Amy Sweeney asks for your support!
Amy Sweeney (daughter of Pamela and Liam Sweeney, Fethard) is on a mission to help a family escape Gaza safely. Amy is sleeping out on Thursday night, outside the US Consulate in Krakow, where she lives, and has organised a fundraiser where 100 percent of the money raised will go directly to Rahma, to get her and her two young daughters evacuated as soon as possible. To Donate on the secure GoFunMe page please CLICK HERE Every Euro will help get this family out of Gaza, the situation is getting worse daily so this family won't have time on their side.
Amy explains: "Like many others, I have spent many months feeling utterly useless in this situation. I would love to help everyone, but I’ve come to the realisation it is not possible. Having been introduced to Rahma and her family some weeks ago, I have promised her and her family I will do everything in my power to help them get to safety. On Thursday, April 4th, I am asking YOU to sleep out, in solidarity with the people of Gaza! I will be putting myself outside the US Consulate in Krakow, Poland - to show that we do NOT agree with their complicity in genocide and we demand a permanent ceasefire! Find your people, and making this movement happen in your town too! Please support us by sleeping out on Thursday April 4th! We will be camping outside the US Consulate. Let's make this happen in your city too!"

Fethard AC’s McNamara, Rice & Earley take gold, sliver & bronze Fethard AC athletes Emmet McNamara (left) and Louis Rice (right)
What a fantastic two weeks it has been for Fethard Athletic Club, last weekend we had Louis Rice take the coveted Tipperary Novice Road race title and seven days later his club mate and training buddy, Emmet McNamara, takes the Tipperary County Intermediate title in fine style with Louis in the silver medal position.
The men’s 8k race set off as another heavy shower of rain was pushing in. As the runners left the town the race was led by two Fethard AC athletes, Louis Rice and Emmet McNamara, with Barry Hartnett of Dundrum AC paying close attention to both. Louis and Emmet continued to dictate the pace, running shoulder to shoulder, and eventually found themselves in front alone, bounding along and competing for the top prizes. As they began to reach the turn back into the town, Emmet managed to get an advantage as he sprinted for the finish line taking gold in 27.06 with Louis just 6 seconds behind in 27.12, taking the silver medal.
Fethard Athletic Club members L to R: Louis Rice, John Hurley, Fintan Rice, Jack Spillane, M.J. Croke, Emmet McNamara and Joseph Morgan.
As we looked back through the course, we waited with anticipation for the next Fethard AC singlet. Our next man home was our club stalwart Fintan Rice running a terrific race in 30.27. Then Joseph Morgan made up our scoring team with another fantastic run in 31:58. These four combined to secure the County Intermediate Team Silver Medal and ensure another historic day for the Fethard AC Club.
We also had great performances from Jack Spillane who came home a time of 32.17 and John Hurley who finished 38.43. M.J. Croke wisely pulled up with a calf injury and we wish him the best of luck in his recovery.
The Women's 4k race started with a 1k uphill section from the village square where the finish line was set up. Our team of Laura Earley, Carol Molloy, and Marie Carroll set off amongst an experienced group of intermediate runners. We were hopeful that Laura Earley could replicate her performance in last week’s County Novice when she took the bronze medal. As with last week, Laura was making another championship debut.
Fethard Athletic Cub's ladies team L to R: Marie Carroll, Laura Earley, and Carol Molloy.
Laura set off with the intention of setting a steady pace positioning herself amongst the leaders from the start. True to form Laura ensured it was another historic day for our club as she came home in 3rd place in 15.24. A fantastic debut season for Laura in Fethard AC. Laura was part of a team that included Carol Molloy who was our 2nd lady home in 17.46 with Marie Carroll in 18.29. Both these ladies are making huge gains with every race and we congratulate our ladies team for a fantastic road season, to date. This is another historic day for Fethard A.C and that’s a narrative I will never tire of using in my reports as all our hard-working members, families and committee are truly committed to ensuring our small club means business.
Our fellow club member and County Board Chairman, Owen Fanning, acknowledged what a proud day it was for Fethard A.C. Owen thanked all the various club members and many stewards for their amazing support on the day. Thank you also to our friends at Mooreabbey Milers A.C. for the refreshments and presentations held after the race. – Susan Laste Fethard A.C. P.R.O.
