THE LITTER PROBLEM
We have written many times previously in this column on the litter problem on the streets of Fethard. Following the students’ lunch break on Friday last, the amount of litter left on the windowsill and in the doorway of two adjoining private houses in Main Street was simply appalling. Fast food cartons, soft drink cans and plastic bottles, bags and wrappers were abandoned in abundance. The litter was left within feet, rather than yards, of two public litterbins. Lack of civic spirit is sadly obvious here. Credit is due to the members of the public who cleaned up the mess. This behaviour is just not tolerable and must be stopped.

Can anyone shed any light on where I can find any burial records for Red City, I want to know the whereabouts of my Grandmother's Catherine McGrath (nee Slattery) and Uncle's Francis (Frankie) McGrath’s graves. The Church point us to the County Council, the Council point us to the Church or local people, any help would be appreciated.

Hello to all, its been a long time since I’ve been in Fethard. If by any chance anyone could help me, I’m trying to contact Eddie Sheehan jnr. Ex- ‘Toss the Feathers’, or his dad. It would be nice to hear from them too.

Hi there, I’m from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, and interested in finding info about a Margaret Dowling who married Michael Quinn (Fethard Ireland) circa 1817 1819. Are there any Dowlings out there? They immigrated to Canada in 1820 - 1822. My great-grandfather (James -born Feb.19,1819) was their son. I would appreciate any info if anyone has some on the Dowlings. James was born in Fethard. Thank You very much.

Can you let me know if there is a Festival in Fethard at the October Weekend. If there is, can you give me some details about it. There are 5/6 of us from the Isle of Man interested in coming over. We were supposed to play gigs in Galway but due to a death we had to cancel. We have decided to come anyhow seeing as we already have plane tickets and are looking for somewhere with a Festival. Would there be somewhere there we could get B&B at this stage? I look forward to hearing form you!

I’ve sent you some pictures including one of Maria Crean, born in Fethard, on Nov. 28, 1869 and baptized in the church of Fethard. Her godparents were Pat Shea and Mary Ann Gleason. Her parents were John Crean and Lizzy Hackett. Maria married James Quirk of Fethard and they had three sons. They moved to New York and she passed away in 1948.
If you need anymore information please let me know. I have a few more pictures I would like to send. If you can't use them, that's okay. I’ve always read on the Fethard site where you are looking for old pictures and I'm not sure if you meant this type.
Maria Crean Quirk is my husbands half grand aunt. Maria's father died and her mother remarried a Michael Connolly / Connelly, (also from Fethard), and had 3 more children, one being my husbands great grandmother. Your Fethard site is out of this world and much enjoyed by all.
