote respect.

Presentation to Patrician Brothers Secondary School 1984 ‘Munster Cup’ team members who also made their way onto the Tipperary Minor Football Panel who won the Munster Championship title in 1984 and reached the All Ireland Final against Dublin. Most unlucky of these was centre half Willie O’Meara whose broken knee in the Munster Colleges final cost him his place on the County Minor Panel and the Munster Minor medal won by Brian Burke, Tommy Sheehan, John Hackett and Tom Anglim.
