Amy Sweeney asks for your support!
Amy Sweeney (daughter of Pamela and Liam Sweeney, Fethard) is on a mission to help a family escape Gaza safely. Amy is sleeping out on Thursday night, outside the US Consulate in Krakow, where she lives, and has organised a fundraiser where 100 percent of the money raised will go directly to Rahma, to get her and her two young daughters evacuated as soon as possible. To Donate on the secure GoFunMe page please CLICK HERE Every Euro will help get this family out of Gaza, the situation is getting worse daily so this family won't have time on their side.
Amy explains: "Like many others, I have spent many months feeling utterly useless in this situation. I would love to help everyone, but I’ve come to the realisation it is not possible. Having been introduced to Rahma and her family some weeks ago, I have promised her and her family I will do everything in my power to help them get to safety. On Thursday, April 4th, I am asking YOU to sleep out, in solidarity with the people of Gaza! I will be putting myself outside the US Consulate in Krakow, Poland - to show that we do NOT agree with their complicity in genocide and we demand a permanent ceasefire! Find your people, and making this movement happen in your town too! Please support us by sleeping out on Thursday April 4th! We will be camping outside the US Consulate. Let's make this happen in your city too!"

Social Dancing at Fethard Ballroom on Easter Sunday Social Dancing at Fethard Ballroom on Easter Sunday, April 31, 2024.
Fethard Ballroom is still the ‘Place to Be’ on Sunday nights, especially if you enjoy dancing in one of Ireland’s most spacious dance floors in the company of a good friendly group dancers that welcome newcomers, young and old, experienced or learners. Only the best social dancing bands are chosen to play every Sunday night, with dancing from 8.30pm to 11.30pm. Admission is only €10 which also includes refreshments served.
Fethard Ballroom has a wonderful reputation of retaining its title as one of the original ‘Ballroom of Romance’ going back to the 1960s when a group of local business people – collectively known as ‘Fethard Enterprises’ – converted the old cinema and reopened it as the Capitol Ballroom dance hall in 1967. The late maestro himself, Mick Delahunty, and his Orchestra, provided music for the Grand Opening Night.
Wexford businessman, Danny Doyle of Adamstown, County Wexford, purchased and reopened the ballroom as ‘The Country Club’ on Sunday, May 20, 1973, ensuring top quality showbands such as Brendan Bowyer & The Royal Showband, Dickie Rock & The Miami, Joe Dolan & The Drifters, and many other international acts would grace the stage of the Ballroom. Many of today's dancers recall meeting their life partners in the same hall. The ballroom reverted to Fethard community ownership when it was purchased in October 1992, and ever since, is being run and maintained successfully by a local and vibrant voluntary community committee.
