Record Skate Catch
John Costigan
Skipper Mary Gavin Hughes and angler John Costigan from Moyglass photographed with his fantastic 200lbs Clew Bay skate. This catch on Fathers Day was John's dream come true after a five year wait.

John Costigan, from Moyglass, was rewarded with the fish of a life-time recently when he caught a 200 lbs. Skate from Clew Bay. John is a regular visitor to the Clew Bay area and was angling aboard Mary Gavin-Hughes’ boat, Shamrock 1, when he hooked the fish. The skate had previously been tagged under the Marine sport fish program and was quickly released after some photographs.

Hunting News
Tipperary Foxhounds held their Annual Puppy Show at The Kennels, Tullamaine, on Saturday July 12th. Huntsman, Derry Donegan, and 1st Whip, Paul Brady, had what must have been a record young entry of 25 couple before a very large crowd and judges, Mr. Rupert Macauley Esq. and Mr. Ian Starsmore. All present were very impressed by the quality of the 101/2 couple of Dog hounds and 141/2 couple of bitches on display. Many of those present were of the opinion that if those hounds hunt half as well as they look hunting prospects look very bright for the 2008 – 09 season, the start of which is just around the corner. After much, very careful, consideration the following were decided winners.

Dog Hound:
1st: Station, walked by Ms. Jane Farrell; 2nd: Button, walked by Mr. Willie Croke and 3rd: Baritone, walked by Mr. Ned Tierney.
Bitches: 1st: Lavender, walked by Mr. Padraig Kennedy; 2nd: Ravish, walked by Mr. Aiden Fogarty and 3rd: Lawful, walked by Mr. Michael Murphy.
Champion: Lavender.
Best Working Hound: Pansy, walked by Mr. John Thompson.

Mr. Frank Quirke, Chairman, Tipperary Foxhounds thanked sincerely all landowners over whose lands the Tipps hunt, and all puppy walkers, without whose continued support hunting could not continue. He paid special tribute to Derry and Paul on the quality of all hounds and the pristine condition of Kennels and surrounds which were even better than last season. The evening concluded with a beautiful Puppy Show Tea served in the Marquee by the ladies committee. The wonderful exhibition of excellent sporting scenes painted by local artist and Tipperary Hunt member, Mr. Liam Clancy, were much admired.
