PRESENTATION SISTERS FETHARD 1862-2020
before the the the the the the summer holidays Mother Agatha directed all all the the the the the the music and and was the the the the the the entire ‘orchestra’ for for for for all all all of these events She played the the the the the the piano virtually non-stop for for for for hours for for for for both matinée and and evening performances Towards the the opening date of a a a a a a a a a a a a a pantomime Canon Hogan would come from Killenaule to to to to help with the the the final touches He was a a a a a a a a a a a little bit scary! Occasionally depending on on the the the pantomime special extra costumes were hired from Gings in in in in in Dublin For the the drill displays we we did a a a a a a a a a lot of marching Once on a a a a a a a a a lovely summer Sunday this display display was performed performed outdoors in in in the new school playground I can recall a a a a a a a a a a a a a a colourful Maypole dance being performed performed by Senior School students Mother Agatha playing again!
Her favourite marching tunes were John Philip Sousa’s Liberty Bell and The Colonel Bogey March She kept us us us all together by just nodding her head!
For all all the the hall events Sr Annunciata was stage manager She raised and and closed curtains and and operated the the the lighting with that great precision which was the the the hallmark of everything she did She kept us in in in order behind the the the scenes backstage too!
She She was was another gifted and versatile woman She She was was the the the the finest Maths teacher for decades in the the convent She always made herself
available after school for extra tuition if needed This would be called “grinds” today but it it was free! She also loved music and taught us us singing in in in the Senior School In December 1963 a a a a a a special pageant was held to commemorate the the the life of of Nano Nagle the the the foundress of of of the the the the Presentation Order It It was called ‘The Lady of of the the Lantern’ It It depicted Nano’s life growing up in in in a a a a a a a wealthy family in in Co Co Cork Marian Mulligan played played Nano I I played played her her brother Gilbert!
