On Sunday, August 25, Fethard Heritage Day Festival was held at Watergate, beside the Medieval Town Wall Park where an attendance in excess of 3,000 turned out to enjoy the entertainment and Fancy Dress Parade.

The judges of the Fancy Dress parade announced their results as follows:  Overall First Prize ‘Olympic Athletes Visit Fethard’; Overall Second Prize ‘The Jungle Book’. Historical Theme (Adult) First Prize ‘Fantasia Preforming Arts’. Historical Theme (Children) First Prize ‘Ladies of Berlin Come to Fethard’; Artistic Theme (Children) First Prize ‘Taylor Swift Era's End at Fethard Festival’; Second Prize ‘Elsa from Frozen’. Original Theme (Children) First Prize ‘Olympics Eiffel Tower’, Second Prize ‘The Jungle Book’. Original Theme (Adults) First Prize ‘Fethard Ladies Football Club’, Second Prize ‘Moyglass & Coolmoyne Vintage Club’. A special thank you to our Fancy Dress Parade judges, Michael Mallon and Henry Fitzgerald, and to the Local Motorbike Club who added their own exciting spectacle by participating in the parade.

The results of the dog show, organised by Catherine Newport and Pat Culligan, were as follows:

The Heritage Day Quiz ‘A Year in the Life of Fethard’ was won by Noreen Sheehy.  This year the focus of the questions was on the happenings in Fethard over the past twelve months and, in keeping with previous years, the quiz provided a bit of conversation and amusement for participants. 

We would like to thank all those who took part and to say that as usual, as well as giving a small token the winner, the remainder of the proceeds were donated to the Festival Fund. Already the cogs are being put in motion for next year’s offering… around the theme of Entertainment . . .  so here’s your cue to have your research done in time!

Parish Church Lotto Draw Results
There was no jackpot winner in this week's Parish Lotto on Thursday, September 5, 2024. The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 7, and 19. The winner of the weekly draw for €30 was John Whyte. Next week's Jackpot for Thursday, September 12, will be €4,400.

GAA Sports Development Lotto Results
Fethard GAA Sports Lotto draw results for Tuesday, September 3, 2024, are as follows: the numbers drawn were: 13, 26, 27 and 28. We had no Jackpot winner and one Match 3 winner who received €150: Sarah Standbridge. One lucky dip winner received €100: William Fogarty. The next draw takes place on Tuesday, September 10, when the jackpot is €30,000. The committee of Fethard GAA Development Lotto would like to thank all our supporters for the continued support.

Join us in the Abymill Theatre on Friday, September 27, at 7.30pm for a special screening of the new film, 'May-17-74' about the Dublin Monaghan Bombings of May 1974. The atrocities occurred 50 years ago; 34 people were killed. The film is directed by Jooe Lee and produced by Fergus Dowd with the Justice for the Forgotten Group. Admission is €10 and seats can be booked online.

Ladies Football games at Town Park on Saturday

A big day for ladies football here on Saturday, September 7, at Fethard Town Park starting from 12pm to 2pm, with the Tipperary Ladies Football U14 County semi-finals down for decision, and some other wonderful games in what promises to be a super day of Ladies Gaelic Football, with the following clubs taking part: Clonmel Commercials; Brian Borus; Temlemore; Cappawhite; Rockwell Rover's; Thurles Sarsfields; and Ardfinnan GAA Club. Come along and enjoy the games.

A Musical Extravaganza on Friday October 4

A Musical Extravaganza - An Evening Of Music & Songs featuring: Irish Tenor - Ronan Tynan; The Strappe Family; Joe Roche; Patrice Davern; Fethard Secondary School Choir; Paul Hayes; and Fethard Choral Group will take place on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 7.30pm in Holy Trinity Parish Church Fethard. Tickets €25 available at O'Sullivan's Pharmacy, Fethard & District Day Care Centre. and online at www.gr8events.com
