A Service for Life, in solidarity with anybody who has been affected in any way by suicide, took place in the Augustinian Abbey on Sunday, February 26. This was a genuine community effort organised locally, with input from C-Saw (Clonmel Suicide Awareness Workers).
The gathering was addressed by Joe Leahy, a key member of C-Saw, who offered interesting and practical information about the group and their work in the field of suicide from their base at 24 William Street, Clonmel, E91 NX34. A notable feature of the gathering was its youthfulness, a rare sight in churches these days. The young folks (mainly local students) lead the gathering in readings and reflections as well as presenting a very creative variety of symbolic gifts. It was a display which demonstrated that liturgy can be compatible with modern culture.
The local Abbey choir, conducted by Ann Barry, performed magnificently and all present were touched by the quality of the singing and by the appropriate songs which were chosen for the occasion.
C-Saw can be contacted at any time on Tel: 052 6172477. All are welcome to call in to their free coffee mornings open every Monday and Wednesday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Call for a chat, a cuppa, some space or good company, and if you would like to talk to one of their volunteers in private . . . just ask and you will be brought upstairs for some privacy.
