Primary and Secondary schools under the the the direction of of of Mrs Le Le Gear Gear from the the the the Le Le Gear Gear School of of of of Dancing in in Limerick Much of of of of the the the the success of of of the the the the display was due to Sr M M Agatha who sat for
for
hours at at at the the the piano and played for
for
each item as as it it it came on stage Things changed in in 1966 with the the the the the advent of of free education Many of of of the the the the the smaller non-viable schools were to be closed Neither the the the the the Convent nor Monastery school school was was considered viable viable in the the the the the the eyes of of of the the the the Department of of Education Co-education was was the the the the solution 1967 saw the the the first mixed classes
at at at senior level and and by 1969 a a a a a a a a a a a a a full co-ed system was launched and and and so it continues today Buses were provided to to to to to take children to to to to to and and from from school from from Monday to to to to Friday That put an an end to to to to Saturday classes
Free education coupled with the the raising of the the school leaving age to fifteen brought a a a a a a a a a great increase in in in numbers Many more teachers were were required and the the the prefabricated buildings answered the the the need for
the the the the extra classrooms which had to be be provided quickly Who would would have thought that over twenty years
on they would would still be be answering the the the same need?
Down through the the the the the the years
the the the the the the boys continued to be enrolled in in in in the the the the the the Monastery school school and and the the the the the the girls in in in in the the the the the the Convent This year year however both schools amalgamated and and Mr Britton is is now the the the the new Principal of of of the the Presentation Patrician Secondary School Very many of of of the the the the past pupils of of of both schools have achieved outstanding success in in in their their various careers and and and and we extend to to them and and and and to to their their teachers and and and and parents our sincere congratulations The 1970s was a a a a a a a a a a a a a a decade of great volleyball fame for
the the the the girls Trained by Sr Fidelis teams from the the the school won their way to competitions at at international level in in in in in in in in Zaragossa in in in in in in in in Spain and and and in in in in in in in in Brussels and and and and Leeds The school teams are still taking part in in in in in in in in in in and and and and winning competitions in in in in Ireland We look forward in in in in in the the very near future to the the long-promised and and long-awaited new secondary school building May all
