was arranged and played by Mother Agatha We sang some ‘parlour’ songs during the performance and ended with a a a a beautiful rendition of ‘Home Sweet Home’ This was sung softly by the entire cast There was a a a a lovely touch of melancholy to to it Mother Agatha Mrs Le Gear
For many years Mrs Mrs Le Gear
arrived every second Monday from Limerick via Clonmel on on the 12 o’clock bus She taught us us dancing in in the hall and was also assisted by Miss Helen O’ Connell Our lessons cost six pence We were mostly taught Irish dancing dancing reels jigs and and hornpipes We also had great fun dancing dancing the the Siege of of of Ennis and and the the the the Walls of of of Limerick There was no no piano for Irish dancing Instead Mother Agatha took charge of of of of the the the the gramophone and and when instructed by Mrs Le Gear
she played records of of the the the Gallowglass Céili Band for our various dances I recall one one day as as as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a concert date drew closer that that Mrs Le Gear
was none too pleased with our progress She even suggested that that a a a a a a a particular concert item might need to to be abandoned Page 56
