Trading Fair with Fairtrade
Nano Nagle National School, Fethard, hosted its second Fairtrade sale on Tuesday 1st December. Along with the wide variety of Fairtrade products offered for sale by the pupils, the Good Shepherd Sisters from Waterford provided an array of goods produced by women in need from Thailand and other eastern countries. Once again people from the locality were very generous in their response. A large crowd attended and purchases totalled almost €2,000 on the night. Thanks very much to all those who helped and supported the event.

Hunting News
The past week has been a week of mixed fortunes for the Tipperary Foxhounds. Hounds have been hunting well being kept quiet busy each day out without having any great runs of widespread points or long duration. The very heavy going has also limited some areas obliging Derry and Sam to draw some coverts on foot. From Dualla on Monday they found in Looby’s and ran to McCann’s. A fox found in O’Keeffe’s they quickly caught on top before moving on to Boscabe Cross covert which was blank. Finding on a hedge on the way on to draw Georgesland they ran to the big plantation. From here they ran by the Cashel Harriers Kennels across the road to Mayfield where they lost him. They finished the day with a U-circle around Mayfield – Meldrum. Following a run from Mr. Con Ryan’s through Doherty’s to Kilbreedy from the Ballinahinch meet on Thursday hounds caught on top a fox from Ms. Maura Hands. They also caught another on top following a run from Peter Knowles’. From Patrick Kelly’s they hunted to Ballygriffin Bridge, ran a good circle back by Ballinahinch Graveyard, down to the Castle, back to Ballygriffin and to ground. They finished a good day’s hunting from Thompson’s Orchard to Fahy’s and to ground in Michael Carew’s and hunting from John Thompson’sto Lasna Wood and back to ground at Audrey Thompsons.

With the White Heathers
Poor scent made hunting difficult for the Ballyluskey White Heather Harriers from Ballyluskey on Sunday. Hounds did their utmost to hold the line but slow hunting was the order of the day. They hunted from Phelan’s through Magoury to the road at Lismoynan. Drawing the plantation on the other side of the Drangan-Ballyluskey road they ran a light right-handed circle back to the covert where they lost him. From the small covert at Lar Noonan’s they hunted to Hugh O’Donnell’s where he got to ground. The Ballyluskey Harriers Christmas Hunting Card is as follows: Sunday 13th December, Rocklow; Sunday 20th December, Peppardstown House; St. Stephen’s Day, Drangan; 3rd January, Loughcopple and 10th January, Clonacody. All meets at 11am.

Christmas Lights
It is great to see, once again this year, the streets of Fethard adorned with Christmas Lights which add so much to the festive season in the town. The cost of Christmas Lighting for 2009 is €1750. In the past, businesses in the town were requested to subscribe to cover the costs incurred. However, this year, in an effort to spread the cost to the wider community, a new funding approach is being taken. A Church Gate Collection will be held on the weekend of Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th December.

Beginners Computer Classes
Fethard & Killusty Community Council, in conjunction with South Tipperary VEC, intend to organise Beginners Computer Classes to commence early in the new year. It is proposed that a number of courses, such as Introduction to Computers; Using the Internet & E-mail and Basic Typing, will be held, depending on interest. These courses will be four to six weeks duration and will be held in the Internet Café at Fethard Youth Centre. If you are interested in undertaking any of these courses please contact Marion at Fethard Youth Centre (Phone: 6132611) from 10am to 4.30pm, Monday and Tuesday, and from 10am to 1pm on Wednesday, or the Community Office (Phone: 6131000), Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Fashion Night in McCarthy’s
This Saturday is the X Factor fashion night in McCarthy’s. The night will be co hosted by Noelle Leahy, Helen Kealy and Tara O’Donnell. In keeping with the recessionary times, the girls are selling fashion accessories and natural beauty products, including jewellery, handbags, scarves, skincare products and personal care items. The X Factor will be on the big screen in the bar and the music will continue afterwards with Eric Wilson.
So come along and glam up your Christmas, or if you’re a male looking for the ideal Christmas present for the woman in your life, come and ask Tara, Noelle, Helen or any of the many women on the night to help you out!

Jack shines in Wexford
All roads led to Wexford last Saturday 5th December, in what was a brilliant tournament held in Enniscorthy Boxing Club. The best boxers from Tipperary took on the best boxers from Wexford with the men from Tipperary coming out on top.
Most of the Tipperary team came from Clonmel Boxing Club, where again our very own Jack Connolly was in outstanding form. Jack, for the first time, was taken out of his comfort zone and fought against Niall Hunt, an Irish champion at 57kgs, which is almost 4kgs outside Jack’s boxing weight, but the weight difference did not matter as Jack produced a brilliant performance to win the contest by a unanimous decision.
On the day, Jack was also presented with a best ‘boxer of the tournament’ award which he won at a contest in Ballagh, Co. Wexford, some weeks ago.
What a fantastic end to a brilliant year for this very talented young boxer where hard work and dedication gets results, and Jack is living proof of that.
