Results of Guess the Age and Height of 'Blossom'

'Blossom' the Clydesdale horse which was a great attraction in Holy Trinity Church of Ireland on Heritage day. Pictured above with Derek Bailey.
Holy Trinity Church of Ireland were delighted to welcome visitors to the Church during the Fethard Heritage Day Festival. Teas, coffees and cakes were served inside the church with music played on the organ by James Clooney. Outside in the churchyard grounds, Derek Bailey displayed one of his Clydesdale horses called 'Blossom', and a competition took place to guess the age of the horse and her height in hands. The answer to that question was as follows: Age of 'Blossom' was 12 years, and his height was 17.2 hands.
There was only one person who correctly guessed both the age and the height. Some entries had one of the questions answered correctly and all those entries were put in a hat and winners randomly selected. The winners were as follows:
- First Prize was a Stuffed Toy Horse, won by Mary Morgan who answered both sections correctly;
- Second Prize was a Tee Shirt, won by Kate Clooney;
- Third Prize was a Tee Shirt, won by Mareé Moclair;
Thank you to everyone who supported us and we look forward to seeing everyone at our Harvest Festival Service on Sunday, September 29, at 7pm.

These donations are then sent on to us and we thank every single person who supported us in this way. As well as the above support we again are deeply grateful to all the shoppers who put loose change into our collection boxes on the counters of the local shops and businesses as this is a very valuable source of help to us.
Contact details for those needing support
As usual anybody who needs our help can get in touch with any member of our group or text 085 808 6099 for completely confidential support. Lastly, we acknowledge the huge help so many people extend to us in so many ways.
Submissions invited for Annual Emigrants Newsletter

Fethard & Killusty Emigrants Newsletter celebrate its 65th year in operation this year. The first Newsletter (one single page) was published in 1959 by the Legion of Mary and posted to emigrants throughout the world to help keep them in touch with life in Fethard parish.
Today, 65 years later, we have kept the tradition alive and in doing so, have captured the opinions and memories of many of our community, old and young, that will enhance generations to come, in particular the huge amount of emigrants that have now discovered their long lost Fethard roots with the help of family tress, internet searches and in particular, relatives with DNA connections to local families. Exciting times for those embracing new technology.
Submissions invited for this year’s issue
Work has begun in compiling this year’s issue and club secretaries and organisations have been notified of this year’s deadline for articles, which is Friday, October 11, 2024. This invitation also applies to any individual at home or abroad, who feels like sharing their memories or family photographs for publication in this year’s issue. We really appreciate the regular contributors and would love to have many more if possible. It is these articles that help make the Newsletter special and unique. It doesn’t matter if the articles are short or long, you will have the support of the editorial committee to help and tidy up and loose ends if required. We encourage you to give it a try . . . you won’t be disappointed. Articles and photos (with captions) can be submitted by email to emigrantsnewsletter@gmail.com or by hand or post to Joe Kenny, Rocklow Road, Fethard, Co. Tipperary E91 XR26.
