Christmas Lights revival for 2024
At a recent Fethard & Killusty Community Council meeting, the subject of the ‘missing’ seasonal lights in Fethard over last Christmas was brought up for discussion. Up to last Christmas the Community Council always enjoyed supporting the ‘Seasonal Street-Lighting Committee’, who annually organised funding, in cooperation with the Fethard Business & Tourism Group, to help finance the annual Christmas lights in Fethard.
Pre-Covid (before 2020), the Community Council with the proceeds from their Community Lotto (suspended during Covid), was able to cover any shortfall of money needed for the erection and maintenance of seasonal street lighting. Unfortunately, post-Covid, the Community Council’s reserves, with no lotto income, were exhausted due to covering the outstanding Christmas lighting bill for 2022, which exceeded €13,000.
From public response the Community Council are now recommending that a separate Christmas Lighting committee be reformed to evaluate the situation and introduce a more efficient and cost-effective seasonal lighting system for the town.
A public meeting will be organised soon to discuss same. If you are interested in getting involved, please leave your phone number and contact details to Shirley at the Community Office in Barrack Street Tel (052) 6131000, and we will update you on the next meeting to take place.

This photo of horse-drawn funeral to a graveyard was acquired and copied in 1986 with no further information or date. Maybe someone would have further information as it appears to have been a notable funeral with the coffin draped with the Irish flag.

Couple, may be collected to the Coen family ?

This photo could possibly be of a combined Fethard and Cloneen football team. Another photograph of the combination team was taken in 1951, when they were beaten 1-5 to 1-4 by Ballingarry in the South Final played at Killenaule. That team mentions the following players: Jim Mullins, Joe Ahearne, John O'Riordan, Charlie Lawless (Cloneen), Timmy O'Riordan, Philly St. John (C), Mick Byrne, Paddy Meagher (C), Teddy Keane (C). Michael McGrath (C), Mick Ryan (C), Mick Fogarty, Jimmy McCarthy, Cly Mullins, Paddy Dalton, M. McCarthy, Rody Holohan (C) and Billy Grant (C).
