Killusty Pupils ‘Walk for Water’

Pictured above are pupils from Killusty National School on the occasion of their 'Walk for Water' event as part of their application for their Greenschools Water Flag.
Pupils from Killusty National School organised a ‘Walk for Water’ event to raise awareness of the value of water in all our lives and the plight of people who have to walk miles on a daily basis to carry home heavy amounts of water in many places around the world.
Trocaire’s current Lenten campaign which focuses on these problems in Malawi, Africa, was very beneficial to their research. The pupils in Killusty recognise the importance of using water wisely, reducing waste and learning about water conservation. The event was part of their application for the Greenschools Water flag. Greenschools is Ireland’s leading environmental management and award programme, working with primary and secondary schools across the country. The programme is operated and coordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce.

This photo of horse-drawn funeral to a graveyard was acquired and copied in 1986 with no further information or date. Maybe someone would have further information as it appears to have been a notable funeral with the coffin draped with the Irish flag.

This photo could possibly be of a combined Fethard and Cloneen football team? Another photograph of the combination team was taken in 1951, when they were beaten 1-5 to 1-4 by Ballingarry in the South Final played at Killenaule. That team mentions the following players: Jim Mullins, Joe Ahearne, John O'Riordan, Charlie Lawless (Cloneen), Timmy O'Riordan, Philly St. John (C), Mick Byrne, Paddy Meagher (C), Teddy Keane (C). Michael McGrath (C), Mick Ryan (C), Mick Fogarty, Jimmy McCarthy, Cly Mullins, Paddy Dalton, M. McCarthy, Rody Holohan (C) and Billy Grant (C).
