FETHARD NOTES ARCHIVE

Saturday 25th April 1998

BBC TELEVISION SERVICE BACK SOON
John O'Loughlin, General Manager, Suir Nore Relays Limited,Clonmel, has stated that he expects to be broadcasting their multi-channel television services to the Fethard area no later than May 1st, 1998.
He states: “I wish to advise you that we have received Planning Approval for the development of a beambender at Tinakelly, Fethard. This site was originally selected in early August 1997 at which time an application for planning permission was made to Tipperary S.R. County Council. This application was approved on 30th October, 1997, however an objection was lodged, thus requiring a decision from An Bord Pleanala. This created a further delay of seven months. The decision to grant permission by An Bord Pleanala was received on 3rd April, 1998. I am happy to say we are now making progress with the development of this site. Suir Nore Relays will let it be known as soon as a signal is available from this site. I would expect this to be no later than 1st May, 1998, all developments going according to plan”.

FETHARD STUDENTS ON TV
Eight students from Fethard Patrician Presentation Secondary School travelled to the RTE Studios in Dublin on Monday, 27th April, to take part in 'Job Talk'. GAA DINNER DANCE
Over 200 patrons attended the Fethard GAA Dinner Dance in Kearney’s Castle Hotel, Cashel, on Saturday night April 25th. The evening ran a little behind time with dinner being served at 10.30pm instead of the scheduled 9.15pm. Immediately after dinner Joe Fogarty was the very popular recipient on the 'Personality of the Past Award' which was presented by club chairman, Sean Moloney. Following the presentation of medals to the players, the crowd prepared to enjoy the rest of the evenings entertainment only to be disturbed by the Garda who closed the bar at 12.30. A good night, a bit crowded and a little 'dry' is the general consensus.
